By the time Robin Grant and Neal Wallace arrived, only four corpses remained in the isolation room. There were four because Vert had already cut down the superpower user who’d tried to attack Hector Grant but hit Cynthia Grant instead.
Flora Bloom had ordered Vert to protect Cynthia Grant. Anyone who attacked Cynthia would be seen as an enemy, and Vert would retaliate.
The little pets in her space always executed Flora Bloom’s orders strictly and without question.
Flora Bloom sent Cynthia Grant directly back to Robin Grant’s residence. Gavin Todd was sent there as well.
Both of them were running a high fever.
To make caring for them easier, Cynthia Grant and Gavin Todd were placed in the same room.
Robin Grant gave them both a thorough examination, but aside from the unrelenting high fevers, he found nothing abnormal.
Flora Bloom had given them plenty of spiritual water, but there was still no improvement.
’Flora Bloom guessed that the two had been injured by a new type of zombie, and their antibodies were now fighting off a new virus. That must be why they haven’t woken up. But she couldn’t rule out the possibility that they might awaken new superpowers when they finally come to.’
’Especially Gavin Todd. He was already in the process of awakening a Thunder Ability. Now, unconscious and burning with fever, Flora Bloom could sense that the Thunder Element around him had grown much more active.’
While they were busy trying to save the two at Robin Grant’s residence, the base’s alarm system blared once again. From within the base, Flora Bloom could faintly hear a commotion outside. The ground trembled slightly, and an atmosphere of tension and fear permeated the entire base.
In the distance, she could even hear the RUSTLING sounds of crawling. ’All these signs point to one thing,’ Flora Bloom thought. ’Something deeply unsettling is happening at the base right now.’
By the time Simon, Titan Adler, and Liam Todd arrived at Robin Grant’s residence, the outside of the base was already surrounded by a horde of zombies.
They had originally come to find Robin Grant to treat their wounded. In the past, anyone injured by a zombie would have had to be isolated or executed on the spot.
But things were different now.
Gavin Todd wasn’t dead, just unconscious. Furthermore, their sources claimed the wound on his leg had already healed. If Robin Grant could spare these wounded from quarantine and lengthy treatment, they would have more superpower users to rotate into the fight against the zombie horde outside.
The three men were quite cunning. The moment they arrived, they demanded to visit Cynthia Grant. Since their negligence had led to her injury, their reason for visiting was irrefutable. This also gave them the perfect excuse to check on Gavin Todd.
When the three entered the room where Gavin Todd and Cynthia Grant lay unconscious, Titan Adler and Liam Todd’s attention was fixed on Gavin Todd. He had no wounds on his body; only his lower leg was wrapped in gauze.
Although the gauze was bloodstained, the blood was dried, and there was no metallic scent of it in the air.
Neither Gavin Todd nor Cynthia Grant had any visible wounds.
As far as they knew, Gavin Todd had been struck in the leg by one of the black scorpions and collapsed. Cynthia Grant, for her part, had taken a Fireball from that other superpower user and had even been bitten by him.
And they knew for a fact that the man who bit her had also been wounded by a black scorpion and was carrying the zombie virus.
Yet right now, the two were merely running a fever.
’This is fantastic!’ they thought. ’Just as the reports said, their wounds have healed. They aren’t turning—just running a fever.’
"What are you doing here?" Robin Grant disliked dealing with these people. ’In my eyes,’ he thought, ’these three are no different from that cruel and unscrupulous Hector Grant.’
"Dr. Grant, what happened to Cynthia was not what any of us wanted," Titan Adler said, his tone grave and earnest as he looked at Robin Grant. "Look, the base is facing a life-or-death crisis. A man like you can’t just stand on the sidelines!"
Robin Grant remained silent, his gaze fixed on Cynthia’s pale face. He then turned his back on the three men, whose visit was clearly more of a probe than a gesture of concern.
"Have you seen enough? You can leave now."
The three visitors—Titan Adler, Simon, and Liam Todd—had long since lost their former clean and respectable appearances. The stench of dust and decay seemed to have seeped into the very fabric of their clothes, a foul odor they’d brought back into the base.
They looked as if they had just crawled out of a pile of zombies.
"Sir, you’re the head of medical affairs for the Argent Base. The base is surrounded by a massive horde of zombies, and many of our superpower users are wounded. You can’t just abandon them!"
Hearing this, Robin Grant finally understood why they had really come. He wasn’t the only one stunned by the news; Flora Bloom was equally shocked.
’The Argent Base... surrounded by zombies?’
’In my memory, the Argent Base has the best defenses in the entire country. Even if it’s surrounded now, it shouldn’t be enough to deal it a devastating blow.’
