The man with his neck being choked couldn’t find words to describe the sound; it felt as if a demon’s whisper rang by his ear.
In front of him, the man’s eyes glinted with a cold gleam in the dark night, colder than the river water in the winter night...
Coupled with the pain in his neck, he almost believed he would die in the next second.
Powerful fear made him tremble all over, yet he completely forgot to resist.
"Mr. Bennett, let go!"
Someone from the rescue team quickly stepped forward to stop him.
The state Mason Bennett is in right now is clearly off, and this idiot is still provoking him; this is practically seeking death!
Although thinking this, they still couldn’t really watch Mason Bennett do anything to him.
Exhausted, the sudden burst of strength could not match the restraint of several people.
The man who escaped Mason Bennett’s grip was drenched in cold sweat, clutching his neck and retreating to the back, no longer daring to provoke Mason Bennett.
Mason Bennett’s face was ashen, he said nothing, and turned the boat towards the downstream direction.
The search and rescue continued until dawn, without even a corner of Bella Green’s clothing being found.
The reason for ceasing the search was that Mason had soaked in the river for nearly a whole day and night.
By the end, he was relying solely on his will to keep going.
When his body was utterly exhausted and he could no longer hold on.
Originally, Mason Bennett’s injuries weren’t severe, but after a day and night of chaos, upon entering the hospital, he ended up in no better condition than Elliot Morris in the intensive care unit.
In the ward, the elder Mrs. Bennett kept wiping her tears.
Though age had caught up with her, she had been through many storms with Mr. Bennett for so many years.
But seeing her grandson lying in the ward, with her granddaughter-in-law missing, this elder who had been strong all her life, was nearly crushed by the situation.
"Mom, you should go home and rest, I’m here."
Bellamy Homes held on to the elder, with fatigue in her voice too.
Though she didn’t accompany Mason Bennett in the river looking for someone all night, they hadn’t slept either.
Despite managing herself, the elder Mrs. Bennett, due to her age and the blow she’d taken, was already in poor health.
After one sleepless night, the elder Mrs. Bennett’s body could no longer bear it.
"Mason is like this, and Bella’s not found; how can I rest? Go do your tasks, don’t mind me."
The elder Mrs. Bennett waved her hand, her tone somewhat feeble.
"You can’t let Mason recover, and then you fall ill without finding Bella; isn’t that just distracting Mason?"
"You should go back. You need to keep your health steady and manage the family affairs."
Bellamy spoke softly.
With no choice, the elder could only nod.
After a silent moment, she added: "Is Daniel still not back yet? Bring him back as well; since one’s already down, don’t let another fall."
With that, she turned and walked out, hunched over, seemingly aged ten years overnight...
...
The constant high fever persisted for three days, causing Mason Bennett to be in a coma for three days.
Even after lying for three days, when he woke up, he still had little strength left.
His muscles were sore and soft, making even sitting up difficult.
Bellamy Homes saw her son wake up and quickly walked over, her eyes filled with distress.
"Don’t move, I’ll call someone over."
As she spoke, she pressed the call bell next to her.
"Has Bella been found?" The man’s throat was dry and torn with pain, his voice hoarse to almost being inaudible.
Bellamy paused, her expression stiffened, unsure of how to respond.
In the past few days, the Bennett family had continuously sent people out to search, even when everyone said it was impossible to find her.
But they insisted on searching.
Alive, they wanted to see her.
Dead, they wanted...
To see her body!
