Chapter 668 - 671: Giving New Year’s Money

Jiang Ran glanced at Xu Yufen and said blandly, "That’s fine."

As soon as Jiang Ran said this, whatever Xu Yufen had wanted to say was immediately stuck in her throat, unable to come out.

After struggling for a while, Xu Yufen, still unwilling to give up, dryly said, "I just think Little Jing is still so young, there’s no need to give so much money. Besides, children tend to forget things easily. If they’re playing and accidentally leave the red envelope somewhere, the money would be lost, wouldn’t it? What a pity that would be!"

What she said seemed reasonable and well-founded, as if it truly were the case.

But after a day spent with Xu Yufen yesterday, Jiang Ran had already gained enough understanding of her.

No matter how nice Xu Yufen’s words sounded at that moment, her intentions were definitely not as she claimed.

Jiang Ran smiled faintly, "Anyway, it’s just at home. Even if Little Jing accidentally puts the red envelope somewhere, it’s okay. There are no outsiders at home, so the money won’t get lost."

At this point, Jiang Ran paused for a moment and then continued.

"Besides, although Little Jing is young, he has a great memory and always keeps his things well organized, so he won’t lose them."

Hearing Jiang Ran say this, Xu Yufen forced a smile, "Oh, that’s it, I guess I overthought it."

Jiang Ran did not comment on this.

It was clear that Xu Yufen didn’t seem to understand what embarrassment meant.

After finishing the conversation with Jiang Ran, she immediately pushed her two children, Gou Dan and Big Ni’er, in front of Wang Cuilan and Pei Baoshan.

Xu Yufen’s large hand pushed the two children along as she continued to speak.

"Gou Dan, Big Ni’er, you two kids just standing there, why aren’t you quickly wishing your second grandpa and second grandma a Happy New Year to get your red envelopes!"

"Later, wish your uncle, auntie, little uncle, and little aunt a Happy New Year."

"Our family is poor. Your mom and dad, your grandparents, your uncles, and aunts have no money, but your second uncle’s family does, and they’ll definitely give you New Year’s money this year."

As she spoke, Xu Yufen’s eyes kept darting toward Wang Cuilan and Pei Baoshan’s faces.

She was clearly banking on the fact that Wang Cuilan and Pei Baoshan wouldn’t want to disappoint the children, which is why she said these things.

Wang Cuilan was not going to cater to her bad habits.

To not disappoint the children, one must prioritize their own family first.

People have different degrees of closeness, she’s not muddle-headed enough to be swayed by a few words from others.

Wang Cuilan chuckled, "While red envelopes are a good omen, there’s also something to be said for reciprocity. You just mentioned your family doesn’t have money, so definitely there’s no money for Little Jing. If I give too much, and you don’t have money to give my child, how uncomfortable would that be."

As she spoke, Wang Cuilan fumbled in her pocket and pulled out two five-cent coins, handing them to Big Ni’er and Gou Dan.

"Here, this is the New Year’s money from your second grandma."

Big Ni’er and Gou Dan both reached out and took the coins that belonged to them.

Five cents, to the two children, was quite rare.

After all, from childhood till now, this was the first time they had ever touched money themselves.

And furthermore, Wang Cuilan had said this was for them.

So, they could keep it, right?

Although the two children didn’t voice their thoughts, their expressions had already betrayed them.
