Half a Life of Innocence

Chapter 599 - 579: Saving Xiaobai’s Life

The three members of the Tu Family were finally reunited.

Wen Qiu kept holding Tu Xiao’an’s hand, refusing to let go. She was afraid that if she did, she would wake from this dream.

Could reality truly be this wonderful? Even now, she still couldn’t believe it.

After a long while, Wen Qiu gazed at the young man before her. His face was completely unfamiliar, making him feel both strange and familiar at the same time. "An’Er, can you tell Mom everything you’ve been through?" she asked.

In truth, she needed some time to adjust.

Tu Xiao’an reached out, wiped the tears from the corners of his mother’s eyes, and said with a smile, "Mom, it’s a long story. I’ll tell you everything when we have more time. For now, you just need to know that I’m your son."

He didn’t want to go into detail, afraid it would only break her heart.

Instead, Tu Xiao’an chose to tell her stories from his childhood, further solidifying her belief.

Her son had returned from the dead. Wen Qiu was already deeply content and filled with gratitude.

They chatted for a while in the side courtyard, clearing up everything that needed to be said. It was a heartwarming scene of a family of three enjoying their reunion.

Tu Xiao’an was ecstatic. ’I’ve finally reunited with Mom! Even with that little hiccup, everything turned out smoothly in the end.’

"Mom, Little Brother, let’s go back to the Main Hall to talk," Tu Xiaoyue said. "Otherwise, someone is going to take our little spot."

Many people in Bai Town had their homes destroyed by the great monster. Displaced and homeless, they were all crowded into the Snake King Temple.

"An’Er, let’s go inside and talk." Wen Qiu took Tu Xiao’an’s hand and led him toward the Snake King’s Main Hall.

When they reached their little corner by the pillar, his mother took a meditation cushion, patted it clean, and offered it to Tu Xiao’an to sit on while they talked.

Tu Xiao’an immediately frowned. ’How can I let my own mother be crammed into a place like this, living so wretchedly like a beggar?’

"Sis, doesn’t the Snake King Temple have guest rooms for people to rest in?"

Tu Xiaoyue replied, "Of course it does, but these are extraordinary times. Those rooms are more in-demand than a five-star hotel. There’s no way we could get one."

They were snatched up long ago by the influential and high-status people of Bai Town.

With so many people taking refuge in the Snake King Temple, they were already lucky to have this small corner to themselves.

"An’Er, I’m fine. This spot is perfectly all right," Wen Qiu said. The Tu Family home was gone, so she couldn’t take her son home anyway. Besides, it was still so chaotic outside.

Even wonderful things always seem to have a slight imperfection.

"Mom, you just sit here for a moment. I’ll take care of things."

’Are you kidding me? This is the Snake King Temple—my territory. How could I possibly let my mother squat in a little corner?’

’Speaking of which, what’s the name of the person in charge of the Snake King Temple again? He’s a loyal believer of the Snake King... Oh, right. Li Shun.’

’That Li Shun guy is pretty reliable. He was the one I had handle the Snake King statue back then.’

Tu Xiao’an was about to search the Main Hall for a man in a Daoist robe when suddenly, a streak of light shot toward his sister. The next moment, an exquisite little snake was perched on her shoulder, its serpentine aura surprisingly potent.

"Hey, beautiful, your dog’s on its last breath."

The Jade Little Snake had been waiting for Luo Ziyun to return, but when she never showed, it had snuck out to look for her. Upon its return, both the mother and daughter were gone, leaving only the dog by the pillar, barely clinging to life.

’A Snake Spirit?’

Tu Xiao’an was startled to see a snake that could speak human language. ’Why is there a Snake Spirit with my sister?’

Suddenly, Tu Xiao’an’s aura locked onto the Jade Little Snake.

The Jade Little Snake’s body went rigid. With a PLOP, it tumbled headfirst from his sister’s shoulder to the ground. A fear originating from the depths of its soul enveloped its body as it stared at Tu Xiao’an in terror and awe.

"This humble snake pays its respects to the Lord Snake King!"

The Snake King’s aura was unmistakable. The Jade Little Snake understood at once and hurriedly prostrated itself in worship, not daring to even lift its head.

Never mind a mere Snake Spirit like itself; even the many powerful Rank 3 Snake Species of the Snake Race would prostrate themselves in worship upon seeing Tu Xiao’an.

Being the king of all the world’s snakes was no joke.

The Jade Little Snake’s behavior left his mother and sister stunned, and they stared at Tu Xiao’an with bewildered expressions.

Tu Xiao’an slapped his forehead and gave an awkward smile, offering no explanation.

"Ah, Xiaobai!"

His sister remembered. With a cry, she turned and bent down, cradling an all-black dog in her arms. The dog was on its last breath, completely listless and unable to even open its eyes.

"Little Brother, please save Xiaobai! He got this badly hurt protecting Mom and me!" Xiaoyue cried, her heart aching as she held Black-eared Xiaobai. Their mother, Wen Qiu, was also brimming with tears.

Their mother had raised this dog since it was a puppy.

Tu Xiao’an had thought his Xiaobai was already dead. He was overjoyed to find the dog was still alive, leaving him no time to question the Snake Spirit.

But seeing Xiaobai now, on the brink of death, made Tu Xiao’an’s heart ache. He didn’t have to think twice. ’The Taotie must have done this to him.’

’While I was gone, this dog loyally protected its family, my mother and my sister. It didn’t let me down.’

"Sis, give him to me."

Tu Xiao’an carefully took Black-eared Xiaobai from his sister’s arms and examined his injuries. ’With my power now, as long as Xiaobai hasn’t drawn his last breath, I can snatch his life right back from the hands of Yama.’

But the Main Hall was noisy and chaotic—a terrible environment for this. Tu Xiao’an snorted coldly. "Silence."

His bewitching eyes, filled with a terrifying might, narrowed slightly as he unleashed his powerful Consciousness Power.
