Chapter 327: A Taste of Fate’s Backlash

He stopped abruptly at the door, his dark, heavy gaze locking precisely onto the back of the person in front of him.

That profound gaze was so intense it could almost melt a person.

When Vincent Grant stopped, the people behind him stopped as well.

Confused, they all looked over.

All they saw was the back of a woman.

The group exchanged quiet glances, guessing who the woman might be.

Sophia Shaw had recently changed her hairstyle.

Her chic bob fell to her shoulders, curving slightly inward, making her look young and vivacious.

The air of a wife and mother around her faded, replaced by that of a college student.

So much so that no one in the group recognized her.

Vincent Grant didn’t linger and walked away.

Sophia Shaw chatted with Jaden Rhodes for a while, just as Jacobs arrived in the car to pick her up.

Sophia Shaw said goodbye to Jaden Rhodes and got in the car.

Jacobs skillfully pulled the car into a lane and spoke up, "Boss, have you heard?"

"What is it?" Sophia Shaw saw Jacobs hesitating and said, "Just say what’s on your mind."

Only then did Jacobs say, "I just heard from someone at the Grant Group that Vincent Grant is dating again. And it’s a college student."

Sophia Shaw froze for a moment.

Jacobs pursed his lips in displeasure. "So a man’s so-called deep affection has such a short shelf life. He acted like he could never forget you. It’s only been a few months since the divorce, and he’s already starting a new life."

Sophia Shaw was also quite surprised that Vincent Grant would find a girlfriend.

In her memory, he had always been a deeply affectionate man. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been hung up on Joanna Sherman for six years.

But they were already divorced. Whatever Vincent Grant did had nothing to do with her.

Sophia Shaw said coolly, "That’s good."

Jacobs snorted.

"Aren’t scumbags supposed to die alone, living out their days in regret?"

Novels are all lies!

"But Boss, your new hairstyle is gorgeous. At the venue just now, so many people were looking at you. Some who didn’t know you even asked me if you were a college student."

Jacobs had been sitting right next to Sophia Shaw.

Sophia Shaw touched her hair.

She had gone to see Seraphina Vaughn a few days ago, who had coaxed her into getting it done.

Thinking of Seraphina Vaughn, Sophia Shaw couldn’t help but think of her somewhat mysterious master, who was almost always alone.

The woman never showed anything explicitly, but Sophia just felt that even her walk was tinged with sorrow, her slender back cloaked in loneliness.

She couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for her.

After returning to the company from the press conference, Sophia Shaw was swamped with work again.

By the time she got home, it was almost eight o’clock.

She played with Bun for a while.

At nine o’clock, she coaxed Bun to sleep.

She only came out after Bun had fallen asleep.

Just then, her phone rang.

Seeing the almost-unfamiliar number on the screen, Sophia Shaw stared for a few seconds before answering.

"Faye."

Mindy Jennings’s voice was both familiar and strange.

Ever since Joanna Sherman gained power, Mindy Jennings had intentionally distanced herself from Sophia. If she hadn’t made this call tonight, Sophia would have almost forgotten she had this aunt.

"Aunt, is something wrong?" Sophia Shaw’s voice was polite but slightly distant.

Mindy Jennings replied, "Can you help me find Mira? The girl said she was going out to make a fortune today, but it’s been so long and she hasn’t come back. I can’t reach her by phone either."

Mindy Jennings’s voice sounded genuinely panicked.

"Faye, I really didn’t know what else to do, so I came to you. You have connections. You’ll definitely help me, right?"

Back then, Mindy Jennings had ignored her under pressure from the Shermans, but she had never done anything to harm her either. Sophia Shaw said, "I can ask around for you, but I can’t guarantee any results."

"I knew it! I knew you wouldn’t abandon your own family, Faye," Mindy Jennings said excitedly.

After hanging up, Sophia Shaw contacted Levin Sawyer and asked for his help in the search.

Levin Sawyer agreed.

He didn’t hang up right away. Instead, he said, "Faye, we have definitive results on that incident with the mother and son blocking the plane. It was Joanna Sherman."

Sophia Shaw had long expected this, so she wasn’t surprised.

But she couldn’t help but feel a surge of hatred for Joanna Sherman’s insidious cruelty.

"How do you want to handle her?" Levin Sawyer asked.

With just a word from Sophia Shaw, he could make Joanna Sherman suffer a death by a thousand cuts.

"This is my revenge to take!" Sophia Shaw said resolutely.

’Since Joanna Sherman loves harming others so much, she needs a taste of fate’s backlash.’

"Alright."

「The next day was the weekend.」

Sophia Shaw hadn’t scheduled a day off. She had to go to the company to handle urgent matters.

As she got downstairs, a car happened to pull up.

Cedric Grant jumped out of the car.

He probably hadn’t expected to run into Sophia Shaw at this hour. He hesitated for a moment before quickly walking up and calling out softly, "Mom."

Sophia Shaw knew Cedric Grant often came over to spend time with Bun, and she had always tacitly approved.

She glanced at the time. "It’s Saturday. Don’t you have classes?"

Cedric Grant quickly replied, "I moved my classes to Sunday."

Auntie Archer had told him that his mom had to work every Saturday, and he wanted to take turns with her spending time with his sister.

"Oh, right, Mom, this... is a gift for you." Cedric Grant turned back to the car, brought out a large box, and presented it to her.

He had actually prepared this gift on her birthday.

He hadn’t dared to give it to her, afraid she would refuse it, and even more afraid of bringing up bad memories.

Sophia Shaw’s gaze fell on the box.

It was wrapped meticulously, making it impossible to guess what was inside.

Cedric Grant quickly added, "It’s a building block set I bought with my allowance. I spent three months putting it together. It’s a spaceship."

"I hope Mom can fly her spaceship to Mars soon!"

Sophia Shaw’s heart skipped a beat, and she accepted it almost instinctively.

Cedric Grant deliberately emphasized, "Mom, I didn’t just buy any random blocks. They’re the best ones!"

’Mom deserves the best!’

This was the best gift Cedric Grant had ever given her, not just because it was expensive, but because of the thought he’d put into it.

"Thank you," Sophia Shaw said sincerely. "Let’s carry the spaceship home together."

"Okay!" Cedric Grant beamed and hurried to help.

Once inside, Sophia Shaw took out the model and carefully placed it on the desk in her study.

Seeing Sophia Shaw treat his gift so seriously, Cedric Grant’s eyes reddened again.

He had thought his mom would just casually toss it in a corner.

"Mom..." Calling out to Sophia Shaw softly, tears of regret welled up in Cedric Grant’s eyes again.

Sophia Shaw finished positioning the spaceship, then took a box from a cabinet and handed it to Cedric Grant. "This is a birthday present from Mom."

Sophia Shaw had spent her own birthday in The Vorlan Wastes. She had been busy with experiments at the time and had long forgotten about it.

But she remembered Cedric Grant’s birthday.

It was around this time.

"Mom..." Cedric Grant couldn’t have imagined he would still receive a gift from his mother. The tears he had just managed to hold back started streaming down his face again.

Every act of concern from his mother was a reminder of the foolish things he had done.

On his birthday last year, all he could think about was spending it with Auntie Joanna. When his mother came back to see him, he even resented her for her poor attitude toward his grandpa and the Sherman family’s grandma.

When he made his wish, he mentioned himself and Auntie Joanna, but not a single word about his mom!

"Mom, I was wrong. I was really wrong."

Cedric Grant ran over and hugged Sophia Shaw.

"Mom, I’m not a good kid. I took your kindness for granted."

"You can hit me, or yell at me."

Sophia Shaw gently patted his back. "Cedric, what’s past is past. As long as you can correct your mistakes, you will always be my son."

"Mom!" Cedric Grant hugged her tightly again.

This time, he truly felt that the mother he had lost had come back to him.

Cedric Grant silently swore that he would protect his sister and his mom for the rest of his life, and he would never lose them again.

When Sophia Shaw arrived at her office, Levin Sawyer burst in like a gust of wind.

He tapped his knuckles on her desk. "I’ve got results on that thing you asked me to look into."

She had asked Levin Sawyer to find Mira Quinn’s whereabouts.
