"Are...are you alright?" she heard her mother ask. "You sound flustered," even as she instantly answered with a low sigh under her breath.
"Of course. I just...I just needed to make sure you were fine. I’ll call you later once I get home," she said before she instantly hung up. Walking out of the supermarket while starin at the piece of paper with the number written on it which she had been given.
Her first thought was to send the number to Adam and try to figure out who it belonged to, only to pause as she got into the car she came in allowing the bodyguards that followed her to get inside with her.
’I dont even know exactly what he wants," she thought even if he had clearly threatened her mother’s health.
But regardless it rattled her nerves as she went ahead and sent Adam a message detailing the number and what had tramspired between her and the stranger.
Her heeart thumping faster as she leaned against the door staring at her phone only to not get any response even after she had gotten back to the mansion.
Getting out of the car and heading straight towards her room staring at her phone only to be surprised to see Carmen walking straight towards her.
"Vanessa...I was wondering where you went," she said the moment she got close enough even as Vanessa struggled to respond in the same jovial tone in which Carmen had spoken.
"There’s a charity ball I’m hosting and I wanted to know if you would like to help me. Figured you might be bored with you done with school and..."
"But Vanessa didn’t see a reason to let her finish as she smiled at her shaking her hea gently with a smile, "...I’ll rather just attend. I’m no good at planning things," she said even though the question on her mind was how Carmen could bring herself to even plan a big event after what had happened.
The men that had died and how close they had been to dying themselves. She couldnt understand how Carmen could simply go back to living her life without fear in the same mansion which had simply been renovated and nothing else.
Her calmness made Vanessa feel worse since it made her feel like she was somewhat exaggerating the reality of things even if she knew that she wasnt.
"....Okay that works. Just wanted to ask you just in case. Still, in case you change your mind..." Carmen said and Vanessa was already nodding her head with a smile still stamped on her face.
"If I change my mind, you’ll be the first to know about it," Vanessa said, already walking away as she spoke without turning around. A frown appeared on her face the moment she turned as she made her way straight to her room.
Gritting her teeth under her breath. It was already enough that she had to deal with Adam, who was trying to use her just as she was, but someone else was now threatening her mother too.
’I need to take my mother and leave...’ was all she could think of as she entered her room and slammed her door softly behind her, having had more than enough.
But the door had just closed with her resting her back against it when she heard a knock on the door, hard and loud enough for it to be easily ignored.
Still enraged, she instantly pulled open the door with the handle, not sure who she was expecting, but the man she saw standing in front of the door was the last person she expected.
For a split second, she was even confused on who he was until her memory recalled it, realizing that he was the manager who had seen her in Nico’s office and whom she had promised a date or something only to flake on.
She didnt even remember his name ouldn’t be borthered to speak to him as she heard him speak.
"I didnt know if this was a good time but I wanted to know if you could be..."
Vanessa couldn’t bring herself to be nice as she spoke in an icy tone in response, damning all else. "I have a stomachache," she said slamming the door shut in his face wishing she hadnt opened the door even as she mentally prepared herself to call the number she had been given and find out what was needed from her

Carmen watched Vanessa walk past her and she let her heading upstairs to the left wing of the mansion where her study was.
She had quite a lot she needed to do part of which included the charity event she was creating and inviting a lot of people to.
The event was simply a coverup for Carmen to invite every high ranking government individual in the city.
They needed more connections and beyond that was the need to talk to people who would be handling the matters in relations to the creating of the offshore excavation equipment that would be used in extracting the mivite.
She had just stepped out of the mansion through the main doors when she saw cars driving towards the driveway of the mansion and straight towards where she stood.
Even before the cars came to a stop she was aware of who it was. It was clearly Nico who was returning with the entourage of cars he left in.
The cars came to a stop and Nico stepped out with Martin’s opening the door and Nico stepping out dressed in an immaculate black suit which seemed to be his usual colours.
"You’re going somewhere?" Nico asked stepping out to see Carmen who seemed to have already been waiting for him.
"Do I dare to do such a thing?" Carmen responded with a severe expression on her face.
Gorilla was still nowhere to be found and heading out without enough security was asking to be caught and killed in the worst way possible.
"Well, you could still try," Nico responded, moving closer to plant a kiss on her cheek which Carmen allowed with a slight frown on her face.
Public displays of affection weren’t on the list of things she wanted to display with Nico. It was already enough that they were known as business partners; the last thing she wanted was for everyone to know that they were also sleeping together.
But she had barely just leaned away expecting nico to go ahead and do the same only to watch him lean closer instead, grabbing the back of her head in place as he pressed his lips against her.
His eyes wide open even as Carmen’z gaze widened even more than as she felt him kiss her lips firmly before watching him lean away with a soft smile on his lips even as she glared at him wondering what the hell he was up to.
