Chapter 125

Chapter 125

It’s Not Like I Can’t Afford to Keep You

When Henry dragged the man out of the confessional, most people’s faces showed surprise.

The church staff were even more puzzled about the man’s identity.

“Who are you? Why were you inside the confessional?”

The staff member’s words caused a strong reaction among the parishioners.

They were all afraid this man had tried to take advantage of their Miss Lilith inside.

“You bastard! Did you try to lay a hand on my Miss Lilith in the confessional!”

“I’ll kill you, you damned scoundrel!”

Henry: Meow meow? Wasn’t he the one who should be considered the victim here?

He cleared his throat lightly, then revealed the Cross Pendant symbolizing the Church Headquarters for all to see.

Seeing this symbol, the church Priest immediately rushed forward and excitedly shook Henry’s hand.

“Ah, Sir! We’ve finally been waiting for you. Have you been inside all this time?”

The Priest vaguely remembered that Henry should have just gone in for confession earlier.

How did he suddenly become the envoy sent by the Church Headquarters?

Could it be that he wanted to personally test Sister Lilith’s standard?

Thinking of this, the Priest’s forehead broke out in a cold sweat.

After all, Lilith’s method of helping these parishioners with their confessions was quite… unique.

While the process might not be pleasant, even somewhat crude, the results were surprisingly effective. He just didn’t know what this special envoy would think of it.

Seeing the Priest’s reaction, the many parishioners stared suspiciously at Henry, also noticing the man Henry was holding, who had been beaten to a pulp.

“This man here was disrespectful to the nun in the confessional, so I taught him a lesson. Any problems?” Henry threw the man into the crowd.

Hearing Henry’s words, the fanatical believers below immediately saw red.

They cherished Lilith so much they’d enshrine her if they could, and yet this man actually dared to be disrespectful to her!

With this thought, the fanatical believers started kicking and punching the man, regardless of his identity – beat him first, ask questions later!

Meanwhile, Henry silently turned his gaze to the Priest nearby. His unfriendly expression made the Priest break out in a cold sweat.

“How do you run this church? You don’t even notice when ruffians mix in among the parishioners! If I hadn’t been inside, he probably would have gotten handsy with the nun!”

Henry’s stern words nearly made the Priest kneel on the spot.

“Yes, yes, this is our fault. We will definitely supervise more strictly afterwards to ensure such incidents don’t happen again.”

“However,” Henry continued, his tone shifting slightly, “this nun did a pretty good job, and the Faith Power here is quite sufficient. Consider yourselves passed.” Henry waved his hand, appearing very casual.

But his words lifted a great weight from the Priest’s heart. He had prepared for so long, all for this one statement. Lilith was truly a treasure; he must find a way to make her stay, no matter the cost!

Naturally, Henry was unaware of the Priest’s thoughts. He walked straight out the door to find the resting Jikes.

“So, Henry, you believe this church has great potential in the future?” Jikes listened to Henry’s words, pinching his chin in serious thought.

He actually trusted Henry’s judgment. After all, anyone who could get on the same wavelength as the Church Headquarters must have good insight!

“As a church, it’s naturally fine. But there’s no need to select Sister Lilith as a Holy Maiden.”

“Why not? She’s quite good-looking, isn’t she?” Jikes didn’t quite understand Henry’s choice.

Judging by the level of Faith Power in this church, Sister Lilith truly had the potential to become a Holy Maiden.

“Jikes, leaving aside Lilith’s rather unique temperament for a moment, just think about the parishioners here. Do you think it’s appropriate for the future followers of the Church Headquarters to all be Masochists?”

Jikes followed Henry’s line of thought and imagined it.

The scene of parishioners asking Lilith to insult and whip them while she stood on stage looked more like a cult spreading its beliefs.

“Alright then. I’ll report the facts when the time comes.” Jikes patted Henry on the shoulder. “You must contact me after graduation, Henry! I’ll reserve a position for you at the Church Headquarters!”

The other man had just drawn him a grand future, but unfortunately, Henry wasn’t fond of empty promises.

After Jikes left, Lilith appeared behind Henry.

She glanced briefly at Jikes’s retreating figure, then let her gaze linger on Henry.

All that talk about church missions was nonsense. Right now, Lilith’s mind was filled with the scene of Henry standing up for her earlier. It made her cheeks flush slightly.

Still, she restrained her emotions and walked to Henry’s side, speaking in a low voice, “Was that man just now the one sent by the Church Headquarters?”

“Right. Thanks to him, I’ve gained another identity as a Special Envoy Assistant for the Church Headquarters.” Henry dangled the Cross Pendant in his hand.

Who would have thought a simple pendant could make the usually high-and-mighty Priest grovel like a dog?

Of course, the Priest never imagined that Henry and Lilith were in cahoots.

“But speaking of which, Young Master Henry, you were really quite manly and charming earlier~~” Lilith stealthily nibbled on Henry’s earlobe.

It startled Henry, who quickly looked around, afraid someone might see this.

“Hey, what are you doing? It wouldn’t look good if someone saw.”

“But you seemed to be enjoying yourself quite a bit back in the confessional.” Lilith leaned against Henry’s shoulder, poking his cheek with her fingertip.

“I was forced, you know?!” Henry argued vehemently, but Lilith paid his protests no mind.

“Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing you. Since you helped me out so much today, Young Master, what reward would you like?”

“Right now, I just want to go home and sleep. I feel sticky all over.”

Back in the confessional, Henry had really felt like he was about to heat up and explode. Why wasn’t there a single ice magic user in the entire church? With all that funding, couldn’t they allocate a little for that? He should have given the Priest a proper talking-to earlier.

“Lilith, you…” Henry had been about to ask Lilith to buy some groceries before heading home, but Lilith’s head naturally rested on his shoulder, her softness pressing against his back.

Lilith closed her eyes, her steady breathing sounding behind him. She seemed genuinely exhausted.

This was the first time Henry had seen Lilith so worn out. He didn’t say anything more, supporting her hips with his hands and summoning his Flying Sword to ride home.

And so Lilith lay against him, sleeping peacefully as he flew.

“If you’re tired normally, just rest. Why push yourself so hard? It’s not like I can’t afford to keep you.” Henry muttered under his breath, worried Lilith might work herself to exhaustion.

He didn’t know that behind his back, Lilith’s lips curled silently into a smile.

Young Master Henry is quite gentle after all…
