Chapter 1055 - 1082: Decent Family Education (8)

The editorial tasks are hectic, with countless QQ chat windows open on the computer every day, along with numerous other software programs. When busy, it’s easy to accidentally send a message to the wrong person.

Mia Ginger also knew they had several private groups, mainly for venting about the bosses.

It’s evident this complaint was aimed at Reagon Chapman.

Reagon had just sat down when she saw such a message; her face darkened as she understood it.

Having been a reporter for years, she’s never been one to fit in, with a hard-to-talk-to temper that’s prone to offend others. She knew there were people cursing her behind her back, but she never cared much—until now—as anger flared up.

With nowhere to vent, Reagon glanced at Mia.

She’s always disliked Mia, partly because of Dallas Taylor, feeling guilty, assuming Mia had been talking about her behind her back. Hence, when other groups inquired, she casually explained a few things to exonerate herself.

Upon seeing that sentence, her instinct was that Mia was stirring up trouble behind her back, yet she had no way to tackle it.

She could only suffer in silence.

Some things become more complicated with explanation, the more you try to reason, the more it appears as if you’re grasping at straws.

Jay Lee’s words just now were quite accusatory towards her; not only can’t she argue, but she also has to show some magnanimity temporarily. Reagon took a deep breath before speaking, "Mia Ginger."

Mia looked at her unexpectedly and walked over.

Reagon’s face was still a bit stiff, she suggested, "I heard from Director Lee that you’re leaving, how about this, after work let’s have dinner with our group as a farewell party?"

"Ah?" Mia was caught off guard and stunned.

Approaching the end of the work day, it was rare for her to invite people for a gathering, everyone around was also taken aback.

Mia quickly came to her senses and apologized, "I’m afraid I can’t. I’ve already made plans with others for a party tonight."

"A party?" Reagon chuckled rarely, "Really?"

"..." Mia was momentarily speechless, looking at her without saying anything.

Reagon thought for a moment, then said lightly, "Alright, if you don’t want to go, forget it. It’s past four, pack up and prepare to leave."

"Hmm." Mia didn’t want to continue talking with her, turned, and walked away.

While speaking, Reagon had a hint of reconciliation, aiming to show her magnanimity, yet subtly taking a jab at Mia for being small-minded. Mia didn’t bother arguing. Some people always think they’re right, and arguing doesn’t hold much meaning, only adds to the frustration.

Sunshining Network has a double weekend policy, so when Friday comes, everyone is more eager to leave work than usual.

Once it hit five o’clock, most of the office zone rose directly from their seats, shutting down computers, grabbing coats and bags, leaving in a smooth manner.

Thinking about soon meeting Koa Jackson, Mia packed up her belongings with a bitter expression, feeling embarrassed for quitting her internship after just one week. What would Koa Jackson think if he found out?

She couldn’t quite imagine.

Mia reached the elevator area with her backpack, surrounded by familiar colleagues from her team, heading down together.

After exiting the elevator, Reagon was still chit-chatting, discussing where to have dinner with everyone.

After all—

She’s been here for a while and hasn’t organized a gathering yet.

Just as Mia didn’t go, she casually invited the others, giving off a bit of a matronly vibe.

Mia only felt childish, glancing at her indifferently.

Reagon happened to look at her too, asking, "Where are you having your gathering? Share the location, maybe we can go there too, you’re driving right? You could take a few people, it’s so muggy, we might as well spare them the wait for the bus."

"..." Mia paused, "I called for a driving service, I won’t be driving."

"Drinking, huh?" Reagon looked at her, still sounding condescending, "So young, drinking is bad for health, especially for girls. One must be careful during gatherings."

Mia was somewhat impatient, "You’re overthinking it, someone is just picking me up."

"A friend, where is this friend?" Reagon chuckled and, raising her eyes, her smile faded.

Without yet turning her head, Mia felt a long, attractive hand on her shoulder. Koa Jackson took her bag in his hand, frowning at her, "Been waiting outside for quite a while, why are you dawdling after work?"

"Oh." Mia instinctively looked up to meet his overly handsome face, asking, "You’re here already?"

"Been here since four-thirty." Koa Jackson smiled and turned to face the group frozen in place.

Tall in stature, he looked down on people naturally, giving off a sense of superiority without trying, especially with his calm demeanor and good background, embodying an air of nobility others can’t match. As he looked at Reagon with furrowed brows, the group beside him inexplicably felt tense. Reagon obviously knew him, but hadn’t anticipated Mia meeting him, leaving her momentarily unable to react, her face looking rather unpleasant.

Koa Jackson, with his fingers hooked around Mia’s bag, held her shoulder, seemed to think briefly, before speaking with a cool expression, "Are you this girl’s colleague? Thanks for the concern, but my family is reasonably educated, it’s unlikely to get in trouble at a gathering."

"..." The group’s gaze fell on Reagon, slightly suppressing laughter.

Koa Jackson’s words were a double entendre, one indicating his measured behavior and the other obviously protecting Mia. She’s an adult—knows when to drink, when not to—is it really necessary for another’s intervention?

It’s quite comical, indeed.
