Chapter 656 - 659: Sending Them Back Home

"We may eat coarse grains and swallow vegetables, endure the harsh conditions, but we can’t bear to let our children suffer with us!"

At this point, Xu Yufen seemed genuinely emotional and even started to wipe away tears.

"Coming to rely on you, we just want to give the children a better living condition. So they can study well and be filial to you when they grow up."

Upon hearing this, Pei Baoshan waved his hand dismissively.

"I have my own children and grandchildren, I don’t need your children to be filial to me."

"Besides, children don’t find their mothers ugly, dogs don’t dislike their homes being poor. Whatever conditions you provide them, they have to accept that way of life. If they despise you because of this, they aren’t good children, and you can’t expect them to achieve anything in the future."

Pei Baoshan’s words were indeed rather harsh.

After hearing this, Xu Yufen was so angry her face twisted.

However, Jiang Ran listened and felt that Pei Baoshan made a lot of sense.

If you feel your living conditions aren’t good enough and want a better life, you must work for it rather than rely on someone else’s family for a better life.

If someone indeed does that, then their character is surely questionable.

For such a person, you shouldn’t expect them to repay you when they grow up.

As long as they don’t repay kindness with enmity, that’s already the best you can hope for.

"Alright, stop saying so much." Pei Baoshan directly interrupted their conversation, "Just do as I said before. Otherwise, you can leave now."

"Considering what you did to mom and dad back then, even if I kick you out now, no one will side with you."

Hearing Pei Baoshan’s words, Pei Baoshu and Xu Yufen exchanged glances.

But both of them knew that no matter what they said now, they couldn’t change Pei Baoshan’s mind, and could only nod in agreement.

Jiang Ran looked at them, but didn’t think they would just accept this result.

Agreeing now is probably just a stopgap measure.

After all, if they don’t agree, they might get kicked out immediately.

Staying for the moment, maybe they can figure out a better way later.

Jiang Ran could see this clearly, and of course, Pei Huai and others could too.

The reason nobody was saying anything now is simply because they didn’t want to bother exposing them.

Pei Baoshan called Jiang Ran and Pei Huai out; the three went outside to Pei Huai’s room.

Once inside, Pei Baoshan quickly spoke up.

"Ranran, don’t worry, I absolutely won’t let them stay. After the New Year, I’ll send them back to their hometown. For the next few days, let them stay in the West Cross Courtyard."

When Pei Baoshan said these words, he was cautiously careful.

Initially, Jiang Ran didn’t quite understand why Pei Baoshan had this tone.

But very quickly, Jiang Ran understood.

Because this house was bought by Jiang Ran.

Now that the Pei Family’s relatives had come, and not particularly good ones at that, Pei Baoshan was worried that Jiang Ran would be annoyed, so he hastily reassured Jiang Ran.

Understanding this, Jiang Ran smiled.

"Dad, how could I not trust you? We are a family, there’s no need to explain these things."

Although somewhat familiar with Jiang Ran’s temperament by now, Pei Baoshan had indeed been quite nervous just moments ago.

Only after hearing Jiang Ran’s words did he finally breathe a sigh of relief.

It was best that Jiang Ran wasn’t upset.
