"What’s this about books and I not being fated? What do you mean, ’only those who yearn for peace can read’?" Wu Tian asked, his face filled with frustration as he let out a dry laugh. Doesn’t he yearn for peace? Many times, it was others who were courting death when they sought him out. He had never actively tried to harm anyone.
"Are you sure you’re not letting me in?" Wu Tian asked coldly, as if he would take the man’s life the moment he said yes.
Mr. Six Paths snorted. Mystic Libraries were spread throughout the world. Although few, each one was extremely precious. They were all created by Emperor Xuan, and in these major domains, the Wave Chaser was the only one. What could Wu Tian possibly do to it?
Just as Mr. Six Paths was about to speak, a sudden patter of footsteps sounded, followed by a clear, elegant voice asking, "May I come in to read?"
The voice was enchanting and all too familiar to Wu Tian and the little one. They turned around and saw Ye Qingxian. Wu Tian hadn’t expected to see her again. She was still dressed in a tight white garment that emphasized her exquisite, voluptuous figure. She looked absolutely stunning, with a beautiful face and a sublime, breathtaking demeanor.
"You... you... of course! Go right in and read... Read for as long... as long as you want! It’s no problem," Mr. Six Paths stammered, completely enraptured by the stunning beauty before him.
At this moment, Ye Qingxian had reached the first rank of the Heavenly King Realm. She had fashioned the Element of Wind into a sash wrapped around her waist, making her every movement utterly captivating.
"Thank you." After speaking, Ye Qingxian started to enter but paused when she noticed Wu Tian and the little one. She always found it strange. Whenever she saw Wu Tian, her calm heart would begin to race, like a startled deer. It felt as if it wasn’t she who liked Wu Tian, but her heart itself. Because of this, she had kept herself aware of everything happening around him lately. His strength was unfathomable. Ye Qingxian was intensely curious. Who exactly was this Wu Tian? How could he possess such strength? And where did he get the courage to kill one of the Divine Emperor’s Law Enforcers?
"Hey, if she can go in, why can’t we?" the little one demanded angrily. "We’re people too! Why is the difference in treatment so huge?"
"First, you’re still too young," Mr. Six Paths sighed, glancing at the little one’s extremely cute appearance. What a pity, so young. "Second, she is going in to actually read. But what are you two going in for? A child and a mass murderer—are you really going to read? Would you even know how?"
"Of course I know how to read, why wouldn’t I?" the little one argued. "Can’t you stop judging people by their appearance?"
"Judging you by your appearance? I am speaking based on facts," Mr. Six Paths said, his expression souring. A mass murderer? Would someone like that understand books? Books give off a feeling of tranquility, while a mass murderer exudes an aura of brutality. He didn’t believe for a second that a killer could calm his heart enough to read.
Seeing that Wu Tian seemed ready to strike, Ye Qingxian immediately spoke up. "Mr. Six Paths," she began, a slight smile on her face and her voice as melodious as an oriole’s song. "Please, for my sake, could you let them in?"
Mr. Six Paths, a man in his seventies or eighties, felt his old heart stir. "Fine. For... for your... your sake... I’ll let them in," he said, waving his hand to grant them entry.
Wu Tian merely chuckled. He felt no gratitude. If Ye Qingxian hadn’t spoken up when she did, he would have already settled the matter with a single punch. Holding the little one, he walked into the Wave Chaser Mystic Library.
Ye Qingxian was slightly stunned. Huh? She had spoken up for him, so she’d expected at least a word of thanks. But he just walked straight in without a second glance? Not a single word for her? But being naturally aloof, she said nothing more and followed him into the Mystic Library.
"Uh... let me... let me choose some books for you... Yes, I’ll pick them out for you." Despite his advanced age and his white hair and beard, Mr. Six Paths shamelessly tagged along after Ye Qingxian.
Standing before a bookshelf, Wu Tian wasn’t in a hurry to read. Instead, his first impression was that a fish rots from the head down. If Mr. Six Paths is like this, then what about Emperor Xuan? Could he possibly be a good person? Never mind. I’ll have to find Emperor Xuan one day to avenge the Dao Emperor. For now... I need to write a book.
Before he began writing, however, he first needed to understand how the Wave Chaser Mystic Library operated. He took a tour of the library, which held a vast number of books categorized into sections: Martial Arts Techniques, mental methods, literature, and so on. On the second floor, numerous authors were hard at work composing their own books. The authors of Martial Arts Techniques, for instance, didn’t seem to care whether their techniques were actually usable. As long as the writing felt satisfying and sounded powerful, that was enough. Wu Tian glanced through one such book and concluded that following its method of cultivation would likely drive him insane.
Perhaps the Mystic Library was founded on the principle of striving for excellence. But after Emperor Xuan became an Immortal Emperor, he stopped caring about it, indifferent to whether it had already started to decay. There were many books here, but not a single one was what he needed.
"Dad, what do we do?" the little one asked.
Wu Tian chuckled. "In that case, I’ll just have to write one myself."
"Ah!" The little one was flabbergasted.
Using a blank book and ink, Wu Tian began to write his own manuscript.
*Nine Mysteries*!
This was a Dharma that Wu Tian had obtained in one of the worlds within All Heavens, which he passed through on his journey from the Immortal Emperor Realm back to Earth. The Nine Mysteries consisted of nine True Words: "Approach," "Soldier," "Fight," "Those," "All," "Number," "Array," "Front," and "Proceed."
Wu Tian began to write. As the saying goes, the stroke of a pen can call forth wind and rain, and a finished poem can make ghosts and gods weep.
Just as he was halfway through writing "Approach," the first of the Nine Mysteries, the world outside the Mystic Library erupted. Lightning flashed, thunder roared, and black clouds spilled across the sky like ink, creating an extremely eerie atmosphere. The very air between heaven and earth grew heavy with solemn pressure. Every living being under the firmament sensed that something extraordinary was about to happen. One by one, the Great Spiritualists used their secret techniques to divine the cause, but they could find nothing. No one connected this phenomenon to Wu Tian.
While trailing Ye Qingxian, Mr. Six Paths had also been keeping an eye on Wu Tian. Seeing him ignore the library’s collection to write his own book, he sneered. "What is he doing? Writing a book? How could he?"
Could a book he writes possibly be better than those of our authors? There are so many books here to choose from, yet he ignores them and chooses to write his own! How arrogant. Is he just putting on an act to attract Miss Ye Qingxian’s attention? Yes, that must be it. Assuming that everyone fancied Ye Qingxian just as he did, Mr. Six Paths’ expression turned ugly. Enraged, he decided to cause some trouble for Wu Tian.
