Sun Lili had grown used to Shen Feng’s recent moody attitude. She smiled and said, "I came to see you! We haven’t seen each other in so long."
Shen Feng frowned. "My professor might need to see me this afternoon. I can’t go out with you."
Sun Lili was taken aback. She had actually been hoping Shen Feng would go for a walk in the park with her. Then, once they were tired, the two of them could grab a casual dinner at a restaurant in the evening.
’Isn’t this how dating is supposed to work?’
But if a professor needed to see Shen Feng, she couldn’t hold him up. Sun Lili suddenly remembered seeing Shen Yi earlier, and she quickly said, "We don’t have to leave campus, that’s fine too! Oh, right, our school has a debate competition against your school today. Let’s go watch together. Let me tell you, Qin Jiao is incredible! Even though she’s only a first-year, she made it onto our school’s debate team."
Shen Feng was about to refuse—’why would I want to watch a debate competition?’—but as soon as he heard Qin Jiao was participating, he immediately changed his mind.
"Fine."
Although Sun Lili could sense that Shen Feng’s interest in Qin Jiao was unusual, she was also certain that Qin Jiao would never like Shen Feng. So, putting her mind at ease, she followed Shen Feng into the small auditorium.
Meanwhile, the North City University debate team was making its final preparations. Han Juan, a substitute, was incredibly nervous. She and Qin Jiao were the only first-years on the team.
She whispered to Qin Jiao, "Qin Jiao, aren’t you nervous? I heard there are a lot of people out there. Not just students from Technology University, but a lot of other people, too."
"It’s fine. From where we’ll be sitting, we’ll mostly be looking at the other team’s debaters, not the audience. Just imagine everyone in the audience is a mannequin."
Han Juan stared, stunned. "You can do that?"
Qin Jiao smiled faintly. ’I’ve already died once. A debate competition between two universities is hardly a big deal.’
Xu Zhengyang overheard their conversation, and a gentle look flashed in his eyes.
’This was the girl he liked. It was her first time in a situation this big, yet she didn’t have a trace of stage fright.’
’How could she be so full of good qualities?’
But the thought that he didn’t even have a chance to confess to such a wonderful girl made him let out a soft sigh.
The debate competition began. Shen Yi had found a seat right at the front and was watching eagerly. Before long, he saw Qin Jiao walk in with the rest of the North City University team, dressed in a white shirt.
Then, he heard a female voice behind him exclaim, "Look, it’s Qin Jiao!"
Shen Yi subconsciously turned to look and saw that the speaker was Sun Lili, whom he’d run into earlier. And sitting beside her was an expressionless Shen Feng.
Well, not entirely expressionless. The moment Shen Feng saw Qin Jiao make her entrance, his eyes lit up as well.
Shen Yi was speechless.
He glared fiercely at Shen Feng, who quickly noticed. The two of them were staring daggers at each other from across the room.
In perfect sync, they both glared at each other with the kind of look that said, ’You stole my wife...’
Although Qin Jiao wasn’t nervous, she still glanced at the audience. Sure enough, she spotted the handsome and eye-catching Shen Yi in the crowd. Then she noticed he was looking behind him, glaring at someone with an incredibly menacing expression.
Then she saw Shen Feng sitting with Sun Lili.
Qin Jiao shifted her gaze away, but the image of Shen Yi’s fierce expression made her suddenly think of the super-aggressive big white geese they used to raise back home.
She suddenly felt the urge to laugh.
Xu Zhengyang, sitting beside her, saw the corners of her mouth lift. "Qin Jiao," he asked in a low voice, "what are you smiling about?"
