Not in the Mood

The entire day had been torture.

Angela was pissed at me for snapping at Jack. Jack wasn’t too fond of me for that either. And Michelle was just ignoring me while sending me disapproving looks.

Everyone else was avoiding me. But that was probably because I had snapped at everyone that got near me.

I was never a big happy guy to begin with, but today was the day I might finally snap someone’s neck.

I snarled, growled, and yelled at everyone all day, so they’d tried to stay away from me the best they could. And when that didn’t work, I hid out in my office.

There was plenty of work to do, but after sitting at my desk for roughly two hours, I was still looking at the same piece of paper.

I couldn’t think about anything except for her and her fucking deep brown eyes. Some people believed that brown was ordinary and nothing special. But it wasn’t, it was warm and intriguing…

I could stare into her eyes forever and never actually get to the bottom of them or get tired of them. They hid so many things and emotions…

So many emotions, and I just couldn’t decipher half of them.

Her eyes weren’t the only interesting thing, of course. Her lips and the words that came out. So snarky and sarcastic.

Her body and the curves in just the right places, and the legs attached to that perfect ass.

I felt my cock swell just at the images of her bent over with that ass high in the air, as I pounded into her from behind.

“All right, that’s it. I’m done letting you sit in here and hide.” I was pulled out of my little fantasy as Angela threw open the doors.

She marched confidently into my office, tossed a bunch of shopping bags into a chair and stalked up to me with her arms crossed.

“Not in the mood, Angela,” I groaned while readjusting myself in my chair, flipping through a stack of papers on my desk.

“Too fucking bad.” She slammed her hands down on top of the papers, and I let out a low growl glaring at her. I knew my eyes were black, my wolf shining through. Angry at the disrespect she was showing her alpha. She flinched slightly but didn’t back down.

“Save it, Aidan. I’m going to talk and you’re going to listen,” she growled back, letting her wolf shine through her eyes as well.

Normally that would be considered as a challenge or a direct crime toward your alpha, but this was something else.

“Kiarra.” She spoke the name slowly, and it got my attention. “That’s her name, in case you forgot.” I felt a low rumble forming in my chest, but I let her continue.

“She’s twenty-four years old and is living the life of a homeless person. She has no family, no friends. She’s been alone her entire life.” My wolf whimpered in my head, retreating, no longer shining through my eyes as clearly. ~She’s alone?~

“She jumped around from home to home, never having anywhere to stay, never having someone want her or consider her family, Aidan. It’s a miracle from the Moon Goddess herself that she somehow found her way here.

“Because this is where she belongs! This is her family!” Angela spoke more slowly than her normal headlong speed, but I was guessing that was because she actually wanted me to listen.

“I swear to the Goddess, Aidan, if you don’t get your shit together, and we lose her…?” She was furious, this girl who was usually all giddiness and smiles. And not only angry; she was sad. As she spoke of my…mate’s…life, a silent tear escaped her eye and slowly trickled down her cheek.

“She’s our family now, Aidan. And unless you want to lose yours, you’d better not let her leave again.”

Her wolf was still shining brightly in her eyes, while mine had chosen to hide away. Her last statement made me understand why I didn’t find her actions disrespectful at all.

She was a wolf protecting her luna. And that was a bond so strong that it could never be wrong.

I didn’t know what to say. So, I stayed silent and only let my face be an emotionless mask. I couldn’t care. I just couldn’t. Kiarra was human. And that made her weak and fragile.

Angela saw me making no move to talk, so she huffed in annoyance and continued.

“That poor girl is all alone in the world, and she doesn’t have to be. Because she actually found you. Her mate. You two were destined to be together and you can’t even be ~bothered~?”

I scowled at her.

“I can’t, Angela.” My voice stayed as emotionless as my face while I kept my eyes on her.

“Why, Aidan? Why is it so fucking hard for you? It’s not like human mates are rare. Sure, it’s not every day an alpha gets a human mate, but it’s been done before. So, why?” Her voice was a little less angry this time around.

“Because humans are weak. And I don’t need a weak-ass human,” I snarled at her, clenching my fists.

“So you’d rather condemn your mate to a life of loneliness than end up like your dad?” Angela spat the last part at me so hard I almost flinched. Then she spun around on her heel, grabbed her bags, and slammed the door as she stormed out.

I was left sitting at my desk, trying to focus again on the paperwork, but ending up thinking about ~her~ again.

This was the right decision. It had to be.
