Chapter 353:Tales.

Movement appeared throughout the village. The newcomers had been noticed. Figures slowly emerged from homes and gardens.

Some stood no taller than Atheline’s waist. Others were almost the same height as ordinary humans. A few were even taller.

Each possessed delicate wings, though no two pairs appeared exactly alike. Some resembled butterflies, others dragonflies, and some looked almost crystalline, reflecting every color of the setting sun.

Hair ranged through every imaginable shade. Their clothing appeared woven from leaves, flowers, silk-like fibers, and shimmering materials unfamiliar to either ruler.

Instead of fear... The expressions watching them were filled with curiosity. Children peeked from behind enormous flowers. Elderly fairies whispered among themselves. Several adults openly stared.

It had clearly been a very long time since strangers had visited. The little fox immediately became the center of attention. A tiny fairy child cautiously approached before kneeling several feet away.

The fox tilted her head.

The child giggled. Moments later, three more children joined. Within minutes, the fox had happily accepted their gentle pats, completely forgetting her duties as guardian.

Atheline laughed quietly.

"She made friends before we did."

Lilith couldn’t argue.

The gathered crowd slowly parted. A graceful woman walked forward. She appeared no older than thirty, though both rulers immediately sensed appearances meant very little here.

Her long silver-green hair reached almost to her knees. Elegant wings resembling stained glass shimmered gently behind her. Unlike the others, she carried a simple wooden staff crowned by a blooming white flower. Her presence was calm, not overwhelmingly powerful... Yet dignified.

She stopped several paces before the visitors. For several seconds, everyone simply observed one another, then the woman smiled warmly.

"So..." Her voice was gentle, carrying naturally across the clearing. "...our gate has finally welcomed guests again."

Lilith inclined her head respectfully.

"I am Lilith, and this is my husband, Atheline. We apologize if our arrival caused concern."

The woman smiled a little wider.

"Concern?"

She softly laughed.

"No. Surprise and certainly, but not concern."

She placed one hand over her heart in greeting.

"I am Lyria. My people entrusted me with guiding this village."

Atheline returned the gesture.

"It is an honor."

Lyria’s eyes lingered on both of them thoughtfully.

"You crossed the Ancient Veil without breaking it. There are very few who could accomplish that."

Lilith answered honestly.

"It took us nearly two days and more patience than strength."

Lyria nodded approvingly.

"Then the Veil judged correctly."

She gestured toward the village.

"Please. You’ve traveled far. You are welcome here."

The surrounding fairies gradually relaxed. Children resumed playing. Adults returned to their conversations, though many continued stealing curious glances toward the newcomers.

As they walked through the village, Atheline couldn’t help noticing how naturally everything functioned. The settlement possessed a quiet rhythm unlike any kingdom he had visited. Even the homes seemed alive.

Flowers opened as residents approached. Bridges gently shifted to shorten walking distances. Trees subtly bent their branches to provide shade.

Lilith quietly observed everything.

"They’re using living Aether."

Lyria nodded.

"Our ancestors learned long ago that nature responds more willingly to cooperation than domination."

After several minutes, they arrived at an open pavilion overlooking a beautiful lake. Crystal lanterns floated gently above the water, illuminating the gathering dusk.

Lyria invited them to sit. Tea prepared from fragrant forest herbs was quietly served. For a while, nobody spoke. The peaceful atmosphere itself seemed enough.

Eventually... Atheline asked the question occupying both their minds.

"You sealed yourselves away."

Lyria looked toward the distant forest.

"Yes, our ancestors did."

"Why?"

A faint sadness appeared in her eyes.

"They believed the world was ending."

Silence settled over the pavilion.

"When the Great War began, our scholars foresaw disaster. They believed that no civilization would survive what was coming."

She gently rested one hand upon the wooden table.

"So they gathered everyone they could, created the Veil and closed the gate."

Her gaze drifted toward the immense forest surrounding the village.

"They intended to reopen it once peace returned." She smiled sadly. "They never did."

Atheline listened carefully.

"So this sanctuary already existed before the Cataclysm?"

"It did."

"Our ancestors created it as a refuge."

He frowned slightly.

"Then... Why is it here?"

Lyria tilted her head.

"Here?"

"In the Demonic Continent."

She looked mildly surprised.

"Our ancestors never intended to come here."

Lilith and Atheline exchanged glances. Lyria continued.

"When they sealed the sanctuary, the world outside was still whole." She slowly traced one finger across the tabletop. "Then, something happened. Nobody witnessed it because the gate remained closed. We only know what our ancestors passed down."

She looked toward the evening sky.

"They said the land itself broke apart. Continents drifted away from one another, mountains rose and seas formed where none had existed. Our sanctuary..." She smiled faintly. "...must have moved with one of those lands."

Atheline’s eyes widened slightly.

"So when the world separated, this sanctuary became part of what is now the Demonic Continent."

Lyria nodded.

"That is what we believe. We have never confirmed it until today... We had never met anyone from the outside."

Evening gradually settled over the hidden village. The glowing flowers brightened. Crystal lanterns drifted lazily through the air. Soft music began echoing somewhere among the trees.

Lyria stood.

"You must both have countless questions." She smiled apologetically. "As do we, but today has already been extraordinary."

She looked toward the darkening sky.

"Night approaches; our people rarely make important decisions while exhausted."

She bowed gracefully.

"Tomorrow... We shall satisfy each other’s curiosity. We have waited countless generations. I believe one more evening will not hurt."

Lilith rose.

"Thank you for your hospitality."

Atheline nodded in agreement.

"It has already answered questions we never expected to solve."

Lyria smiled.

"I suspect it has also created many more."

With that, attendants guided the royal couple toward a guest residence grown seamlessly into the trunk of an ancient tree.

Behind them, the fairy village slowly came alive beneath the night sky, glowing with gentle lights like a constellation hidden within the heart of the forgotten forest.

And above, unseen among the highest branches, countless curious eyes still watched the first outsiders to enter their sanctuary since the world itself had been torn apart.
