So, if Xu Wei were smart, she would realize that the man she liked would never abandon his girlfriend to be with her.
On the other hand, if he did abandon his girlfriend to be with her, he would no longer be the person she liked.
That was why Qin Jiao had told her not to fall for a man who was already taken.
When Qin Jiao and Shen Yi went to sit in on a computer science class, it just so happened that the professor teaching it had been involved with the programming competition.
He recognized Shen Yi. It was hard not to. The student was a real handful—the type to sleep through class yet still answer any question perfectly when called on.
Then he’d heard that this same Shen Yi’s girlfriend, a freshman from the law school, had won first prize in their computer science department’s programming competition.
He walked in with his teaching notes and immediately said, "Shen Yi, is your girlfriend here?"
The class erupted in good-natured laughter, and students shifted in their seats to reveal Shen Yi and Qin Jiao sitting in the back row.
Qin Jiao froze for a moment, but Shen Yi just drawled, "Professor Li, what’s that supposed to mean? I’m telling you, you’re way too old, so don’t even think about eyeing my girlfriend."
This Professor Li was actually the youngest professor in the department. He was thirty, but to a group of college students barely in their twenties, that was practically ancient.
Professor Li didn’t get angry. He just said, exasperated, "Alright, alright, cut it out. By the way, you must be Qin Jiao, right? Have you ever considered transferring to our Computer Science department?"
"Thank you for the offer, Professor, but I’ll have to pass. The professors in my major are quite fond of me as well," Qin Jiao replied graciously.
The class once again erupted in good-natured laughter.
Professor Li quickly quieted everyone down. "Okay, okay, let’s start class. But you should really think about it," he added. "Your Shen Yi is such a brilliant student. Aren’t you going to transfer over to keep an eye on him?"
The professor was young and knew how to banter with his students.
The whole affair with Xu Wei pursuing Shen Yi had caused quite a stir not too long ago, and of course, the professors knew all about it.
Qin Jiao just smiled faintly and said, "It’s fine. It remains to be seen who’s the anxious one here."
Everyone: ...
As if on cue, everyone turned to look at Shen Yi. He nodded earnestly. "I’m the anxious one. I’m the one who’s worried. I’d give anything to transfer to the law school."
That sent everyone into another fit of laughter.
Professor Li didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He couldn’t let this banter go on. Any further, and not only would he fail to poach an excellent student, but he’d also lose one of his own!
Class finally began, and the little episode came to an end.
When class ended, Qin Jiao had to rush off to one of her major-specific courses, but unexpectedly, Shen Yi tagged along.
Qin Jiao was exasperated. "What are you following me for?"
"To stake my claim. I’m anxious too, you know."
"Oh, please. You’d fall asleep the second one of my lectures started. Why don’t you go check on our apartment? The renovations are almost finished. My dad’s been keeping an eye on things, but I’d like to know how it’s really going. I’ll grab some food after my class and meet you there."
Shen Yi was torn for a second, but ultimately chose to obey and go check on their new apartment.
’After all, that was his and Jiao Jiao’s love nest. He couldn’t afford to be careless with it.’
So, Shen Yi started strolling toward Rose District. On the way, however, he saw Lin Nian, her eyes red.
Shen Yi gave her an indifferent glance and continued walking, treating her like a complete stranger.
But as Lin Nian watched Shen Yi, she suddenly seemed to think of something and called out, "Shen Yi, wait a second!"
