Caiden Ward stood by the bed looking at her, only to feel heartache.
After a moment, he leaned down and gently patted her face twice, softly calling, "Maeve?"
"Hey." Ari Murphy immediately wanted to stop him.
Seeing it was already eleven, and she had just fallen asleep with great difficulty, waking her up wouldn’t be good.
Unexpectedly, Maeve Myres, in her drowsy state, upon hearing his call, instinctively let go of the plush bear, turned over, and hugged his arm, rubbing her cheek against it in a coquettish manner.
Caiden Ward laughed and sat down on the edge of the bed.
Ari Murphy: "..."
This person, he said he was just going to take a look, but he seemed unwilling to leave.
Caiden Ward didn’t really not want to leave; he just wanted to take Maeve with him. Sitting beside her, he thought for a moment and then directly picked Maeve up in his arms and stood up.
Maeve wasn’t heavy; it was easy for him to hold her.
Ari Murphy was taken aback and quickly said, "President Ward, this is inappropriate."
"There’s nothing inappropriate about it." Caiden Ward glanced at him, then looked over at George Davis, saying, "Bring the thin blanket."
"Okay." George Davis responded promptly.
Caiden Ward said no more, carrying Maeve directly out of the room.
His status was evident, and, despite Ari Murphy’s frustration, he had no way to stop him, following them down the stairs with a helpless expression.
Louis Cox was sitting on the sofa, smoking. Seeing him come down, he was just about to stand up when his eyes fell on what was in his arms. In a daze, he put out the cigarette and said with a stiff face, "What is the meaning of this, President Ward?"
"She has class tomorrow, and all her school supplies are at my place. It’s inconvenient for her to stay here." Caiden Ward found a legitimate reason.
Louis was stunned and couldn’t refute it for a moment.
Caiden Ward looked at him and continued, "She came back in a bad mood today, I’m worried, so I have to ask her tomorrow. There’s no rush to return to the Myres Mansion, as there’s a lot to pack. Let’s talk about it this weekend."
His voice was calm, and he spoke in a gentle manner, with a consultative tone.
Louis glanced at Maeve in his arms. After a while, he could only nod, "We’ll trouble you for a few days then, I’m sorry for the inconvenience."
"No need to be polite." Caiden Ward smiled, "It’s late, so I won’t stay any longer."
He glanced at George Davis, who promptly stepped forward to cover Maeve with the thin blanket, then followed him out of the Myres Family hall.
"Louis." Ari Murphy watched the two of them leave, saying with a bit of helplessness.
Louis Cox also stood there watching their backs, his expression changing a bit, and he said softly, "It’s fine. Just do as he said, and bring Maeve back this weekend."
"Alright." Ari Murphy nodded.
——
Outside the Myres Mansion.
George Davis turned the car around and parked it next to Caiden Ward, then got out to open the car door.
Caiden Ward sat into the car sideways, letting out a sigh of relief.
Carried out by him all the way, Maeve, covered with a blanket but with her face exposed, was brushed by a breeze and woke up groggily, only to face Caiden Ward’s young and handsome face.
Her large eyes still held some confusion, and she furrowed her brows, "Uncle Ward?"
"Mm." Caiden Ward looked down at her, smiling gently, "Awake? Does lying like this feel uncomfortable?"
"Why am I?" Maeve lifted her eyes, looking around, feeling more frustrated as she grabbed her hair, "I remember sleeping at home. What’s happening now? Am I dreaming?"
Her last note was soft, filled with doubt, making Caiden Ward unable to resist laughing, "Just dreaming."
