Seraphina’s POV
Vivian’s composure finally shattered before my eyes. The tears she had been holding back came flooding out as she collapsed back into her chair.
"I believed I was protecting our pack," she whispered through her sobs, her hands covering her face in shame. "Jasper made promises that we would never face hardship again if we allied with him. I convinced myself you lacked the strength to lead alongside my son."
Her reasoning struck something deep within me. As much as her betrayal had wounded us all, I recognized the desperate love of a mother trying to shield her child. That understanding didn’t excuse her actions, but it helped me grasp the fear that had driven her choices.
I moved closer and dropped to my knees beside her chair. My hands gently covered her trembling ones.
"Vivian, look at me," I said with quiet authority.
Her tear-filled eyes met mine, red and swollen with grief.
"I am your Luna," I declared firmly. "And I will remain your Luna. Theo and Elena will grow into the most powerful leaders this world has ever witnessed under my guidance. They will learn about their grandmother. They will know you live here in this cottage."
Her breath caught in her throat. "You would truly allow them to know me?"
I studied her broken expression carefully. "Being part of a pack means understanding what loyalty truly costs, Vivian. Real loyalty isn’t about grabbing power. It’s about standing together when everything falls apart."
Her fingers tightened around mine desperately. "Seraphina, forgive me. I was blind with fear. You possess more Luna strength than I ever managed to find."
"I’m aware of that," I replied without hesitation.
Rising to my feet, I turned toward Julian. Pride radiated from his expression as he watched me handle his mother. He stepped forward and placed his hand protectively on my shoulder.
"We’re done here," Julian announced to Vivian, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Warriors will visit weekly to check your welfare. If you require anything, speak with them directly. But you are forbidden from approaching the pack territory."
I chose not to interfere in their fractured relationship. Eventually, Julian would find his way to forgiving his mother, but that healing had to come from his own heart, not from my pressure.
"I accept your terms," Vivian said quietly. Her gaze found mine one final time. "Thank you for showing mercy, Seraphina. I don’t deserve it."
The walk back through the forest path toward the Fang House felt different somehow. The crushing weight I had been carrying on my shoulders seemed to dissolve with each step. Hatred had never taken root in my heart toward Vivian, and I was grateful for that. Carrying hatred around was like dragging chains everywhere you went.
"You managed that situation perfectly," Julian said, pulling me against his chest right there on the woodland trail.
"I’m simply a woman who craves peace in her life," I replied, tilting my face up toward his.
"Well, this peaceful version of you is incredibly attractive," he teased, his eyebrows dancing mischievously.
Laughter bubbled up from my chest as I playfully smacked his arm. "Behave yourself! We have responsibilities waiting. The Nebula Fang Elders will arrive for the lunch meeting, and Roxanne is expecting us to discuss wedding flower arrangements."
Roxanne’s upcoming marriage to Caleb filled me with genuine happiness. After everything they had endured, seeing them choose to make their bond official brought warmth to my heart. Roxanne had traveled such a difficult road, especially while wrestling with guilt over her past mistakes. She couldn’t undo the damage she had caused, but watching her commitment to becoming a better person earned my respect.
"Roxanne and flower discussions," Julian groaned dramatically. "That conversation will consume the entire afternoon."
"Most likely," I agreed with a grin. "But happiness looks beautiful on her, Julian. What she and Caleb have built together is nothing short of miraculous."
His expression grew more serious. "It really is remarkable. I’m grateful my closest friend finally discovered his true mate. Even if she happens to be your troublesome sister."
"Excuse me!" I protested through my laughter. "She’s evolved into a reformed troublemaker now."
This feeling surrounding us was exactly how life should always unfold. I refused to let resentment poison the joy we had fought so hard to achieve. The forest around us seemed to agree, with sunlight filtering through the leaves above and birds singing their approval of our peace. Every step toward home felt like another step away from the darkness that had once threatened to consume everything we held dear.
The Fang House came into view through the trees, its familiar walls promising safety and belonging. Inside those walls, our children waited for us, along with the daily challenges and joys of leadership. But for this moment, walking hand in hand with Julian through our territory, I allowed myself to simply breathe and appreciate how far we had all traveled from those dark days of betrayal and uncertainty.
