Chapter 371 - 333: Biting Back

After her Fire Element superpower reached Level 3, it was far more powerful than before. The flames could even burn for much longer.

If she recalled the flames, she feared the monster wouldn’t die. If she didn’t, she feared it would break through the window and harm innocent people. After all, Titan Adler and his group of superpower users were surely waiting outside the temporary hospital right now.

And so, Three-Eyes appeared at Flora Bloom’s side.

Three-Eyes was massive—several times her size—and its head nearly scraped the second-floor ceiling.

Upon receiving Flora Bloom’s command, the moment she recalled her True Sun Fire, Three-Eyes’s third eye snapped open. A beam of white light instantly locked onto the fleeing monster.

The monster shattered the window and escaped, about to vanish from their sight.

But in the next moment, outside the second-floor window of the temporary hospital, the strange black creature was struck by a beam of white light.

The white light acted like a concentrated time bomb. It erupted without warning from within the black creature, brilliant rays of light etching several cracks across its body.

With a BOOM, the black creature exploded, showering the ground below with chunks of dark flesh.

Once both monsters were dead, Flora Bloom found Neal Wallace and Robin Grant in a nearby examination room. Both were injured. Neal Wallace’s entire chest was soaked in blood, the deep claw marks clearly visible. Fortunately, the flesh around his wounds wasn’t rotting, and the blood that trickled out was still red.

Flora Bloom quickly cleansed Neal Wallace’s wounds with her deep-blue water superpower and gave him a bottle of spiritual water to drink. Then, she turned to Robin Grant.

Although Robin Grant had awakened a Plant Element superpower, perhaps because he was the hospital administrator and spent his days managing patients, he had neglected his training and was still only Level 3. His body was nowhere near as robust as the superpower users who frequently ventured outside.

A single scratch marred his arm, but the gash was a terrifying pitch-black, and the surrounding flesh was already charred and necrotic.

Neal Wallace, who was recovering to the side, was already looking much better. Flora Bloom looked at him. "Mr. Wallace, I need your help."

Flora Bloom took out the wooden tub she had used for Gavin Todd. Considering Robin Grant’s age, Flora decisively sliced away all the necrotic flesh from his arm. She immediately applied her deep-blue water and the spiritual water to the wound.

At the same time, Neal Wallace helped Robin Grant drink some spiritual water.

With this three-pronged approach, the new flesh growing on Robin Grant’s arm was a healthy, normal color—completely different from what had happened with Gavin Todd.

Flora Bloom thought about it and felt a sense of relief. ’Gavin Todd was injured directly by the black scorpion, so its compound toxin went straight into his leg. The toxin from the new zombie that hurt Robin Grant is more like a second-generation poison, not nearly as potent as the scorpion’s first-generation one.’

Although the old man’s arm healed completely in moments, the sheer agony of Flora Bloom carving out a huge chunk of flesh and tendon—deep enough to expose bone—was enough to jolt Robin Grant awake.

Cold sweat beaded on Robin Grant’s forehead. Seeing Flora Bloom and Neal Wallace looking at him with concern, he first glanced down at his arm.

He could still feel the piercing, bone-deep agony from a moment ago. Yet, his arm was as good as new. He instantly thought of Flora Bloom’s miraculous spiritual water.

"Young friend Flora, words can’t express my gratitude! From now on, if you ever need anything, just ask. If it’s something this old man can do, I’ll make sure it gets done!"

Flora Bloom smiled. "I might just take you up on that! But right now, we have more important things to deal with."

"Oh? Well, whenever you need my help, don’t hesitate to ask!"

"By the way, sir, how many patients were in this temporary hospital? If those two zombies injured anyone else, and they start to turn... I fear the consequences will be catastrophic."

Robin Grant thought for a moment. "Don’t worry. When those seven came in, I had them isolated in the first-floor infusion room with only one doctor and one nurse. When the trouble started in there, young Wallace and Cynthia arrived right away. I don’t think they had a chance to injure any other patients."

Flora Bloom nodded. "That’s a relief." She turned to Neal Wallace. "Mr. Wallace, take care of the elder. I have to go deal with something else!"

It wasn’t that Flora Bloom was unwilling to explain; she was just afraid she was running out of time. The two charred-black monsters were clearly two of the seven injured people who had mutated.

’I never expected an injury from the black scorpion could create such powerful new zombies,’ she thought. ’It was hard enough just dealing with two.’

Her urgency came from two fears. First, that the other five would also mutate. Second, if they mutated and attacked others, the situation would spiral out of control. It would spread like wildfire. If all the new zombies were as powerful as the last two, the loss to the base would be immense.

"Crown Prince, Civet, let’s go! If those other five turn, the superpower users downstairs are in for a world of hurt! I have no idea what the mutation rate is for a superpower user bitten by one of these new zombies, or if they’d become just as strong!"

The three of them rushed outside the temporary hospital, but there was no sign of the five patients. What’s more, Cynthia Grant, Gavin Todd, and the others were also gone.

Instead, Hector Grant, Titan Adler, Liam Todd, and Simon were standing there, staring at her.

When the four men saw The Crown Prince and Civet behind Flora Bloom, their faces broke into smiles. "Flora Bloom, is it... dealt with inside?"

"It’s dealt with. Elder Grant and Mr. Wallace are still inside; they’ll be down in a minute. By the way, where are the five patients? And Cynthia and the others?"

At Flora Bloom’s question, the expressions of the Family Heads present turned awkward, a strange, shocked look in their eyes. It was Simon who finally answered. "They’ve all been taken into quarantine. Cynthia wasn’t supposed to go, but one of the five—I don’t know what got into him—suddenly lunged and bit her."

The color drained from Flora Bloom’s face. "What? He bit Cynthia Grant?"

"So, after discussing it, we decided it was best to quarantine all of them."

"Where are they? Take me to them!"

Just then, Vert swooped down from the sky, a trace of blood on its enormous sickles. "SKREE SKREE."

Vert had already relayed everything that just happened through its mental link with Flora Bloom, causing her expression to turn thunderous.

She whirled to face Hector Grant.

"She’s your own daughter! How could you do that to her? You’re not a fucking man! If anything happens to Cynthia Grant, I’ll kill you and make you join her in the grave!"

Startled by Flora Bloom’s outburst, Hector Grant’s own pompous temper flared.

"Who the hell do you think you are, talking to me like that? You must have a death wish, you damn brat!" Hector Grant suddenly glanced at the other men, a scheming smile curling on his lips as he spoke.

"Everyone, bear witness! This Flora Bloom here, her two attendants, and Neal Wallace and Robin Grant who are still inside—they’ve all just been in contact with mutated zombies! And the base has a clear rule: anyone returning from outside, or anyone who has come into contact with a zombie, must be quarantined, injured or not!"

A crowd of uninformed civilians and superpower users had gathered outside the temporary hospital. Upon hearing Hector Grant’s words, they all nervously scrambled back, keeping a wide berth.
