Chapter 395 - 393: Who Is This Act For?

Mia Grant’s expression faltered for a moment, her look perfectly crafted. "It was an accident."

She looked utterly innocent, her gaze constantly flitting to Kian Keller’s leg. "Does it still hurt now?"

She was clearly trying to change the subject. Kian Keller’s eyes were deep and unreadable; he couldn’t shake the feeling that she had hidden many things from him during the time he was away.

He had just met with Yates Donovan, but the man was too slick, and he hadn’t managed to get any information out of him in the end.

It was a blessing that Mia Grant hadn’t been injured.

Kian Keller fell silent for a moment, then dropped the subject.

He answered, "Sometimes."

In truth, his leg hadn’t fully recovered. It was nearly impossible for it to return to its previous condition.

Some of the damage was irreversible.

But as long as he avoided high-intensity exercise, standing and walking were no problem.

Of course it hurt, especially when the weather was bad.

But compared to before, he was already very satisfied with his current state.

According to his doctor’s plan, he was supposed to return to the country in the second half of the year.

Now, he was back several months ahead of schedule.

But there was no need to tell Mia Grant any of this.

Mia Grant gently squeezed Kian Keller’s leg and frowned slightly. "You should sit down."

Thinking about his injured leg, Mia Grant couldn’t help but wonder what had become of the Kian Keller from the last world in the end.

In the original book, it only mentioned that Kian Keller had become despondent due to his leg injury and only emerged from his gloom thanks to the female lead’s healing. In the end, it just said he got back on his feet, without much further description.

Kian Keller didn’t sit. Instead, he raised his hand to brush aside the stray hairs on her forehead, looking at the red, swollen area and then at the faint pink scratch on her cheek.

Mia Grant took the opportunity to touch her own head. Her forehead was a little sore, but there was no cut.

’I must have hit it on something. I wonder if it was the airbag.’

’In any case, when the airbag deployed, I nearly suffocated.’

’My head was spinning from the impact, which is why I didn’t clearly hear what the system said.’

’I’m only sure that it rattled off a whole bunch of stuff.’

"I’m really fine." She pushed his hand away. "I was just dazed by the impact."

"Mm."

Kian Keller withdrew his hand and asked her what she wanted to eat.

It was already very late.

Mia Grant thought for a moment. "Let’s get noodles."

She was supposed to go get noodles with Yates Donovan anyway.

Who would have thought their lunch would turn into dinner?

Thinking about that sudden shared glance in the car, Mia Grant reflected on it. ’It really was crazy.’

’Thinking about it now, I feel a little scared in hindsight.’

’But at the time, I wasn’t thinking about it that much.’

’There was no anxiety, no nervousness—just a rush of adrenaline.’

’It was like deciding to climb the wall and skip class right before the college entrance exams.’

She had no penchant for self-harm or masochism. She would absolutely never do something so idiotic a second time.

Kian Keller ate dinner with her.

When Zelo brought the food in, he greeted her. He also said that she had scared them all.

Mia Grant had been too dazed at the time to notice them.

Zelo vividly described the thrilling, heart-pounding scene from that afternoon.

Listening to him, Mia Grant’s eyes curved into crescents. "It wasn’t that dramatic."

"We just hit the guardrail. Yates Donovan hit the brakes in time, and he deliberately avoided the oncoming traffic before the crash."

"It was a close call, but no one got hurt."

’Listening to Zelo, you’d think we were in a blockbuster movie.’

Zelo clutched his chest. "You have no idea what it feels like to have your heart stop. For a second there, I thought I saw my great-uncle, who passed away years ago, coming to get me."

Mia Grant couldn’t help but laugh.

Zelo was exaggerating a bit, but the group of bodyguards had indeed been given a terrible fright.

The car had been waiting at a traffic light at the intersection when it suddenly shot forward.

It was going very fast, and its direction was off course.

They were in the surrounding cars. When they saw something was wrong, they almost instinctively gave chase. They rapidly formed a plan in their minds: isolate Yates Donovan’s car from the flow of traffic, then force it to a stop.

But just as they stepped on the gas, the car ahead of them suddenly crashed into the guardrail.

The front of the car was caved in, and several meters of the guardrail were bent out of shape.

The airbags deployed, and the person in the passenger seat didn’t move.

’It’s over, it’s over,’ they thought. ’This time, it’s really over.’

Fortunately, Yates Donovan, in the driver’s seat, reacted quickly. He forced his door open, practically pried open the passenger side door with his bare hands, and carried Mia Grant out.

Mercifully, there was no blood at the scene.

But before anyone could breathe a sigh of relief, Mia Grant fainted.

At first, they all thought the problem was with Yates Donovan. Had he been drinking counterfeit alcohol? Or had he suffered a sudden stroke?

But later, after reviewing the surveillance footage, they discovered that it was actually Mia Grant who had made the move.

They couldn’t get the dashcam footage from Yates Donovan’s car, so they didn’t know what had happened between the two of them inside.

According to Yates Donovan’s one-sided "testimony," he said the two of them had an argument.

But this excuse sounded too flimsy.

The boss naturally didn’t believe it either.

’Judging by the current atmosphere, the boss probably didn’t get the truth out of Miss Grant either.’

That’s why Zelo had put on such a performance.

Too bad. Mia Grant was completely unmoved and showed no signs of wanting to discuss it further.

「In the hallway.」

Silas Grant arrived late.

Yates Donovan was sitting on a long bench in the hallway, smoking. Hearing footsteps, he instinctively glanced toward the elevators.

When he saw Silas Grant, he raised an eyebrow slightly. Just as he was about to take the cigarette from his lips to greet him, a fist came flying at his face.

"The fuck?!"

As Yates Donovan opened his mouth, the cigarette fell directly onto his pants.

He had no time to pick it up, his hand shooting up in a swift reaction to block the solid punch.

The other man’s strength was too great, and he hadn’t been on guard.

Even though he blocked it, the impact still sent his back slamming hard against the seat’s backrest.

In a real, proper fight, it was hard to say whether he or Silas Grant would win.

After all, they were both trained fighters.

He cursed under his breath, "What the hell is wrong with you?"

Fearing the other man would strike again, Yates Donovan seized the opportunity to quickly get up and put some distance between himself and Silas Grant.

He sized up the man opposite him, only then noticing that he wasn’t wearing his glasses.

His tie was gone, and his collar looked loose and askew.

The man made no attempt to hide his menacing aura, and Yates Donovan felt a headache coming on.

His official story was that he and Mia Grant had an argument, which led to today’s accident.

So now he could only suffer in silence.

Sighing silently, he pointed to the nearby hospital room door. "She’s fine. Didn’t you see the surveillance footage?"

Yates Donovan brushed the ash from his pants, then lifted his foot and ground out the cigarette on the floor.

"So dramatic."

He muttered under his breath, then glanced at the hospital room. "The fake monk is in there eating with her. Why don’t you wait a bit before going in?"

Of course Silas Grant would wait before going in. He never wanted Mia Grant to see him in such a state.

Disheveled, and radiating hostility.

She had just been through a scare; he couldn’t frighten her again.

He brushed off his collar, put on his glasses, and when he looked up again, his eyes were perfectly clear.

Seeing him calm down, Yates Donovan prepared to light another cigarette and sit down to rest.

’I can’t be bothered to argue with this psycho.’

He had just taken out his lighter when the cigarette held between his lips was snatched away and snapped in two.

Yates Donovan’s brow twitched. He looked up, his eyes full of confusion.

’Don’t tell me he actually wants to fight right here?’

Silas Grant ignored his gaze and asked coldly, "Today’s incident was planned by you two, wasn’t it?"

"Who were you putting on a show for?"
