Chapter 542 - 538: No Money, Too Bitter

Chen Xiumin had just been speaking her mind. Now that she’d said it, she felt much better.

"Alright, go take the rice cakes to Jiaojiao and the others!"

Chen Xiaoli nodded, picked up the rice cakes, and left.

She took the main road and didn’t expect to run right into Yun Hao.

The two of them felt a bit awkward upon seeing each other.

Yun Hao had been forced into the marriage. He hadn’t even made the traditional three-day visit back to the bride’s home, which made it clear he wanted nothing to do with them.

But she was Xu Wenwan’s sister-in-law, so she didn’t have any major conflict with Yun Hao herself.

However, since she had already cut ties with Xu Wenwan, she naturally wouldn’t acknowledge Yun Hao. Chen Xiaoli walked right past him without a single glance.

Yun Hao noticed the basket Chen Xiaoli was carrying. It looked like it was filled with food. He thought it was for his family, but to his surprise, Chen Xiaoli walked straight past.

Yun Hao...

He watched Chen Xiaoli leave the village entrance and head toward the foot of the mountain. It was all too clear now.

’She’s taking things to Gu Jiaojiao and Leng Yuan.’

He was the Xu Family’s son-in-law, yet they’d rather give things to Leng Yuan than to him. ’Just great.’

The Xu Family couldn’t possibly be unaware of the friction between him and Leng Yuan. Now, Chen Xiaoli was delivering things to Leng Yuan’s house right in front of him. It was a slap in the face.

The Xu Family had forced him to marry, and now they were trampling all over his dignity.

’Just you wait!’

’Once I become a teacher at the commune and the Xu Family comes sucking up to me, I absolutely won’t give them the time of day.’

There’s a saying: "birds of a feather flock together." And you had to admit, in some ways, Yun Hao was just as self-confident as Xu Wenwan.

Fuming, Yun Hao stormed into his house, only to be greeted by the sight of a messy courtyard.

Yun Hao wasn’t naturally a lazy person, but Xu Wenwan was truly slothful. No matter whether Yun Hao was busy or not, Xu Wenwan would never take the initiative to do any housework.

Over time, Yun Hao grew resentful and stopped cleaning up as well.

Now, with the end of the year approaching, other families had cleaned their courtyards spotless, and the air was filled with the aroma of various fruits and rice cakes. His home, however, was desolate and cheerless.

Yun Hao’s anger boiled over. He strode to Xu Wenwan’s door and kicked it open.

Xu Wenwan was instantly startled awake.

"What’s wrong? What happened?"

Yun Hao exploded. "You have the nerve to sleep? Look at the time! Other families are already preparing for the New Year, and you’re just lazy as hell."

The scolding snapped Xu Wenwan out of her daze. Her father had slapped her earlier, and feeling wronged, she had returned to her room to cry. She must have cried herself to sleep.

She had slept all the way until the afternoon.

Yun Hao had gone to the County Town to mail a letter, and the moment he got back, he started losing his temper. Xu Wenwan felt wronged, too.

"You don’t do anything yourself, so what right do you have to tell me what to do? Besides, there’s nothing in this house. What am I supposed to make?"

"You’re the one who’s useless, yet you blame me for being lazy. You’re sick in the head."

Yun Hao was broke; he couldn’t even afford to buy meat. In their situation, preparing New Year’s goods was nothing but a dream.

Yun Hao was instantly choked speechless.

He had gone to the County Town to mail a letter hoping his parents would send some money. This past month, he had experienced what it was like to be penniless, and it was pure misery.

And the reason he was living this kind of life was all because of Xu Wenwan.

Yun Hao’s anger flared again. "You’re a jinx! If it weren’t for marrying you, would I have been reduced to not even being able to afford meat?"

Yun Hao was angry, but Xu Wenwan was even angrier.

"I think you’re the jinx! Ever since I married you, my luck has been terrible."

My face soap business was doing just fine, but it all disappeared after we got married.

And Mr. Jiu had tried to humiliate her, so she drained his good fortune. She hadn’t considered the consequences at the time. Thinking about it now, she realized it was tantamount to cutting off her own path to wealth.
