"Song You’ai, what are you doing?" Zhong Bao stepped forward, his brows furrowing in anger. "Do you have any idea who this is?"
"This is Mr. Zhang Zhennong, the eldest son of our Base Chief Zhang."
"I don’t care who you are!" Song You’ai’s face was livid. "Coming to my home to cause trouble? You should take a good look at yourself and see if you’re even worthy!"
"You!"
Zhang Zhennong raised his hand, pushing the furious Zhong Bao back. His sharp, hawk-like eyes gleamed with a cold light as he looked at Song You’ai. "Ms. Song, on behalf of the base, I’m giving you a serious warning: don’t take things too far!"
"You may be Superpower Users, but you are Superpower Users who belong to the base. You may be capable, but you must follow the base’s orders for everything!"
"That’s right. Look at the times we’re in! Should we humans really be fighting amongst ourselves?" Zhong Bao snorted. "As Superpower Users, you, more than anyone, should shoulder the great mission of preserving the flame of humanity!"
"Cut the crap! What’s with the high-and-mighty act? What are you really here for?" Song Youzhi interrupted irritably. "Thugs and bandits like you, who just barge into people’s homes, have the gall to lecture us about some bullshit mission? Are you trying to be funny?"
Zhang Zhennong raised his hand to stop Zhong Bao and the others from clamoring further. His expression was impassive as he said, "I’m here for two reasons today. First, to have Ms. Song sign this new contract and return to serving the people of the base. Second, to be joined in marriage with Miss Xie Ning."
As soon as he finished speaking, the three Song siblings all stared at the man before them as if he were a lunatic, their eyes dripping with sarcasm.
"Hahaha! A guy with an ugly mug like yours dares to have designs on my cousin?" Song Kexin poked her head out the window, her voice full of derision. "I think you’ve lost your mind! ’Joined in marriage’? Go get ’joined’ with your mother! You shameless bastard, what’s an old man like you doing having wet dreams?"
Zhang Zhennong glared, and the Wind Ability User beside him immediately sent countless Wind Vortexes flying toward the window.
Song You’ai and Song Youzhi quickly moved to block the window.
One released Ice Blades to block while the other threw out a flurry of Iron Fists, ultimately dispersing all dozen or so Wind Vortexes.
"Kexin, take Grandpa and Grandma to the second floor," Song Youzhi said sternly to his daughter, turning his head.
Song Kexin had just been about to roll up her sleeves and unleash a Fireball. Hearing her father’s words, she cried out, "Dad!" her face a mask of dissatisfaction.
"Go on, quickly," Song Youzhi urged.
Song Kexin gritted her teeth and resentfully climbed down from the window.
Song You’ai stomped on the new base contract and sneered. "Heh, the son of Base Chief Zhang. So mighty, so grand. Your family’s young miss tells me to scram, and I scram. She tells me to come back, and I come back. What do you take me for?"
"A dog raised by the Zhang family, just like these people?"
"Ms. Song, don’t force my hand!" Zhang Zhennong cracked his neck, a truly vicious smile appearing on his stern face.
"Young Master!"
"Do it!" Zhang Zhennong waved his hand.
At the same time, a SWISH! cut through the air.
Accompanied by a piercing "AHH!", one of the lackeys behind Zhang Zhennong was struck square between the eyes by a metal arrow over a foot long. He collapsed and died on the spot.
"Someone’s upstairs!" Zhong Bao raised his hand and pointed to the second-floor balcony.
Another metal arrow flew down, grazing the forehead of the person next to him before THUNKing into Zhong Bao’s shoulder.
Zhong Bao let out a guttural howl of pain, the impact of the metal arrow knocking him back two steps.
A raging fury burned in Zhang Zhennong’s eyes. "Break down the door!"
The dozen or so burly thugs he had brought with him charged forward, only to be quickly forced back by several Wind Vortexes that rushed to meet them.
Without a word, Xiao Huang Mao grabbed his Metal Knife and stabbed one of the men in the waist. He followed up with a vicious kick, sending the brutish man tumbling down the steps.
Zhang Zhennong, seething with rage, stared at Song Shijun and Xiao Huang Mao as they rushed out of the house. A cold sneer played on his lips. "Heh, Ms. Song, you’re quite something, aren’t you? Raising a whole den of tigers and wolves!"
"Pah!" Song You’ai hurled an ice ball. "You shameless piece of filth, what right do you have to talk about us? Barging into someone’s home like a common thief! You’d deserve it if we killed you!"
’That disgusting, ugly man actually wants to force my precious daughter to marry him? Does he really think he can do whatever he wants just because it’s the apocalypse?’
"Get them!" Zhang Zhennong roared.
The dozen or so burly men hesitated for a moment, then charged madly up the steps, clearly intending to break through the door.
SWISH! SWISH! Two more metal arrows shot out from the window, striking two of the burly men in the neck.
As blood gushed from their wounds, the two men instantly collapsed to the ground.
"Watch out for the one shooting arrows from inside!" Zhong Bao roared, clutching his bleeding arm.
WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH. With a cold expression on his handsome face, Song Shijun gathered countless Wind Vortexes in his hands and hurled them viciously into the crowd.
Xiao Huang Mao and the couple, Song Youyi and his wife, each wielded a Metal Knife, blocking the doorway.
"You still dare to resist!" Zhang Zhennong’s fury soared. "Let’s see how long you can keep this up! I have plenty of men at the base!"
"Get everyone from outside in here!"
Following his order, dozens more people began pouring in endlessly from the main gate.
These ordinary people weren’t the biggest problem.
The trouble was the three Superpower User subordinates at Zhang Zhennong’s side. One was Wind Element, one was Fire Element, and their coordination was surprisingly good.
The third, a Speed System user, focused on interfering with Song Youzhi.
Under his constant harassment, Song Youzhi was attacked from both front and back and was hit by a Fireball.
Song You’ai acted quickly, dousing her younger brother with a layer of icy water that immediately extinguished the flames.
Zhang Zhennong smacked his right fist into his left palm, and a TSSS of white smoke rose from the impact.
"Let me deal with you myself!"
"Look out!" Song You’ai shoved Song Youzhi aside while simultaneously dodging a sudden punch from Zhang Zhennong.
The force of the punch slammed into the villa’s wall, letting out a loud, cracking RUMBLE.
A single human punch had actually shaken a wall to the point of crumbling!
Song You’ai’s eyes widened, and her heart tightened.
Zhong Bao had already pulled the metal arrow from his shoulder and was baring his torso while a subordinate applied medicine.
Seeing this, he couldn’t help but grin and laugh. "A bunch of country bumpkins who’ve never seen the world, are you scared now? Our Young Master is a Third Rank Enhanced Superpower User. Never seen one before, have you? Hahahaha!"
Song You’ai’s heart sank.
’Third Rank?’
’Among everyone present, only my eldest younger brother, Song Youzhi, is a Second Order Power-type Superpower User.’
’Everyone else is just First Rank.’
’This Zhang Zhennong truly lives up to his reputation as the son the Base Chief carefully cultivated. The apocalypse has only been going on for a month, yet he’s already reached a Third-stage Superpower.’
"Ms. Song, I told you," Zhang Zhennong said, a sarcastic smile tugging at his lips. "Don’t refuse a toast only to be forced to drink a forfeit."
He threw punch after punch at Song You’ai. She retreated again and again, able to do nothing but continuously block with ice balls.
Just then, a metal arrow suddenly shot toward his heart.
Zhang Zhennong whipped his head around, his falcon-like eyes locking onto the figure inside the window.
