Half a Life of Innocence

Chapter 562 - 544: Su Rushi’s Shame

A wantonly reckless voice boomed from the sky above, its tone so domineering it showed no regard for the White Demon King—a dignified Deep Mountain Demon King—let alone the crowd of Great Demons below.

It was as if in all of heaven and earth, he, this snake, reigned supreme.

Crashing the wedding?

As the demons processed his words, their faces twisted into expressions of sheer, uncontrollable astonishment. The wedding procession had certainly gotten lively now; there was a real show to watch. To think that something as ridiculous as a wedding crashing could happen at a Deep Mountain Demon King’s ceremony.

And the one doing it was none other than the Snake Race’s new Snake King, the most talked-about figure in the entire Yaoling Mountain Range.

It was shaping up to be a clash of titans.

Before, everyone would have thought this snake was courting death, daring to crash the wedding of a Deep Mountain Demon King. But after what happened on Monkey Mountain, where the Gray Demon King had fled in disarray, everyone subconsciously felt this snake had both the right and the power to do so.

For a moment, the wedding procession erupted in a flurry of discussion, the sound of gossip swelling like a tidal wave. The White Demon King looked up, his handsome face ashen with rage. Demon Qi surged from his body, and the very air around him seemed to plunge into an endless, dark abyss.

Inside the Demon King’s Castle, the other three Deep Mountain Demon Kings watched Tu Xiao’an’s domineering declaration with expressions of great interest.

The Gray Demon King clicked his tongue and sneered, "That damned snake... he actually dared to show his face. Good. Excellent. Did you really think I ran away last time because I was afraid of you? Who the hell do you think you are? We’ll see if you’re lucky enough to escape in one piece today."

As he spoke, an intense, undisguised killing intent emanated from the Gray Demon King. He looked as if he wanted nothing more than to strike the snake down that very second.

This was the first time the Yellow Demon King had seen the new Snake King of the Snake Race. After a brief look, he commented dispassionately, "Just a little snake who has recently become a King. He truly doesn’t know his place. The dignity of a Deep Mountain Demon King is not to be challenged. Cousin, you’re really becoming more and more of a disappointment."

"You don’t understand, Cousin. Demon King Liu’s adopted daughter was there at the time. That madwoman seems to have inherited part of Demon King Liu’s cultivation. Her strength is now on par with ours."

"Hmm? What did you say?"

The Gray Demon King quickly corrected himself. "I mean, her strength is on par with me and the White Demon King. I was wary of that madwoman that day, so I made a strategic retreat and let the snake go for the time being."

"Demon King Liu was a formidable character," the Yellow Demon King said, his gaze shifting to the Fox Immortal King, whose face was veiled by white silk. "Even now, we can’t be one hundred percent sure if he’s truly dead or still alive. Second Sister Fox, what do you think? Is Demon King Liu dead or alive? The matter is still unresolved."

The Fox Immortal King said coolly, "Do you really need to ask me? Don’t you already have an answer in your own heart? I remember how you used to call him ’Brother Liu’ so eagerly. You never called him ’Demon King Liu’ back then."

The Yellow Demon King was instantly speechless, his face flushing red as if he’d been choked. ’Damn these Fox Ladies,’ he thought. ’Can’t she show a little courtesy when she speaks?’

’That was then, this is now. Back then, Demon King Liu was the strongest in the Yaoling Mountain Range. Who would have dared to disrespect him? But times have changed. He’s probably long dead by now. What the hell is there to revere?’

’Not calling him ’Dead Snake’ is already showing him plenty of respect.’

"Even if Brother Liu is gone, the Snake Race won’t fall into ruin," the Fox Immortal King said. "I can see this new Snake King is young and full of spirit. His strength is not to be underestimated. The fact that he dares to openly crash Younger Brother Bai’s wedding means he’s supremely confident. His cultivation must be no weaker than Younger Brother Bai’s."

"As for this new Snake King’s actual strength... well, I imagine Younger Brother Hui would know best," the Fox Immortal King said with a light laugh, turning the conversation—and her gaze—to the Gray Demon King.

The Gray Demon King’s face instantly turned livid. His expression was so foul that if anyone else had said that to him, he would have slapped them into dust by now.

’Isn’t she just rubbing salt in the wound? Damn this Fox Lady. Her sharp tongue is truly a match for her cultivation.’

"I’d say he’s nothing special," the Gray Demon King snorted. "If that madwoman wasn’t protecting him, that snake would’ve died a hundred times over by now. Second Sister Fox," he added, "we are a family here. You can’t protect an outsider. This snake came here to make trouble; it’s a public slap in the face to all four of us Deep Mountain Demon Kings. He must be executed to make an example of him!"

"I’ve said it before: I owe Demon King Liu a great favor, and a favor must eventually be repaid. If it’s a one-on-one fight, I can turn a blind eye. Whether that snake lives or dies will be up to his own fate, since he’s the one who came looking for trouble. But if you and Younger Brother Bai, two Demon Kings, were to team up against him... that would be going too far. No matter what, I’d have to step in and speak a word for fairness. After all, the Snake Race is still one of our five great lineages."

"Two against one?" The Gray Demon King’s face was a mask of contempt. "Second Sister Fox, are you overestimating that snake, or are you underestimating me and Younger Brother Bai? You think he’s worthy of that?" Inwardly, however, he was cursing. She had just blocked off his best option.

The Gray Demon King had been planning to kill that freakish snake at any cost. He couldn’t be allowed to grow any stronger.

The Fox Immortal King simply smiled at his words, her gaze fixed on the scene outside, and said nothing more.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Demon King’s demonic eyes glittered, his thoughts unreadable.

.......

At the foot of the mountain, the White Demon King, clad in his groom’s attire, unleashed a terrifying, abyss-like aura. His killing intent billowed like a furious gale as he boomed, "Damned snake! I never thought you’d actually dare to come. It seems I’ve underestimated you."

"You, you damn hedgehog, personally invited me to your wedding feast. How could I, the Snake King, possibly refuse? And I told you, if I came, it wouldn’t be for a drink. It would be to crash your wedding. A mere hedgehog like you lusting after a swan? Don’t you know your place?"

Tu Xiao’an hovered in the air. His voice wasn’t loud, yet it reached the ears of every single Demon Spirit, clear as a thunderclap.

The White Demon King nearly coughed up a mouthful of blood. His status? He was a dignified Deep Mountain Demon King, and yet this snake was looking down on him! What incredible arrogance.

The other demons listened in a state of existential crisis. If a Deep Mountain Great Demon’s status was being scorned, what did that make them? Were they worth less than bedbugs?

’The arrogance of this new Snake King is off the charts! You’re just a snake! So you became a king, and now you’ve forgotten who you are?’

"Xiaoleng... you..."

High in the sky, Su Rushi, dressed in her phoenix crown and wedding dress, stared blankly at the handsome young man floating before her, utterly dumbfounded.

Her pet snake had become a man. The person before her had a face that radiated a natural, refined handsomeness. His eyes were lively and bewitching, with a playful glint that added a hint of mystery. He had a straight, high-bridged nose and the corners of his mouth were turned up in a slight smile, revealing a unique, roguish charm beneath a veneer of shyness.

All in all, he was a handsome young man. Su Rushi stared, unable to reconcile the person before her with her Pi Pi Snake.

It felt just like a dream.

Her head was spinning. How on earth had her snake turned into a handsome man?

Suddenly, Su Rushi’s cheeks flushed bright red as a memory struck her. Back in Rushi Pavilion, she had never been modest in front of this snake. She had been completely exposed.

She had fed him fruit, slept while holding him, and even bathed with him... they had seen each other naked.

It was safe to say this snake had seen every single inch of her body, with nothing left to the imagination.

At the thought, Su Rushi’s face felt like it was on fire. She was so embarrassed she turned as red as a boiled crab, from head to toe.

She wished she could dig a hole and crawl into it, or flee to the ends of the earth. But as fate would have it, she was suspended high in the open, empty sky.

"What’s the matter?"

Tu Xiao’an turned around and saw her blushing face, as beautiful as a lotus emerging from the water or a peach blossom in the rain, giving off the air of a shy beauty hiding her face.

"You... Turn back around! Don’t look at me!" Su Rushi stammered, her head bowed, not daring to meet Tu Xiao’an’s gaze.

’This snake is the worst!’

Tu Xiao’an was baffled, completely at a loss. If he knew what mortifying thoughts were running through Su Rushi’s head, he would have insisted on his own innocence.

’It’s true, I’ve seen every inch of that girl’s body, and more than once. But I was a passive observer! She was the one who stood right in front of me, letting me see everything.’

’As the saying goes, it would be a waste not to look.’

’I can declare to the heavens with a clear conscience.’

’I have no regrets!’
