Chapter 369 - 207: Yang the Obstetrician, Part 2

This was all thanks to the professional knowledge taught by Song Chunfang, as well as the microscopic control over his body afforded by the Qi Cultivation Fifth Layer and the aid of his Magical Power.

"Hold on... Almost there... Push!"

Yang Qi used his Spirit Communication Technique to encourage the Lin She, guiding it to coordinate its efforts.

The stuck fawn was gradually shifted back into the proper position.

Sensing a glimmer of hope, the Lin She mustered what little strength it had recovered. Following Yang Qi’s guidance, its abdomen contracted sharply—

PLOP!

A small, wet Lin She, still covered in its amniotic sac, finally slid out.

"Success!"

Elated, Yang Qi quickly and carefully cleared the mucus from the fawn’s mouth and nose, then gently patted its back.

A faint but vigorous cry rang out. The little Lin She began to breathe, its limbs twitching weakly.

Yang Qi placed the fawn near its mother’s mouth.

The mother immediately extended her tongue, gently licking her child, her eyes filled with a maternal glow.

_Host has successfully assisted a Ten-mile Musk in giving birth, contributing to the proliferation of a Spirit Beast species. Reward: Beast Spirit Pill._

’I get a reward just for delivering a baby?’

’I helped Big Flower give birth before, and now I’ve helped this Lin She.’

’The system gave me a reward both times.’

’Does that mean I get a reward every time I help an animal give birth?’

’No, that can’t be it. It must be for delivering a _Spirit Beast_!’

He’d encountered plenty of stray dogs and cats, but not all of them were judged to be Spirit Beasts by the system, like Xiaojiu and Bai Wan.

_Untamed Ten-mile Musk mother and fawn detected. The Host may bring them back to the Sect for Contribution Points._

"..."

"Looks like I can moonlight as an ’obstetrician’ more often from now on."

Yang Qi mused as he stood up.

The immediate danger, however, was not over.

The three wolves were still circling on the periphery, their anxiety and greed heightened by the scent of the newborn.

In response, Yang Qi’s gaze hardened. He looked toward the three Gray Wolves, locking onto them from a distance.

He marshaled his Magical Power.

SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!

Three consecutive blasts of the Shocking God Technique!

Each one struck a Gray Wolf with perfect accuracy.

"AWOO~!"

The three wolves let out terrified howls, as if they were seeing a ferocious mother tiger roaring as it charged right at them.

Forgetting all about their prey, they tucked their tails between their legs and fled in a panic, vanishing into the dark forest without a backward glance.

Wolves were clever, but they weren’t human.

This one use of the Shocking God Technique would be seared into their minds, leaving them with a psychological trauma associated with any Lin She they saw in the future.

This was one of the reasons Yang Qi had chosen to use the Shocking God Technique to scare off the wolves.

With the three wolves gone, Yang Qi took out a Strengthening Pill, crushed it into a powder, and mixed it with a piece of Vitality Nutrient Cream. He then enveloped the mixture in Magical Power and delivered it to the mother Lin She’s mouth.

The mother Lin She happily lapped it up.

The medicinal power and nutrients quickly spread through her weak body. A warm energy began to repair the damage and restore her vitality. Her breathing steadied, and the light returned to her eyes.

Seeing the mother and fawn snuggling together as the little one began to nurse, Yang Qi breathed a sigh of relief.

He then turned to the Eagle Owl perched on a low-hanging branch nearby, which had been silently observing the entire event. A smile spread across his face.

"Hey, buddy. Thanks for coming to get me in time. But next time, try to get the name right."

"They’re Lin She, not long-horned deer," Yang Qi said, pointing to the mother and fawn.

"HOO HOO?"

The Eagle Owl tilted its head, a look of confusion in its eyes.

_But it has horns, doesn’t it?_

Yang Qi was speechless.

’Forget it.’

Deciding not to explain further, Yang Qi took out a whole block of Vitality Nutrient Cream and tossed it to the Eagle Owl.

The Eagle Owl expertly snatched it with its talons, let out a cheerful hoot, and eagerly began to peck at its meal.

_Yummy, yummy._

_Thanks, nice-smelling Two-legged Beast._

"It’s the reward you’ve earned," Yang Qi said with a smile. "If you ever run into another animal that needs help, or if anything else unusual happens, come find me."

_Okay._

The Eagle Owl responded. After devouring the entire nutrient cream, it flapped its wings and took flight. It circled once above Yang Qi’s head, letting out a few calls that sounded like a farewell, before flying off in the direction of its nest.

Yang Qi gave the Lin She mother and fawn one last look to make sure they were safe. Then, with Bai Wan and Leopard in tow, he followed the path back to the camp.

When the man and his two dogs reappeared in the glow of the campfire, they immediately drew everyone’s attention.

"Xiao Yang, are you alright?"

"Advisor Yang, what happened?"

Jiang Kai and Uncle Cai were the first to greet him.

"I’m fine."

Yang Qi brushed the grass and leaves from his clothes. "It’s nothing," he said simply. "A Lin She was having a difficult birth, but I helped her deliver. Mother and baby are both safe and sound. I also scared off a few wolves that were lurking nearby."

"A Lin She? There are Lin She on Cangshan!?"

"A difficult birth? You delivered the baby?"

"You scared off wolves all by yourself?"

"So the owl really was a messenger?!"

...

The group erupted, everyone talking at once and crying out in amazement.

Professor Zhou strode up to Yang Qi, his eyes burning with intensity and his voice trembling with excitement. "Yang... Advisor Yang, you really... you really did it? You communicated with an owl, found a Lin She in obstructed labor, successfully assisted with the birth, and even drove off a pack of wolves?"

"This... can you describe the entire process in detail? This could be a major discovery for animal ethology and research into interspecies mutualism!"

The other experts and graduate students crowded around as well, pressing for details with faces full of disbelief and curiosity.

Yang Qi looked at the probing eyes all around him and knew he had to say something.

He cleared his throat.

"Professor Zhou, everyone."

Maintaining a polite smile, Yang Qi calmly explained, "The process itself was nothing special. That Eagle Owl is quite smart, and we’d met before. As for the Lin She, I’ve studied a bit of animal first aid and birthing assistance. That, combined with a bit of good luck, was all it took for me to be able to help."
