Seraphina’s POV
I moved through the expansive dining room of our house, my fingers trembling slightly as I repositioned the white roses at the center of the mahogany table. Hours of preparation had gone into this moment, and my heart hammered against my ribs with nervous energy.
This dinner had to be flawless. No detail could be overlooked, no moment could fall short of what I had dreamed. Tonight, I wanted to gather everyone who had transformed my world, who had carved their names into the story of my life. They would sit together, share laughter, and breathe as one family.
"You’re obsessing over those forks again, Seraphina."
Strong arms circled my waist from behind, pulling me against a solid chest that radiated warmth. I melted into Julian’s embrace, my eyes drifting closed as his scent enveloped me. He carried the essence of wilderness after rain, pure and grounding, like coming home after being lost in a storm.
"I need everything to be perfect, Julian," I breathed, spinning in his arms to face him. My palms smoothed across his charcoal sweater, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath the soft fabric. "They’re all coming tonight. My parents, Ma and Pa, Roxanne, even Vivian."
His lips brushed the tip of my nose with gentle reverence. "Everything already is perfect. Open your eyes, Seraphina. The pack thrives. Our children laugh without fear. Everyone we love is safe and whole. That’s all any of us ever dared to hope for."
We finished arranging the final place settings together, and my chest tightened with affection watching him. This man who commanded armies with iron authority now carefully folded napkins with the same precision he used in battle, all to bring joy to my face. We had become partners in everything, from leading our united packs to ensuring every guest had a comfortable seat.
Each day he proved the depth of his transformation, showed me the magnitude of his love. Pride swelled within me as I witnessed how far we had both traveled from where we began.
As twilight painted the sky in deep purples, our guests began to arrive.
My parents crossed the threshold first, and the sight of them sent emotions crashing through me. Weeks had passed since our last meeting while they poured their energy into rebuilding the Solstice Fang from its ashes.
My mother’s arms crushed me in an embrace so fierce I struggled to draw breath. Initial resistance melted away as warmth flooded my chest, and I returned her fierce hold with equal intensity. My father extended his hand to Julian, respect radiating from his weathered features.
"The Solstice rises stronger than before, Seraphina," my father declared, his eyes bright with pride. "None of this would have been possible without your unwavering support."
Ma and Pa swept in next, carrying the comforting aromas of home-cooked food that made my mouth water instantly. Ma had insisted on preparing half the meal at their own house, convinced beyond reason that my culinary skills would never measure up to her standards.
Pa caught my eye and delivered one of his signature winks that never failed to lift my spirits. This man held a special place in my heart because he possessed the rare gift of perfect timing. When situations demanded gravity, he became a pillar of strength and wisdom. When moments called for lightness, he could coax smiles from the darkest moods.
Nolan and Penelope burst through the door hand in hand, their laughter infectious as it filled the room. During my darkest hours, they had been my anchors, keeping me tethered to hope when everything seemed lost. Witnessing their radiant happiness now made my heart soar with joy.
The door opened once more to reveal Roxanne and Caleb.
Roxanne practically glowed with inner peace and contentment. Gone was the bitter girl who had once coveted everything I possessed. In her place stood a woman who had discovered her own path to fulfillment. She crossed the room with confident strides and wrapped me in her arms.
"You look absolutely radiant, sister," she whispered against my ear.
"You’re glowing too, Roxanne," I replied with complete sincerity.
A hush fell over the gathering as our final guest made her entrance. Vivian stepped carefully inside, anxiety written across her features as her hands gripped a delicate shawl like a lifeline.
She had not set foot in Fang territory since her exile began, though the children and I had made several visits to her modest home. Those encounters had slowly rebuilt the bridge between us, transforming our relationship from bitter enemies to something resembling understanding.
Her gaze swept across the assembled faces before she lowered her head in a gesture of humble respect. The formality seemed unnecessary to me because regardless of her past mistakes and current exile, she remained my children’s grandmother, and that bond carried weight.
I approached her without hesitation, taking her trembling hand in mine and guiding her toward the table.
"Welcome home for tonight, Vivian," I said with genuine warmth.
Tears gathered in her eyes as she looked at me with wonder and gratitude. "Thank you, Seraphina. From the bottom of my heart, thank you."
