Chapter 285: Whispers from the Forest

Adams moved through the outer layers of the Forbidden Forest with the effortless grace of a being who owned every layer of existence. The ancient trees, their gnarled branches forming a thick canopy, stirred faintly as he passed. This was the same forest where his new life had begun — the place of his transmigration, his first awakening to the Omnipotent System, and the desperate flight with Anderson after the clan betrayal. Now, it felt like returning to an old stage, one that had grown far too small for the play he was directing.

He kept every System notification locked deep within his mind. No one — not even Anderson or the pantheon — would ever glimpse the private interface that had been his constant companion since the beginning. That secret was his alone.

**[Anomaly Type: Distorted Omni Echo. Caution: Mimicry and consumption capabilities confirmed. Recommendation: Utilize pantheon assets for layered response.]**

Adams allowed himself a quiet chuckle. "Still evolving, aren’t you? After granting me infinite skill points, infinite system points, infinite energy, and the full Omni-Shop from day one... now you’re handing out quests and recommendations. Bold move."

The System offered no verbal reply, only a subtle pulse of acknowledgment. It was adapting to the scale he now operated on. A welcome development after so many years of pure, unchallenged dominance.

The silver-haired figure waited in a small clearing where reality itself bent unnaturally. It was not Magnus. The resemblance was close — the same ancient poise, the galaxy-like eyes — but the details were wrong. The smile carried hunger rather than poise. Stolen Omni energy crackled around its form like frayed, unstable threads.

"You came," the echo said, its voice layered with multiple resonances. "Adams Albert. The one who transcends even the Omni. The one who refused their seat."

Adams stopped a short distance away, hands casually tucked into his pockets, black hair stirring in the forest breeze. "You’ve been busy wearing faces that don’t belong to you. Consuming pieces of weaker universes. Probing branches connected to mine. Why?"

The impersonator tilted its head, the stolen silver hair shifting unnaturally. "Because existence leaves gaps. Realities are forgotten. The Omni watch and maintain balance. You... you create your own. I am simply what remains when greater beings grow bored. The hunger left behind."

Adams’ golden eyes narrowed with mild interest. "Bold claim for something that retreats the moment I approach. The pantheon could have erased you already, but I wanted a closer look myself."

He extended his will subtly. Infinite energy brushed against the distortion, analyzing its structure without the slightest effort. The echo flickered, struggling to hold its borrowed form together. Trees around them groaned as reality reasserted itself under Adams’ command.

"You’re not a single being," Adams observed calmly. "Fragments. Pieced together from stolen signatures across multiple branches. Who created you? Or did you simply... congeal from the leftovers?"

The impersonator laughed, a sound that warped the surrounding foliage. Leaves withered and regrew in rapid cycles. "A question only you would ask so casually. I am the echo of abandoned potential. I take what the multiverse discards. And you, Adams... you are the ultimate prize. Infinite. Unbound. The one who stands above even those who claim to rule the higher layers."

Adams took another step forward. The space around the echo locked down completely. "Flattery mixed with threats. I’ve heard better. You’re drawn to the Core the other Kieran carries. To my sect. To the pantheon I’ve elevated. You’re probing for weaknesses that don’t exist."

The figure staggered as Adams’ presence pressed down. Its stolen Omni aura frayed further. "You could end me right now," it hissed. "Yet you hesitate. Why? Boredom? Curiosity?"

"Because entertainment is rare," Adams replied honestly, his tone light. "And because crushing the first messenger rarely reveals the full picture. Tell whatever core consciousness is directing you this: the game now has rules. My rules."

With a casual wave of his hand, he shattered the echo’s current form. It dissolved into motes of stolen energy, screaming as it was forcibly dispersed. A final whisper lingered in the air like fading smoke.

"We will meet again... when the hunger grows stronger..."

Adams stood alone in the now-stabilized clearing. The Forbidden Forest grew quiet once more, as if acknowledging the return of its master. He exhaled slowly, letting the weight of eternity settle lightly on his shoulders.

"Getting more talkative by the minute," he murmured to the System. "I could get used to this."

By the time he returned to the sect, Anderson was waiting near the central plaza. Crimson hair caught the light as he approached. "Adams," he greeted, using the familiar name that had defined their bond since the beginning. "The pantheon reported a brief spike near the Forest. Everything under control?"

"Handled," Adams replied, placing a hand on Anderson’s shoulder and sending a subtle wave of reinforcing energy through him. "It was a probe. The impersonator is testing boundaries. Inform Jack to keep the pantheon alert but focused on defense for now. The Horsemen and J’s are ready if it escalates."

Anderson nodded. "Understood. The sect remains strong because of you — and the pantheon you’ve built. We won’t let anything slip through."

In the luxurious pavilion nestled among spiritual gardens, Mabel, Inara, and Akira waited. The three women rose as he entered, their presences warm and grounding.

"You’ve been gone longer than expected," Mabel said gently, stepping close to brush invisible dust from his clothes. "The sect felt the shift. So did we."

Inara smirked, though concern lingered in her eyes. "Another multiversal visitor? You always return with that intrigued expression."

Akira slipped her hand into his. "Tell us everything. We’re part of this world you’ve created."

Adams drew them into a warm embrace, channeling gentle infusions of energy to further strengthen their foundations. He shared the encounter with the echo while keeping every System detail locked away. Their questions were sharp, their support unwavering.

"You allowed it to deliver its message?" Mabel asked thoughtfully.

"On purpose," Adams confirmed. "Better to watch where the threads lead than destroy the first scout. The pantheon gives us flexibility the impersonator doesn’t expect."

Jack arrived shortly after, nodding respectfully. "Adams, the team is ready. We can reinforce any weak points immediately."

"Good," Adams said. "Stay sharp. The pantheon is one of our greatest strengths. Use it wisely."

As night fell, Adams stood once more atop the highest peak with Anderson. The stars he had arranged twinkled overhead. Below, the sect and pantheon continued their vigilant watch.

"This feels more personal than past threats," Anderson noted. "Tied to your origins here in the Forest."

Adams nodded. "It is. But with the pantheon strong, the sect thriving, and this new game unfolding... boredom doesn’t have quite the same hold."

A faint pulse from the Core reached him across planes — Kieran and Arianna handling their side. He sent a light mental nudge of guidance.

The impersonator had retreated for now, but the true source — whatever lay at the multiversal nexus — was watching. Adams smiled faintly into the night.

The omniverse was vast. But under him, with his pantheon and his people, it was also undeniably ’his’.
