Chapter 594 - 246: Demon Suppression Bureau, Slaying the Wolf Demon at Night

Therefore, Chu Lingguang didn’t plan to stay in the Court for too long.

He had participated in the Martial Arts Examination, vying for fame and fortune, all for the sake of gaining more Favor Points. His true objective was to raise his Cultivation Realm through Martial Arts Cultivation, break through his physical limitations, and attain immortality.

Like Yan Zhen, he saw the Court as a mere stepping stone. Once they earned enough merit to enter Yuanchu Mountain for cultivation, they would both leave without a moment’s hesitation.

Even if they had become Governors in charge of their own Governor’s Mansion, neither would feel any attachment.

Xuanyuan Jinkang was probably the same.

Therefore, Chu Lingguang was unwilling to get entangled in the Court’s struggles unless absolutely necessary. He hoped to earn his merits in a region like Black Bear Island, ideally without offending anyone.

Unfortunately, he had sworn an oath of brotherhood with Mo Shan and three others.

And now that he knew the contents of the wooden box were being sent to Yunchuan City, he could no longer stand idly by.

「Late that night.」

Yang Lijun was resting in the room next to Chu Lingguang’s.

Chu Lingguang entered the Divine Breath state, his Spiritual Sense blanketing the area around the post station.

Under the effects of the Divine Breath Technique, Yang Lijun thought Chu Lingguang had vanished. Fortunately, the wooden box was still there. Chu Lingguang had instructed her not to leave the post station tonight under any circumstances, unless he was gone and an attacker broke in.

ROAR!

The Wolf Demon let out a low growl.

It had been scared off by Chu Lingguang’s gaze at dusk.

Now, late at night, it had returned to the forest opposite the post station. As a Wolf Demon King capable of walking upright, it let out a soft growl, releasing a ripple of power that felt like a gentle breeze.

It was as if it could take in everything within the post station at a glance.

A flicker of confusion crossed its mind.

It found traces of Yang Lijun in the post station and could even hear a tremor from within the wooden box, yet it couldn’t find Chu Lingguang’s aura or sense his presence.

’Could he have already left the post station?’

It then glanced behind itself. Time was running out. If it didn’t leave human territory soon, escaping would not be so easy once those people from the Demon Suppression Bureau arrived.

"Halt!"

「Seven miles away.」

A troop of mounted soldiers reined in their horses at the edge of a forest.

Each of their mounts was a priceless Han Gao Steed, and every one possessed the blood of a Demon Beast.

"Sir, what is it?"

Hu Yanlin asked.

"The Wolf Demon is in this forest. It can sense the bloodline of the Han Gao Steeds. Your squad will dismount and follow me inside. The rest of you, lock down this forest to prevent the Wolf Demon from breaking out."

"Yes, sir!"

the middle-aged man ordered.

"Move out!"

He then led Hu Yanlin and a half-dozen other members of the Demon Suppression Bureau into the forest, charging toward the post station.

ROAR!

The Wolf Demon seemed to sense them. A low rumble emanated from its gut as it once again released the Wave Power that felt like a passing breeze. After sweeping its senses over the post station one last time, it could no longer hold back. It transformed into a silver phantom and shot toward the building.

It moved with such speed that it looked like a bolt of lightning streaking out from the trees.

The livestock in the post station cried out in terror.

Yang Lijun quickly slung the wooden box onto her back, drew blades with both hands, and stood on guard inside her room.

"Who’s there?!"

The guards at the post station were startled.

But before they could react, they felt a fierce gale sweep over them. A few of the guard captains, who had only awakened the second or third level of their Dharma Aspects, were struck by the blast. Their Dharma Aspects shattered, and they died on the spot.

ROAR!

The Wolf Demon let out a deafening roar.

The door and windows exploded into splinters at the same time.

Its figure shot into Yang Lijun’s room.

The instant it entered her room, however, it found itself charging into a forest of spears, with blades of spear light raging all around.

A spear’s shadow thrust out from the adjacent room.

Before the spear even reached it, the demon felt its internal organs suffer a devastating blow. Its silver fur instantly dulled.

Only then did it realize that Chu Lingguang had been in the post station all along. He had never left—it had simply failed to detect him.

’Cunning human,’

it cursed inwardly.
