Yang Chen quickly explained, "Uncle, Auntie, I’m just a rideshare driver."
Yan Tong: "It’s okay, it’s okay. You’re a handsome young man, as long as you treat Shuyi well, we’re very pleased with you."
Yang Chen: "Uncle, I’m not worthy of your daughter, don’t misunderstand."
Yan Tong and Wang Fang exchanged a glance, thinking this young man indeed has some self-esteem issues.
Wang Fang comforted, "Young man, don’t think like that. What’s wrong with being a rideshare driver? As long as you’re hardworking and treat our Shuyi well, the money we’ve earned as old folks is enough for you to spend. So don’t feel inferior because of your job; what’s important is the quality of your character. Come, sit for a while at home; it’s quite hot outside, come in and cool off with the air conditioning."
Saying that, Yan Tong and Wang Fang started pulling Yang Chen out of the car, while Yan Shuyi pushed him out from inside. The three of them worked together to get him out.
"Uncle, Auntie, I’m really just a rideshare driver. I’m just giving her a ride back, we’re not dating." Yang Chen continued to explain.
Yan Tong hurriedly got into the car to move Yang Chen’s car to the side of the road.
Wang Fang advised, "Child, don’t overthink things. We’re very open-minded. As long as you’re a good person, we won’t demand much from you. Shuyi’s father and I are both university professors. Although our family isn’t extremely wealthy, it’s enough to ensure a good life for you two. We only have Shuyi as a child; everything of ours will be yours in the future. So don’t think too much, just handle things with a normal heart."
Yang Chen was exasperated; why can’t he explain things clearly?
Beside him, Yan Shuyi felt guilty and embarrassed; she kept her head down and suppressed laughter.
Yang Chen said to Yan Shuyi, "Miss Yan, why don’t you say something? Tell Uncle and Auntie, I’m just a rideshare driver..."
Yan Shuyi quickly interrupted, "Come on, be a bit more confident. Didn’t you understand all that my mom said? Our family won’t look down on you for being a rideshare driver; as long as you treat me well in the future, that’s enough."
Wang Fang: "Hehehe... Yes, yes, that’s the idea. I feel a real affinity with you. The more I look at you, the more pleasing you seem, even a bit familiar."
At this moment, Yan Tong cheerfully ran over and handed the car keys to Yang Chen.
The whole family cheerfully brought Yang Chen back home.
Yan Tong and Wang Fang were very hospitable, offering drinks, snacks, and fruits.
Yang Chen felt helpless; this family is full of intellectuals, but communication seems so difficult.
Yan Tong: "Child, how’s your family situation?"
Yang Chen: "It’s just me in my family. My grandparents passed away early, and my parents died in a car accident ten years ago. Now the only relatives I have are my aunt and cousin."
Wang Fang: "Oh dear, such a poor child. No wonder you are so talented, yet can only be a rideshare driver. Your parents had the accident ten years ago; you must have only been in your teens back then. Life’s crucial stage without care and companionship indeed makes it hard to succeed."
Yan Tong: "No worries, you can treat this place as your own home. If you’re willing, you can even call us mom and dad now; we accept you as our son-in-law."
Yang Chen was just about to speak when Yan Shuyi quickly said, "Dad, Mom, don’t rush him. You might scare him off."
Yan Tong: "Oh, haha... Understand, understand. Child, besides driving the rideshare, what do you usually do? Do you have any hobbies or anything?"
Yang Chen: "Not much of special interests, just driving the rideshare, part-time delivery, occasionally doing some small investments."
Yan Tong and Wang Fang exchanged a glance and nodded approvingly.
This child, apart from lacking education and working as a rideshare driver, has no other shortcomings.
He’s good-looking, motivated, honest, and reliable; most importantly, he has no family, which avoids daughter-in-law and mother-in-law conflicts, making him very suitable as their son-in-law.
Yan Shuyi thought it was about time and quickly said, "Dad, Mom, it’s quite late; let him go back. When he has time, I’ll bring him back for a meal, to visit you formally."
Yan Tong and Wang Fang nodded and quickly got up to send Yang Chen to the elevator.
Yan Tong: "The child is nice, quite honest, Shuyi shouldn’t be bullied while with him."
Wang Fang: "Hahaha... The more I see this young man, the more pleasing he seems, and there’s really a feeling of familiarity."
Yang Chen and Yan Shuyi walked out of the elevator.
Yan Shuyi, usually so straightforward, kept her head down and walked beside Yang Chen.
When they exited the building, Yang Chen turned and asked, "Why are you following me? Go back."
Yan Shuyi: "I’m sorry. Don’t be mad at me, okay? In my circle of friends, there aren’t any suitable guys to help out, so I had to pull you in for a favor. How about I treat you to a meal tomorrow to show gratitude and apologize? Is that okay?"
Yang Chen shook his head, saying, "No need. Just tell your parents we’ve broken up. Go back; I have to go home. It’s late; you shouldn’t be outside alone."
Yan Shuyi quickly stopped Yang Chen again, saying, "Can we add each other as friends? Please give me a chance to apologize."
Yang Chen shook his head, saying, "No need. We might never meet again; why add friends?"
Yan Shuyi held onto Yang Chen’s hand, saying, "Just add me as a friend, please."
Yang Chen immediately said, "I’m someone who believes in fate. If we meet again, then it means we have a connection, and I’ll add you as a friend. Didn’t you want to go shopping? I’ll treat you to a fun day at Joy City. How about that?"
