IT WAS supposed to be a fine morning.
Wonyoung and Yun Dujun drove the kids to school.
Well, to be precise, Han Myung was the one driving the car.
Yun Dujun was in the passenger seat, while Wonyoung and the kids were in the backseat.
"Papa, will you and Daddy attend my class activities from now on?" Yun Yuhyun asked, his eyes sparkling. "Can I tell my friends that I have a papa and a daddy? That Yunchae Noona’s parents aren’t my parents?"
"Of course, baby," Wonyoung answered. "We don’t have to hide anymore."
He had already discussed that with Yun Dujun last night.
We agreed that there’s no more reason not to show up for their son.
Of course, they wanted to protect Yun Yuhyun and An Baekya’s privacy.
But their son’s wish should come first.
Yuhyun has been enduring all this time. He even got teased by his classmates because he couldn’t tell them who his parents are. Although he’s fond of my brother-in-law and his family, it won’t change the fact that he feels sad he couldn’t brag about his own parents.
"I’m so happy, Papa," Yun Yuhyun said, hugging Wonyoung. "I can finally tell my classmates that my parents didn’t abandon me."
Huh?
"Did someone at school tell you that you were abandoned by your parents, Yuhyun-ah?" Yun Dujun asked, obviously upset. "Why didn’t you tell me?"
"It’s okay, Daddy. Yunchae Noona scolded them for me," Yun Yuhyun said with a smile. "And Yunchae Noona said I shouldn’t be upset with something I know isn’t true."
Hearing that broke Wonyoung’s heart.
My baby suffered a lot because of us.
"You did well, Yuhyun-ah," Wonyoung said while hugging his son. "But you don’t have to endure anymore. If someone teases you again, whether what they say is true or not, tell us. We don’t want you hiding painful things from us."
"Okay, Papa," Yun Yuhyun answered, hugging Wonyoung tight. "I’ll tell Papa and Daddy everything from now on."
"Yes, please do that," Wonyoung said, and then he looked at An Baekya. "You, too, Baekya. Once people figure out that you are our foster child, your classmates might start teasing you. Kids these days can be cruel. So, tell us if they bully you."
It was hard to trust even children these days.
Especially spoiled brats from rich families.
Plus, our country has severe bullying problems. And those bullies start young. It’s better safe than sorry.
"I understand, Appa," An Baekya said politely. "I’ll do that."
***
"PAPA, Daddy, you’re walking us to our classroom, right? I’m really happy!"
Wonyoung was glad, too.
They looked like a big and happy family while walking the kids to the classroom.
Wonyoung and Yun Dujun were on either side of the kids.
Everyone was holding hands, too.
Wonyoung held Yun Yuhyun’s hand, Yun Yuhyun held An Baekya’s hand, and An Baekya held Yun Dujun’s hand.
At least, Dujun Hyung and Baeka don’t look awkward.
"There they are!"
Hmm?
Wonyoung was surprised when he heard a loud yell from the people gathered in front of the building where his children’s classroom was located.
When the crowd turned around and faced them, he was shocked to see everyone holding a huge camera. Some had lanyards around their necks, showing off their huge press ID. The others looked more like fansite masters than reporters.
How did they know we’ll be here today?
"Wonyoung-ah, take the kids back to the car."
He heard the Alpha, and he also wanted to do as he was told.
However, when Wonyoung turned around with the kids, he realized that more reporters (and probably fansite masters) were running towards them in all directions.
How did they get inside the school?!
"Dujun-ssi, Wonyoung-ssi, are these your children?"
"Who is your son, and who is the foster one between these two?"
"Kids, do you know that your parents are famous?"
Fucking hell.
Wonyoung wanted to curse the reporters, but he calmed down when Yun Dujun’s stinky pheromones leaked out.
The Alpha was already angry, so he forced himself to stay calm.
At least one of us has to be sane for the sake of the kids.
"Please step away and don’t startle my kids," Yun Dujun said firmly while blocking the reporters who came a little too close. "Have some decency."
Wonyoung could tell that Yun Dujun was trying hard not to push the reporters.
Aside from the fact that it would be a problem if he showed a bit of violence, the Alpha probably didn’t want to scare the kids even more.
Fortunately, Han Myung came and helped scare the reporters who came a little too close.
"Papa, Daddy! My eyes hurt!"
Tsk.
Wonyoung removed his jacket and covered Yun Yuhyun and An Baekya with it to protect the kids from the flashes of cameras around them.
Yun Dujun and Han Myung were blocking the reporters from approaching them.
But since they were cornered, they couldn’t move from their spot.
How did the reporters find out that we’ll be here today?!
Were Yun Yuhyun and An Baekya’s identities already exposed?!
"HEY, MOVE BACK!"
Huh?
When Wonyoung raised his head, he was surprised when he saw a big group of men in black running towards them.
In just the blink of an eye, the reporters were pushed back.
Ah, right.
Wonyoung almost forgot that they were always followed by a convoy.
The additional security team that arrived created a circle around their family, hence allowing them to breathe finally.
"These are our men, Wonyoung-ah," Yun Dujun said. "Let’s get out of here."
Wonyoung nodded, and then he picked up Yun Yuhyun as Yun Dujun picked up An Baekya.
Thanks to their bodyguards, they safely made it back to the car.
Han Myung then hit the gas as soon as everyone had their seatbelts on.
"Papa, that was scary," Yun Yuhyun said between sobs while hugging Wonyoung. "Who are those people? Why do they keep talking to us? And they keep shoving their cameras in our faces. I don’t like them..."
Tsk.
Wonyoung hugged Yun Yuhyun, anger rising in his chest towards those reporters.
I’ll never forgive those jerks for scaring my baby!
"Don’t worry, baby," Wonyoung assured his son. "We won’t let that happen again."
"I don’t wanna go to school anymore," Yun Yuhyun said, burying his face against Wonyoung’s stomach. "What if those bad guys appear again? I’m glad Papa and Daddy drove us to school today."
Right?
If Wonyoung and Yun Dujun didn’t go with the kids...
I don’t want to imagine what could have happened.
"Dujun Hyung..."
"Yes, I’ll talk to the school director later," Yun Dujun said sternly, clearly not happy with what had just transpired. "I’ll make sure to let them know that I wasn’t happy with how those reporters and stalkers managed to get in when the security here was supposed to be top-notch."
Wonyoung nodded. "Thank you, Hyung."
"Sir, we’re being followed," Han Myung reported politely. "What should we do?"
Aigoo.
"Shake them off first," Yun Dujun said, obviously annoyed. "Then let’s head back home. They can’t enter the village."
***
WONYOUNG had to make a difficult decision as soon as they got home.
Yun Yuhyun wouldn’t stop clinging to him.
And his baby wouldn’t stop crying either.
My son is still shaken after we got ambushed by those reporters.
Hence...
"I’m sorry, Hyung. But I’d like to stay here with Yuhyun. I can’t leave our son in this state," Wonyoung said carrying Yun Yuhyun in his arms, rubbing his son’s back to soothe him. "Can I leave it to you?"
Yun Dujun nodded. "Of course. I’ll ask Inyeop Hyung-nim to send more bodyguards here."
"I don’t think that would be necessary. Your house is safe."
Their house in the gated village was the safest place for them at the moment.
"It’s better safe than sorry," Yun Dujun said, then he checked his watch. "I need to go now if I don’t want to miss the flight. And I can’t keep Song Sihyuk waiting either. We already owe him a huge debt for helping us."
Yes, plus the fact that Jeong Semin was with Song Sihyuk right now.
We left Jeong Semin in Sihyuk-ssi’s care because Lee Heeju and his men can’t touch a chaebol more powerful than him.
Wonyoung nodded and was about to say something, but...
"Appa, I’m sorry for being selfish, but Semin Hyung needs you," An Baekya said desperately. "He said he can’t beat the old shaman without you. Please come with us, Appa. We need you."
"No!" Yun Yuhyun yelled, hugging Wonyoung’s neck tightly. "Papa and I won’t leave the house! I don’t wanna go out! Papa will stay with me here!"
"Calm down, baby. We’re not going anywhere," Wonyoung said, gently patting Yun Yuhyun’s back. Thankfully, his son calmed down. "Baekya, I’m sorry. But I’ll prioritize my son this time. I don’t know why Jeong Semin needs me, but trust Dujun Hyung and Sihyuk-ssi. They won’t let anything bad happen to him and Lim Bada."
"Wonyoung is right," Yun Dujun said, and then he looked down at An Baekya. "Did Jeong Semin say why he needed Wonyoung?"
"Apparently, Appa’s luck can help him with the fight, Abeoji."
"My luck?" Wonyoung asked curiously. "I’m lucky? For real?"
"Yes, Appa. As the person who gave birth to Yun Yuhyun, you gained the luck from the deity that oversees the Yun Clan. It’s the fortune that you need in order to raise Yun Yuhyun properly, as the deity treasures Yun Yuhyun. Well, at least, according to Semin Hyung," An Baekya explained. "It’s the same luck that Madam Kang Chunja had when she gave birth to Abeoji. But that luck has been transferred to you now, Appa."
Oh.
Wonyoung did remember that he got extremely lucky when he didn’t die after Kang Chunja tried to shoot him.
The gun malfunctioned and almost made his mother-in-law’s hand explode.
I guess that’s the luck that the kids are talking about.
"If the luck is transferrable, then I’m giving it to you," Wonyoung said, placing a hand on top of An Baekya’s head gently. "Baekya, I’m sorry to ask you this. But please go with your abeoji and share the luck with Jeong Semin to save your uncle."
An Baekya frowned. "I don’t mind going with Abeoji since I do want to meet my uncle. But do you think this will work, Appa?" The kid pointed a finger at Wonyoung’s hand that was still on top of his head. "Can you really transfer your luck with me this way?"
"I don’t know, but I have a feeling that it will work," Wonyoung said casually. He wasn’t being careless— he just decided to trust his instinct. "Let’s gamble on the luck that you mentioned."
***
AN BAEKYA expected Jeong Semin to get mad after realizing that Bae Wonyoung wasn’t with them.
But it was actually the opposite.
The young shaman’s face beamed upon seeing him.
"What happened, Baekya?" Jeong Semin asked excitedly as they met in front of the private plane that they’d be using. "You’re overflowing with divine luck."
’Divine luck?’
So, Appa’s plan actually worked?
Thankfully, An Baekya and Jeong Semin could talk freely because the adults (Yun Dujun and Seong Sihyuk) were having a serious conversation away from them.
"Appa can’t come with us, so he just ’transferred’ his luck with me," An Baekya said awkwardly. After all, he still couldn’t believe that Bae Wonyoung managed to do something impossible possible. "But he just patted my head. Did Appa really transfer his luck to me by just doing that? I can’t believe it."
"I can’t believe it either, but it’s Bae Wonyoung-ssi we’re talking about here. He’s the person who gave birth to Yun Yuhyun, so he’s bound to have some special privileges," Jeong Semin said casually, shrugging. And then he paused for a moment. "But Bae Wonyoung-ssi gave all of his divine luck to you without leaving any for himself."
Oh?
Is that going to be a problem?
***
WONYOUNG, who had just tuck Yun Yuhyun in bed after his son cried his eyes out, suddenly felt a shiver down his spine.
He didn’t like the ominous feeling that he had.
I hope Dujun Hyung and Baekya made it to the island safely.
He grabbed his phone and was about to send a message to Yun Dujun, but he suddenly got a call from a person he didn’t expect.
Bae Gayoung?
Wonyoung had goosebumps.
Yes, his younger cousin was already awake.
However...
Gayoung’s phone was stolen, so how...?
Wonyoung knew he shouldn’t pick up the call, but he felt a strong urge to do so.
But he didn’t open his mouth.
Well, he didn’t have the opportunity since the person on the other line spoke urgently as soon as he picked up the call.
"Wonyoung Hyung, this is Sung Mingi— please help us!"
What?
Sung Mingi was Bae Gayoung’s boyfriend, but how did he get his hands on Bae Gayoung’s missing phone?
Moreover...
He said help ’us.’
"Help you and who?" Wonyoung asked nervously. Bae Gayoung was supposed to be safe in the hospital, guarded by the people Yun Dujun assigned to protect his younger cousin. "What’s going on, Sung Mingi?"
