Pei Baoshan sighed, "Rest assured, I won’t let them stay at home and affect our lives."
Jiang Ran believed Pei Baoshan’s words very much.
Pei Baoshan was not someone overly soft-hearted; he could distinguish right from wrong and had his own principles and limits.
In Pei Baoshan’s mind, such a big brother and sister-in-law had long lost any status.
As they were talking, Wang Cuilan came back with the others.
They had just washed their hands and faces, and simply tidied their hair.
They looked slightly cleaner than before, but just barely.
In truth, they didn’t care; as soon as they entered the house, their eyes were glued to the dining table.
To be more precise, it was the food on the dining table.
Pei Baoshan glanced at them, "If you’re hungry, sit down and eat first. We can talk about other things afterward."
Upon hearing this, they immediately moved to the table, reaching for the food without even sitting down.
The way they gobbled down the food was like they hadn’t had a proper meal in ages.
Not only the adults, but even the two kids about Pei Jing’s age were grabbing food with both hands and stuffing it in their mouths.
The children were small, with small mouths, barely able to hold much food, but they didn’t care.
Their cheeks were bulging, yet they still tried to shove the meat buns in their hands into their mouths.
Their eyes stayed locked on the table, embodying the saying "while eating from the bowl, they looked at the pot."
This scene was both pitiable and sad.
Jiang Ran and the others also ate slowly, not competing with them for food.
Pei Jing held his little bowl, sipping his porridge silently from beginning to end.
Though he didn’t speak, Pei Jing’s eyes occasionally fell upon these people.
A mother knows her child best; Jiang Ran knew that Pei Jing was watching them out of curiosity, nothing more.
Because they ate so fast, the food on the table disappeared equally quickly.
This was supposed to be breakfast for their family, with perhaps a bit much prepared.
Initially, they thought if there were leftovers, they could save it for lunch.
But now there was no worry about leftovers at all.
Not only was the food finished, but it was completely cleaned out.
Looking at the empty bowls and plates, Jiang Ran almost doubted if there was anything in them to begin with.
The woman patted her stomach and showed a contented smile.
"I can hardly remember the last time I had such good food, and ate so much. It’s like living in a fairy tale."
As she said this, the woman turned to look at Wang Cuilan and Pei Baoshan, her eyes full of envy.
"You have to say, second brother and his wife have true capabilities; their life is so comfortable."
"If only we could eat like this every day, how happy we would be."
In times when you can’t even eat your fill, the happiest and most desired thing is to be able to eat well and enough every day.
So after hearing what the woman said, no one felt the urge to laugh at her.
Wang Cuilan and Pei Baoshan didn’t say anything either.
Without anyone responding, the woman didn’t feel awkward.
"Today is New Year’s Eve, what a coincidence that we managed to come over today. Our big family can have a reunion on New Year’s."
