After tidying up the battlefield a bit, Xu Mumu took out some food.
One night’s harvest was still pretty good, and now it was almost dawn; the battle with these mutated wolves had taken quite some time.
"It’s snowing again." Yin Chuchu said while eating, stretching her hand outside the tent. Tiny snowflakes fell into her palm.
"We need to speed up and travel quickly; if the snow gets heavier, it might hail, which will make it inconvenient for us to travel." Xu Mumu said, looking at the snowflakes outside.
"Alright, let’s do as you say, let’s rest for a bit and then quickly get going." Yin Yang nodded, holding food in one hand and looking at the map.
They had been trekking through the mountains for only two or three days. To walk out of these deep mountains solely on foot, they would need at least a month.
They couldn’t afford to waste time on the mountains, and after coming up, the cell phone signal weakened significantly. If they went further, they might not receive any signal.
"We’re now somewhat off from our planned route; tomorrow we should get back on the path we discussed before."
After arranging the plan for the future, Yin Yang even had Xu Mumu take out the firearms. Everyone was equipped with a rifle, ensuring that if they encountered danger, even if their superpower couldn’t be used in time, the Yin Family members could still manage with these weapons.
Xu Mumu didn’t have any objections and followed Yin Yang’s arrangements directly.
They stowed the tents in the spatial dimension, and as the sky outside was already brightening, the group packed up and set off again.
The snow outside had already gotten quite heavy; the ground and trees were cloaked in a silver layer, and the weather had become colder. The temperature hadn’t yet reached its lowest point.
Having dealt with that group of wolves earlier, there weren’t any mutant animals nearby now.
Xu Mumu couldn’t relax in her heart; the forest was exceptionally silent, a silence that made her feel uneasy.
Not far from their departure, Yin Yang suddenly halted and brushed aside the snow at his feet.
"This is a shoe... or a slipper. Has someone come into these deep mountains?" Yin Yang picked up a slipper, a hint of contemplation in his eyes. It seemed this slipper hadn’t been left here long; it hadn’t been exposed to the elements long enough to weather.
"That can’t be. We’re far from the small town down the mountain. Who would venture up the mountain for no reason? This mountain is barren; even finding food is difficult." Yin Chuchu found it hard to believe.
"We need to be extra cautious. If driven to desperation, it’s not impossible for someone to come into these mountains," Yin Yang said seriously.
The next stretch of their journey was uneventful, neither encountering any mutant beasts nor any people.
By the afternoon, Xu Mumu and the others had to stop; the snow was getting heavier, even mixed with hail.
"It’s likely this hail won’t stop for a while. We should find a place to stay, preferably a cave," Yin Yang said, looking around, a white umbrella over his head.
"Big brother, there’s a cliff not far ahead. We could dig a cave there ourselves," Yin Lin returned from the front with important intelligence.
"Let’s go check it out." Yin Yang said immediately, the snow outside was getting heavier, the hail growing bigger. Their tents couldn’t withstand the constant pounding of the hail; a cave seemed more reliable.
The group walked for over ten minutes, finally reaching the place Yin Lin had mentioned.
Looking at the cliff ahead, it was a towering peak, massive and tall. Staying here for a day or two wouldn’t be a problem.
As they wielded their superpowers directly against the mountain, Xu Mumu looked at the sky outside, the hail growing heavier. Calculating the time, this snow might continue intermittently for over half a month, now wasn’t the time to venture out.
After over an hour, they finally managed to carve out a cave. It was quite spacious, even reinforced with Gold Element superpowers, it looked quite reliable.
Xu Mumu took out many things, mostly for warmth.
Yin Yang also led them out to gather a lot of firewood; however, when they returned, they brought a seventeen or eighteen-year-old boy, thin as a bag of bones, with a gaping wound on his back.
"Wanqiu, treat his injury." Yin Yang placed the person on a soft cushion and called Yin Wanqiu over.
Xu Mumu also came closer; the wound on this boy’s back looked as if it were scratched by wolf claws, wounds they’d seen just last night.
"Mumu, are you cold? Let me fill your hot water bag with warm water." Yin Yang offered, getting ready to change the water in Xu Mumu’s hot water bag.
"No need for now, I’m not that cold." Xu Mumu shook her head; after this boy was brought back, the small, not-so-ventilated cave was filled with a strong smell of blood.
"Where did you find this person?" The boy’s clothes were thin, now his lips were blue-black from cold, his breath weak. If Yin Yang hadn’t picked him up, he likely wouldn’t survive the night.
"Found him by the river over a mile away; the wolves that attacked us last night hadn’t gone far, this guy wasn’t too lucky," Yin Yang said calmly.
"Tsk tsk, daring to wear such thin clothes and live in the forest in this weather, quite bold."
Yin Wanqiu treated the boy’s wounds, while the others had brought over some warm water and fed it to him.
The wound healed quickly, and a mouthful of hot water warmed him gradually. With a big fire on the side, surrounded by warm air, Yu Haoming slowly opened his eyes, his back itching a bit, less painful now. Was he still alive?
"You’re awake." Yin Chuchu approached, having brought over a thick down jacket to cover him.
"Where is this place?" Yu Haoming looked at the people around him, all human, a trace of vigilance flashed in his eyes.
"We’re still on the mountain; we’re not sure exactly where we are. This place is over a mile from where you fell," Yin Yang said calmly, observing him.
"Oh, is that so? Thank you for saving me." Yu Haoming pursed his lips.
"Eat something." Yin Yang brought over a bowl of porridge, placing it before Yu Haoming. This person surely knew this area well; with him leading, they could take fewer detours when the snow stopped.
Yu Haoming looked at the small bowl of food before him, then at the people around him, decisively picked up the bowl and quickly finished the porridge. Since the apocalypse began, it was the first time he’d tasted chicken porridge, the taste was wonderful.
"Why are you giving me food?" After eating, Yu Haoming finally looked at Yin Yang and the others. He was just too hungry.
