"What about her? Is she a sex demon as well? A Succubus?"
Naomi guessed.
Lucian and Evelyn looked at each other for a moment, then Evelyn shook her head.
"I am not, I too was a normal human before."
"Then how did you..."
Evelyn smiled, then she briefly told her about everything that had happened to her and what had changed. She didn’t give her all the details, and Naomi did not pry further either.
She did, however, ask one more question.
"Why are you telling me all this?"
It was glaringly obvious that Evelyn had feelings for Lucian. Naomi saw how possessive Evelyn was during the party, then...
Why tell her all this?
Why not let her keep believing Lucian was avoiding her?
Wouldn’t that benefit her more?
"Because I choose you."
Evelyn, however, had an answer to her question. An answer that surprised even Lucian.
"You... choose me?"
Naomi frowned.
"For what?"
Evelyn glanced at Lucian for a moment, then her gaze returned to Naomi—
"He is an Incubus. A Demon who constantly needs sex to keep a clear head."
"Right."
Naomi nodded.
She remembered seeing the state Lucian was in that day and how much he changed after they had sex.
Evelyn nodded as well, then—
"But one woman alone won’t be enough."
She revealed the truth.
"What...?"
Naomi’s expression changed.
"He is an Incubus who keeps growing stronger. The stronger he becomes, the more hungry he will be. One woman won’t be able to keep up with his physical needs, he will need more."
And Evelyn wasn’t saying it randomly.
She had a complete conversation with Vivienne.
The woman told her about how, even with her special body that naturally gathered Energy of Desire, she still wouldn’t be enough since she could not store that Energy.
Sure, while she sang, Lucian wouldn’t lack demonic energy, but Evelyn could not keep singing in front of a loud audience without stopping, and she definitely could not have sex with Lucian every single day.
So she alone wouldn’t be enough.
Lucian would need more partners and Evelyn—
Since she knew she couldn’t stop that, especially since Lucian’s survival depended on it, she decided to control that number instead.
She would gather women Lucian would choose from.
And Naomi—
"I may stop others, but you are someone who has been with Lucian since the beginning. You were friends, you knew Lucian even before it all began, you aren’t just attracted to the image he has now, you are attracted to who Lucian actually is.
In fact, in some ways, your love is purer than mine and I am not afraid of admitting it.
So if more women will be around him anyway, I’d rather it be someone like you than anyone else."
Evelyn explained her thoughts.
"Of course, in the end, whether you want to involve yourself in this mess or not, that decision is entirely yours."
Naomi fell silent for a moment, then she turned towards Lucian and—
"And you were going to tell me all this when exactly?"
She narrowed her eyes.
"..."
Lucian did not answer.
And Naomi’s mouth twitched—
"So you are telling me, you found out our world has actual Demons, Vampires, Werewolves, everything we ever dreamed of, and you didn’t bother to tell me?"
The geek inside Naomi was offended.
"This is not a joke, Naomi."
Lucian spoke with a serious look on his face and Naomi—
"I know."
She spoke in a tone devoid of any amusement. She wasn’t taking it like a joke, she was only trying to keep herself calm. Her mind had already formed a connection.
If the day she first saw Lucian in that state was the second day after he became an Incubus, then that would mean he became an Incubus on the day his parents were murdered.
Naomi wasn’t a fool.
She could tell his parents’ deaths weren’t just the result of a random unknown intruder breaking into his home, they were something related to the supernatural world that this organisation Lucian worked for had covered up.
"I thought we were closer than that."
Naomi lowered her voice. Her heart felt heavier now that she knew the true extent of what Lucian had been through.
For a moment, Lucian looked at her in silence and then—
"I was trying to protect you."
"Protect me how?"
Naomi asked instantly.
"I do not want my enemies to target you."
And Lucian had the answer prepared.
Though he wasn’t as ready as he thought.
"You were worried they would target me to get to you?"
"Yes."
"I am your childhood friend, Lucian. Even if we had drifted apart, after your parents, I am the closest thing to a friend you have. If your ’enemies’ think of targeting someone—
I will be one of the very few people who make the list. That won’t change if you suddenly stop talking to me.
In fact, that would draw even more attention."
"I..."
Lucian didn’t know how to say it.
He wasn’t worried about the demons attacking her the way she was right now. They probably wouldn’t since they did not consider her important enough, that, however, would change when the two of them got... even closer.
If they got into a relationship.
Which, considering how things were going between them, was very likely.
Naomi stared at Lucian. She noticed his hesitation and while she did not know what exactly he was thinking, her mind did come up with another solution.
"Help me."
Lucian frowned.
"You want me to be safe, correct?
You know I’ll never be safe with the way you are handling it. If your enemies do decide to target me, I am done for.
So instead of trying to keep me away—
Help me gain powers as well."
She demanded, surprising both Lucian and Evelyn.
"It’s... not that easy."
Lucian shook his head.
"Why?"
Naomi frowned.
"Do you not have more blood that I can consume?"
"No."
Lucian shook his head.
"Then have a Vampire bite me and turn me into one. You must have Vampire friends, do you not? Let me meet one!"
"...I do not know any Vampires."
And that changed Naomi’s expression.
"Are you saying... you are a loner in this world too?"
