Chapter 992 - 1019: Old Wounds Reopened (5)

"Huh?"

The old man looked at her in astonishment, as did the few people around him.

Lydia smiled and said, "Let bygones be bygones. What good would it do for you to see them again? It would only add to your sorrow."

"Mom, you’ve misunderstood." Mia glanced at her and explained to the old man, "Back then, when the incident happened, just because she was dressed a bit lightly, it caused an uproar online, saying she lacked decency. Everyone was criticizing her, including journalists. Later, when the truth came out, those netizens apologized. You know I’m studying journalism and planning to become a journalist. I feel that although society has developed and the internet is widely used, people have become more restless. Especially in terms of news and public opinion, there’s a lot of blind following. Both the media and the public should take this as a warning. I have a friend who’s quite concerned about this phenomenon too, and he’s planning to address this issue for his graduation thesis. He might interview many people involved in the hot online events of the past two years. I just thought of this case, considering it quite typical, and mentioned it to him. He might go further to understand the situation then, and there’s also the case of Zuri Ginger writing a book. But you know, this work is quite tough; to seek truthfulness, one must have firsthand information. He doesn’t have many connections in Cloud Capital, so I thought I’d help him. We might meet those criminals too."

After Mia finished speaking, she looked up and glanced at Lydia.

Lydia happened to be looking at her too, her expression calm but not particularly pleasant.

What is Mia planning?

How long has it been since Zoey Leaf’s incident, and she wants to bring it up again?

Is she targeting me?

Lydia frowned, looking at her clear, dark eyes, and felt that maybe she was overthinking.

This matter was done in secrecy. Those criminals even got paid; there shouldn’t be any more slip-ups. Yet Mia’s words made her eyelids twitch uncontrollably.

Lydia’s mind raced, but she remained silent.

Mia glanced again at Marianne Jackson.

Marianne had somehow already sat down, holding a cup on the coffee table while drinking tea, quietly yet her knuckles tightly gripping the cup, appearing tense and distracted.

Mia then retracted her gaze.

Back when she was just a freshman, she felt powerless to change anything.

But now—

The deeper she thought, the more she realized it’s not impossible to uncover the truth.

Zuri knew, Marianne knew, Lydia knew. Whoever spent the money and hired the criminals, the flow of finances must have traces; those criminals couldn’t be completely flawless. It’s just a matter of time.

Given time, she would definitely be able to bring Lydia to justice.

She also had to thank Camden River for this.

She could use the opportunity of Camden’s graduation thesis to borrow some of Aiden Jiang’s connections, to openly learn about the past events. In the meantime, she could rattle Lydia, to observe if she makes any moves.

Mia took a sip from the teacup beside her, pondering silently.

Her delicate, fair face was small and meticulous, her head slightly lowered, drinking tea tranquilly with an air of calm composure.

Lydia looked at her, frowning even more tightly.

Initially, she just found Mia annoying. This girl had a stubborn, troublesome temperament that was hard to pin down. Two years later, Mia now seemed more formidable, appearing more calm and composed, making Lydia find her harder to figure out.

Lost in thought, Lydia was suddenly startled by the ringtone of Mia’s phone.

Mia glanced at her phone; it was a text message.

Windsor Myres asked her, "Do you think if I secretly follow Camden River home today, would he be mad?"

Follow him home?

Mia was taken aback, replying, "Where are you?"

"At the airport."

Mia was a bit clueless for a moment, after thinking briefly, helplessly replied, "I don’t know about that."

"Alright then, I’m just a bit nervous. Never mind, you go on with your work, I’ll decide for myself." Windsor replied with quite a lengthy text.

Mia looked at it for a moment longer but didn’t reply.

——

At this moment, Cloud Capital Airport.

Windsor Myres put away her phone and paced back and forth in the hall.

She had actually already bought her ticket before seeing Camden off.

Still hesitating.

She had never been to Camden’s hometown. In fact, during the winter break of her freshman year, she wanted to visit and see the place where Camden grew up. This thought was reignited last night by Cherry Lewis.

Camden’s parents are both university professors, well-known in their field, so they are considered to have a decent family background.

Yet—

Their hometown is just a second-tier city.

She was quite curious about what Camden’s home was like, and what his parents were like?

She needed to understand this to know what to do next.

She knew Cherry’s temperament; once she made up her mind, she rarely changed it, especially since she’s one of those shrewd people despite not having a high education. She’s already blatantly expressed her dislike for Camden, and would certainly try various ways to hinder Windsor and Camden’s relationship.

This was the crux of the problem.

She couldn’t recklessly sever ties with her mom because she was broke.

If Cherry wanted to deal with her, all she had to do was freeze all of Windsor’s bank cards, which would be simple. Windsor had to find a way.

Getting married to settle this seemed impractical; Camden likely wouldn’t marry her in secret without telling his family. So, she had to try to go to their home first, seize the moment while he’s still hesitating, and win over his parents. Once that’s done?

With these thoughts, Windsor threw away her earlier concerns and boarded the plane.
