Fang Zhen rolled his neck. If they were actually going to rob him, he’d have no choice.
He hadn’t wanted to resort to violence; his destructive power was simply too great. But now, it seemed he would have to teach someone a lesson and get a little warmup in.
’I should hold back,’ he thought. ’Try not to kill them.’
But just then, a Fengtian SUV came speeding down an adjacent street. A door flew open while the vehicle was still moving, and several Black men jumped out, AK-47s in hand. They suddenly fired a burst into the sky.
The bikers planning the robbery immediately started shaking. They slammed on their brakes so hard that one man was nearly thrown from the back of a motorcycle.
Seeing the men with AKs approaching them menacingly, the bikers immediately spun their motorcycles around and sped away from Fang Zhen, screaming as they fled.
Fang Zhen watched them go, the corner of his mouth twitching.
’Damn. So this is what they call exotic charm?’
’The guys in Africa are pretty wild.’
Just as he was wondering if he should make a move and "take care of" these gunmen himself, someone else got out of the SUV and shouted something.
Thanks to his mystical aptitude for languages, Fang Zhen understood what the man shouted: "He’s our guest! Don’t scare him!"
Fang Zhen recognized the voice instantly. It was Ke Liangjie.
Sure enough, Ke Liangjie emerged from behind the Black gunmen and walked over.
The guy’s whole style had changed since arriving in Africa. He wore a gaudy Hawaiian shirt, a pair of shorts, and large flip-flops. A closer look revealed they were even a Xia Country brand.
The guy seemed to be doing quite well for himself in Africa. He was living comfortably, even sporting a thick gold chain around his neck—a far cry from his time in America.
Spotting Fang Zhen, Ke Liangjie waved and walked over.
Fang Zhen let out a sigh of relief.
It wasn’t his own safety he was worried about.
If a fight had broken out, he would have been worried for *their* safety.
Unless it was absolutely necessary, Fang Zhen preferred not to kill people in the real world.
"Hey, bro," Ke Liangjie said, walking up to Fang Zhen.
Fang Zhen looked Ke Liangjie over. "You look like you’re doing pretty well for yourself."
"Not at all, just got a bit lucky. I’ve found that Nigeria might be a better fit for me."
Ke Liangjie said modestly, his tone much more relaxed than it had been in America.
Fang Zhen glanced at the Black gunmen surrounding them. "Is it okay to be carrying guns on the street?"
"This is just how it is in Lagos. The wealth gap is enormous, the crime rate is extremely high—even higher than in America—and the traffic is chaotic."
"If you’ve been here long enough, you’ll know that seeing random robberies, extortion, and even kidnappings on the street is a perfectly normal occurrence."
"I don’t dare leave the house here without a few of my boys and a gun," Ke Liangjie said.
"Ah, so the local customs are quite... rustic," Fang Zhen nodded.
A lawless land. People didn’t even need a fig leaf to cover their evil; they just did it right out in the open.
"Come on, get in the car."
"I’ve booked the hotel. We can meet the seller today," Ke Liangjie said.
Fang Zhen didn’t hesitate and climbed right in.
On a purely individual level, there was almost no one left on the planet who could pose a threat to him.
He and Ke Liangjie chatted for a bit after getting in the car, and Fang Zhen learned about his current situation.
After fleeing America for Nigeria, a few brothers from his old Black gang had indeed helped him out and given him some connections.
Now, however, he was facing a serious problem.
Ke Liangjie was a very smart person, and it was a known fact that the intelligence of Xia Country People ranked among the highest in the world.
In a very short period of operation, he had already acquired money, a few businesses, and a following of young African men.
But as his status grew, the very same Black gang members who had given him a leg up began to resent his success.
Those old gang brothers felt that Colin Jie was, after all, an Asian—their little protégé whom they had brought into the fold.
But now, they had to watch as Ke Liangjie’s status and wealth grew so quickly that he was about to surpass them, so they began to ostracize him.
Now, Ke Liangjie was in an awkward position.
On the one hand, he had managed to build up some connections, resources, and money, including his own crew and guns.
On the other hand, his rise had been so rapid that he had no reliable allies, leaving him to fend for himself.
His original gang connections were now useless. The other members weren’t looking to kill him, but they were watching coldly from the sidelines, waiting for a good show. If anything were to happen to him, they’d be the first to kick him while he was down.
Therefore, Ke Liangjie was desperate to escape his precarious predicament.
Fang Zhen’s arrival was the perfect opportunity.
