"There’s something off about this place."
I didn’t need to say this as Yun Tian said it before me.
We had followed the group that had been sent to clear out the camp in storming the camp and we had found the Abyss Demons that were there. It was just that as we were fighting the Abyss Demons, Yun Tian and I both felt that something was off.
It wasn’t the same for the others that were still fighting the Abyss Demons, but then again it wasn’t as if they were that sensitive to these things in the first place.
I moved closer to Yun Tian and said, "You felt it too, huh?"
Yun Tian gave a nod before saying, "They’re not as...strong. However, they are resistant..."
He had to take a moment to figure out what he wanted to say since it was a strange thing to say, but he was able to piece together the words in the end.
I gave a nod to show that I agreed with him before looking at the Abyss Demons that were around us.
There were very few casualties in this fight, but that wasn’t because of anything that we did. It was more that the Abyss Demons didn’t have the same lethality that normal Abyss Demons had.
But in return for losing this lethality, it seemed like there was some kind of resilience buff that was cast on them. It made the Abyss Demons much harder to defeat compared to normal.
"They’re stalling for time."
That was the only conclusion that anyone could come up with when they saw the way that the Abyss Demons were acting. It was just that they didn’t know what the reason behind the stalling was.
Or at least those that didn’t know about the underground tunnel had no idea.
Yun Tian and I immediately came to the same conclusion that they were going to attack soon with the tunnel, which was why the Abyss Demons here were stalling.
"But they shouldn’t have made enough progress to attack yet."
"It doesn’t matter, we have to go back."
The problem was that if we went back by abandoning the other Abyss Guards that had been sent, then it would be bad down the line for us since this could be used against us.
"I’ll go all out." Yun Tian said in a heavy voice.
I didn’t say anything, but the way that I looked at him made it clear what I was thinking.
Yun Tian certainly wasn’t weak so it wasn’t as if I was worried that he wouldn’t be able to take care of these Abyss Demons. It was just that losing him when we were supposed to face a bunch more Abyss Demons...
This wouldn’t be a good trade off.
"They’ll be more effective in dealing with the Abyss Demons, this is a considerable amount of armed force that we’ll be losing if we just leave them be."
Yun Tian seemed convinced that this was the case, but I didn’t think the same.
However, it wasn’t as if we were in a relationship where I would be able to command Yun Tian. If this was what he thought was the right move, then there was nothing that I could do to stop him.
So I just stood back and watched as Yun Tian suddenly started attacking the Abyss Demons.
Yun Tian’s ability really was perfectly designed for dealing with these Abyss Demons.
Even if the Abyss Demons were more resilient compared to normal Abyss Demons, they couldn’t stop the invisible attacks that Yun Tian used. It showed that they had to brace themselves to use this resilience.
They were just normal Abyss Demons, but they had obtained something that would let them instantly become harder.
It didn’t take long before the Abyss Demons realized that this wasn’t something that they could guard against, but it didn’t seem like it mattered to them. They went all out as if the only thing that mattered to them now was holding us back.
It seemed like they were planning on sacrificing their lives just to make sure that we couldn’t leave.
When they started doing this, it made it clear to the other Abyss Guards what the Abyss Demons were doing. Which was why they started working with Yun Tian to distract the Abyss Demons while he finished them off.
At least it didn’t take as long as we thought to take down the Abyss Demons.
Only it certainly was quite a bit of effort that was spent to deal with them.
When the Abyss Guards gathered around us, Yun Tian said in a firm voice, "We need to go back, now."
The ’now’ was said with such conviction that it was hard for anyone to refute it.
But in the first place it seemed like everyone was already planning on listening to Yun Tian with the way that they looked at him. The way that he had stepped up to take care of the Abyss Demons was something that everyone was grateful for.
He had stepped in to help them out of an annoying situation.
Which was why they were willing to listen to him now.
"I guess this is the other benefit of stepping up at this time." I thought to myself when I saw this.
After everyone gathered under Yun Tian like this, it didn’t take long for us to group up and head back to base camp.
Though while this was happening, I could notice that there were a few people that seemed to be lagging behind.
It wasn’t that they were injured in the fight, it seemed like they were plotting something with how they lingered.
It was clear that they knew something about this raid on the Abyss Demons.
This was the third benefit of Yun Tian acting up like this.
He had disturbed their plans, so they were forced to think of different ways to make up for this.
Though it wasn’t as if we were going to let them do that.
