Chapter 720: Mutant Hen

"That’s true." Yin Chuchu, optimistic and rarely self-pitying, seemed quite fortunate compared to others. Now that water resources were polluted, the importance of Water Element and Ice Element superpower users suddenly became evident.

The base is currently recruiting a large number of Water Element superpower users, providing accommodation and meals, with excellent benefits.

Now, several supply points have been established in the Imperial City, providing water resources. Each household can only receive one bottle of water per day, which isn’t much, but it’s enough for many people to survive.

Of course, it’s possible to obtain more resources. The country is currently recruiting for the military. When the apocalypse first occurred, at least half of the troops were infected, so there’s a shortage of personnel now.

By joining the military, each family will also receive various subsidies, and there’s no shortage of food in the military.

While Xu Mumu and the others were resting here, a group of people ran over from a distance, and Xu Mumu’s face suddenly turned unpleasant. Behind these dozen people, there was a large group of zombies.

"Get up, leave here immediately." Yin Yang looked at the group trying to divert disaster and his eyes flashed with coldness.

In these days of tacit understanding, with Yin Yang’s word, the group immediately got into the car, and with Yin Lin leading the way, they directly left the area.

The group intending to divert disaster suddenly became dumbfounded, completely not expecting them to actually do such a thing. Weren’t they supposed to save them?

Many people were utterly desperate inside, fully knowing how ferocious these zombies were, but this was no time for cursing; they had to run quickly, or they’d end up as zombie fodder.

Xu Mumu looked at those people in the rearview mirror, with no significant emotional fluctuation. She had witnessed many such occurrences in the apocalypse, where even those who just shared life and death might be plunged into the abyss in no time.

Yin Yang picked a farmhouse on a simple map and stopped the car there. The sound of the car attracted quite a few zombies.

However, this farm belonged to the Yin Family. It was a rural leisure place with plenty of grains and many fruit trees; it was uncertain if there were still fruits.

"Chuchu, follow me closely in a moment." Yin Chuchu had sprained her ankle while running earlier, and the pain was getting to her, being supported by a cousin from the Yin Family.

"Got it, sister-in-law." Yin Chuchu said somewhat downheartedly, not wanting to be a burden to them.

But at this moment, the only sensible action was to follow instructions honestly and not hold them back.

As zombies approached, Xu Mumu and Yin Yang protected Yin Chuchu, killing zombies in the area. The number of zombies was considerable, given the many vacationers who had been here before.

After clearing out the zombies that lunged at them, there weren’t many left inside the farmhouse, making clean-up faster.

Two people stayed behind to excavate Crystal Cores, while Yin Yang led the others to clear the zombies inside the farm. The farm had three buildings, and plenty of animals and plants, most of which had turned into zombies.

Xu Mumu and Yin Yang looked at the giant hen flying out before them, which had grown twice in size, with feathers turning a brilliant red.

The hen lifted its head arrogantly, expressing strong displeasure at the intruders in its territory, flapping its wings and flying towards them, as if determined not to stop until it pecked them to death.

"That’s quite an evolution for a hen, Mumu. Want a pet?" The little elf’s voice sounded in Xu Mumu’s mind.

"Mutant animals can be captured as pets?" Xu Mumu was surprised, feeling like she had gained much more knowledge in this life compared to her past one.

"Of course they can be, as long as you subdue it and then imprint your soul in its consciousness."

Song Fuxiao, who had been guided by the little elf through two reincarnations, had a soul much stronger than ordinary people and had a vague understanding of some uses of soul power.

She didn’t expect to be able to use it to tame mutant animals, which was a big surprise for her.

"Mumu, be careful. Now’s not the time to daydream." Yin Yang’s knife blocked the hen’s claws, glancing at his wife who suddenly dazedly, guessing she might be talking to the little elf in the Reincarnation Jade.

But couldn’t she choose a better time to talk? What if she encountered danger while he wasn’t there to help?

"Haha, Yin Yang, you guys join in; don’t kill the hen. Let me see if I can tame it." Xu Mumu said enthusiastically, thinking how cool it would be to have multiple mutant beasts as pets, providing reliable partners when danger hit.

"You can tame it?" Yin Lin’s eyes brightened, tempted to capture a mutant beast himself.

"I should be able to, I’ll give it a try." Xu Mumu laughed, putting away her knife, and punched the hen’s head. Sensing danger from Xu Mumu’s force, the hen shifted slightly, yet the punch still dazed it.

Seizing the opportunity, Xu Mumu went in and gave the hen a good beating until she sensed its slight plea for mercy.

Timing it right, Xu Mumu, guided by the little elf, imprinted a trace of her soul in its consciousness.

The hen looked at Xu Mumu sorrowfully, having barely developed intelligence and become the boss in this patch of woods. But before it could enjoy its leadership, it had been bound by this human.

Feeling powerless against any thought of rebellion or harm towards Xu Mumu, the hen slumped at her feet, its eyes losing much of their spirit.

Amused, Xu Mumu grabbed a Zombie Crystal Core from her space.

"Wanna eat this?" Purified by the little elf, the core made the hen’s eyes stick to it the moment it was taken out.

The hen nodded quickly; the core smelled delicious.

"Go ahead, eat. Stick with me, and I’ll give you a Crystal Core every day." Xu Mumu patted its head, noticing the hen’s feathers, although scattered in the beating, radiated a warm heat reminiscent of awakened Fire Ability.

Having just developed intelligence, the hen had thoughts akin to a three- or four-year-old child but could already express simple desires.

From the hen’s conveyed feelings, Xu Mumu figured out that it indeed awakened the Fire Ability, though too weak to breathe fire more than twice a day.

They were lucky today; prior to their arrival, the hen had burned two zombies close to the woods, preventing them from entering, thus exhausting its abilities.

The Crystal Core was consumed rapidly by the hen, transforming into pure energy and entering its Superpower Core.
