“Summoning magic” is a power now forbidden by the Magtalas Confederation. It consisted of conjuring, for a limited time, a creature from another world to fight for the summoner. However, as knowledge developed, it became clear that this power teleported creatures from other worlds and subjected them to mental slavery, raising several ethical issues. When it was discovered that people from “civilized” worlds could also be summoned, this branch of magic gradually became immoral, then illegal, and measures were taken. Those with licenses can still use these powers, but are limited to pre-selected targets who have consented and signed a work contract (in the case of sentient beings).
