Chapter 420: What the Prince Still Chooses

The First Prince surfaced through the Crowned Avatar and listed everyone he blamed for becoming irrelevant.

"Our father measured me against blood that would not answer," he said from beneath the cracked helm, "and you fled and became more valuable, Didi, while Hajin arrived with stolen divinity and received the awe my work deserved."

Didi remained planted ten paces inside the royal shield while her protected line waited behind her, open without assigning anyone as subject.

Blood continued leaving her palm as the Court tested that refusal. Ferra’s mundane bandage slowed the wound but could not heal it inside the active shield.

Didi carried the cost without presenting pain as proof that her argument deserved acceptance. The refusal had to stand even if nobody praised it.

"The court taught you that rank proved personhood," Didi said, holding True Bearer through four Shards, "and you chose victims who had even less protection and used them to improve your measurement."

The Prince tightened the foundation key in his right hand. Loccy’s carried mass shifted below, sending another fracture along her braced arms.

Ferra called the movement through Masterwork Network and allowed Loccy to redistribute the load before it crushed one Wing.

Vella maintained direct contact with the exposed arm and recorded that the Prince’s choice caused the new injury.

"Release that key," Vella said, "and I will contest Dominion’s ownership of your soul exactly as I contested the child’s birth claim."

"Will Sanctuary call me Protected Bloodline Kin?" the Prince asked, allowing contempt into his voice, "or will your lord shelter the brother who proved your Crown incomplete?"

"Sanctuary is not mine to promise," Didi said, "but my refusal is, and I can open a path out of the divine claim if you stop feeding it."

Hajin watched from outside the shield with Collector’s Grasp inactive. Divine Eye showed the Prince’s mortal soul remaining fused but reachable through one seam around the foundation key.

"A separation path still exists," Aria said inside his thoughts, "but it closes if the Crowned Avatar completes the next incarnation layer."

Hajin shared the finding aloud and said, "There is still time to release the key, and you live for a tribunal if Didi can hold the seam, but nobody promises acquittal."

The King lowered one connected Shard enough to speak clearly. The movement released pressure toward an empty reservoir Eirwen had verified.

He waited for the impact report before continuing, refusing to turn his confession into another casualty through haste.

"I made your blood the measure of every room you entered," the King said through the shared line, "and that failure belongs to me while the laboratories and this choice remain yours."

The Prince looked toward him and said, "You discover honest fatherhood only after another heir surpasses me."

"Too late remains true," the King said, "but it does not make your next act mine."

The Dominion God pressed white-gold law through the helm and said, "Complete the Crown, because unordered voices obstruct assigned worth."

The Prince’s mortal hand remained around the key while he could still release it before the next layer closed.

Divine Eye showed the exact motion required, and opening his fingers would interrupt blood authorization while speaking refusal would give Didi’s Frost a frequency to protect.

Hajin displayed the sequence across Aegis so no one later claimed the escape was symbolic or impossible while Didi extended her frost without crossing the final distance.

"I will take the retaliation," Didi said, "so release the key and speak your own refusal."

For one heartbeat, the Prince’s fingers opened, and the white-gold helm cracked across one cheek.

His breathing returned as a separate mortal rhythm, and Didi extended Frost toward that opening without touching him as the reachable seam proved that her offer could begin before he closed it again.

Loccy felt the foundation mass lighten as the King’s blood shield loosened around one Shard and the reachable soul seam widened beneath Divine Eye.

Then the Prince saw Hajin waiting behind Didi’s protected line. Hajin lowered both hands and opened no Ring, removing immediate threat from the decision.

Ferra kept the pin sheathed, Juna held her distant position, and the King froze every free Shard while nobody forced the refusal to fail.

"Even my rescue becomes another demonstration of his power," the Prince said, closing his hand again, "so I refuse."

He tightened the city discharge through every remaining royal circuit while the King caught the first wave across twelve Shards and outer district wards shook beneath the rest.

Eirwen’s captains reported three collapsed civic wards with no immediate deaths, but ordinary braces failed at the eastern reservoir.

Two workers who had remained after the earlier release were injured. Vella could not treat them remotely, so local healers assumed care under chosen licenses.

The city paid a visible cost for the Prince’s renewed command. Didi felt the pressure enter her frost line and kept her feet planted.

"You are hurting people who never measured you," she said.

"They will receive places after the Crown completes," the Prince replied, "but order makes their fear useful."

He turned the foundation key while Hajin tracked the change through Divine Eye and the separation seam around the mortal soul narrowed.

Dominion authority entered the next incarnation layer by the Prince’s explicit command while the Ordered Court boundary strengthened around the hidden core.

Collector’s Grasp remained outside the shield, but Divine Eye watched the final human frequency become enclosed rather than erased.

The Prince stayed present inside the fused structure and retained responsibility for instructions his own voice continued to issue.

He told the God, "Complete the Crown," and his own voice spoke the order while Didi withdrew the rescue offer but kept her protected line open for the battle.

"Record the refusal," Didi said, looking toward Aria’s projection, "and record that he understood survival required surrendering the key but chose the city discharge instead."

"Recorded," Aria said through Hajin’s hearing.

The Prince’s fingers tightened around the key while white-gold pressure filled the seam Didi had been holding open.

The King caught one discharge with a damaged Shard, but the impact folded an empty reservoir wall inward behind him.

Didi watched the rescue seam narrow to a thread and said, "You understand the door is closing, yet you are still choosing the lock."

He answered by turning the foundation key another fraction. The God entered the next layer without needing to steal his hand.

Didi withdrew the offer from the space between them and kept her frost pointed toward the city instead of toward his chest.

Breaker’s Lever waited in inventory for his right hand while Collector’s Grasp required his bare left.

Ferra stood beyond the protected line with the finite pin at her waist.

Juna held Daybreak Path above the sky route, and Loccy carried the foundation beneath them. Didi looked at her brother once more before facing the shield.

"You were not irrelevant," Didi said, holding the tenth pace, "but you became responsible."

Ferra placed the finite pin at the edge of Didi’s line. Hajin confirmed that the Chain was stored, his left hand was bare, and Breaker’s Lever was ready.

Juna reported the sky route still open while Loccy held the central foundation without release and the Court boundary completed around the Crowned Avatar.

The remaining seam vanished when his final command entered the key, and Aria’s record changed from reachable to fused.

Vella touched Hajin’s shoulder, then withdrew before the Court could trace her healing route through his body.

The King caught another wave across his remaining Shards while Didi turned her frost toward the first outer node.

Hajin stored the Legendary Chain and checked his bare left hand. Ferra lifted the finite pin, and Juna tightened Daybreak Path above the throne.

"Then we break the law you finished writing," Didi said, stepping toward the next lock.
