Since the apocalypse began, food has become extremely precious. He never expected these people to offer him food and water, so he remained secretly wary.
"It’s nothing, just found you pleasing to the eye. What’s your name, and why are you in the mountains?" Yin Yang calmly asked.
"My name is Yu Haoming, I’m from Yu Family Town at the foot of the mountain. There are zombies everywhere down there, and the survivors came up the mountain hoping to find some food." Yu Haoming didn’t hide anything; after all, there wasn’t much to keep secret.
"Are you familiar with these mountains?" Yin Yang looked at Yu Haoming, forming a guess in his mind. This person seemed straightforward, and he wasn’t afraid of being deceived.
"Somewhat familiar. Are you planning to go down the mountain? I know the way. I can lead you out as a thank you for saving me." Yu Haoming quickly replied.
"No need, we want to cross over this mountain range. Are you familiar with the path?" Yin Yang continued to ask.
"I’ve crossed it twice before with my grandfather, so I have an idea of the route." Yu Haoming glanced around. Is this really a cave? But the surroundings were encased in metal, and the entrance was blocked by a large wooden door.
Apart from these people, there were also mutant beasts here, and even mutant chickens. This group was really peculiar.
Although they saved him, he still couldn’t fully let down his guard.
"Lead us over the mountain range, and during this time, we’ll provide you with food."
"Why?" Yu Haoming asked, bewildered, looking at Yin Yang with some confusion.
"Don’t ask questions you shouldn’t. Rest now; it’s already late." Yin Yang said coldly.
The carved-out cave was quite large. Xu Mumu took out several cushions. They couldn’t set up beds here, but sleeping on cushions for a night wasn’t a problem.
The cushions were placed not far from the fire. The cave wasn’t well-ventilated, but it was much warmer than outside.
Xu Mumu slept in the innermost part, and Yin Yang adjusted the blankets to prevent the cold wind from outside from chilling his young wife.
The next day, Xu Mumu was up early. Yin Yang and the others were already awake, tinkering at the cave’s entrance, preparing to reinforce the wooden door.
"Mumu, go inside. The hail outside is getting bigger; we can’t leave for now." Yin Yang said softly.
"What about Lin and the others?" Xu Mumu nodded. She didn’t need Yin Yang to tell her; she already felt the temperature dropping.
"There’s not much firewood here; they’ve gone out to find some." Yin Yang said.
Xu Mumu took some food from the space and filled a bucket next to the fire with ice, waiting for it to slowly melt.
Yin Chuchu was still sleeping, so Xu Mumu didn’t wake her to help with the water.
Yu Haoming had already woken up, blankly watching Xu Mumu and the others. He now knew that this group were superpower users, especially the woman who had two superpowers, one of Ice Element and another of Space System, able to conjure things from thin air.
Their abilities were strong. Earlier in the morning, a mutant bird attacked but was swiftly devoured by Yin Yang’s power, leaving only the Crystal Core.
These events left a deep impression in Yu Haoming’s heart.
"Why are you looking at me?" Xu Mumu glanced over at Yu Haoming. He had been staring at her, and if there had been any other emotion besides surprise and curiosity in his gaze, she might have thrown him out.
"You have two superpowers." Yu Haoming pressed his lips together.
"What’s so amazing about that? It’s just two superpowers; among the many survivors, I’m sure there are others too." Xu Mumu said calmly.
"Are you from a major base? Why do you want to cross this mountain range?" Yu Haoming asked Xu Mumu.
"We’re from the Imperial City base; we have our reasons for crossing the mountain." Xu Mumu replied.
"Imperial City base, what’s it like?" Yu Haoming was intrigued. He had had enough of life on the mountain, watching his companions die one by one, and longed to be where there were people.
Xu Mumu briefly described the situation at the Imperial City base, then asked Yu Haoming about his superpower. "What about you? Do you have any superpowers, and if so, what are they?"
This person seemed quite familiar with superpowers, indicating he probably had one too.
"My superpower is useless; I can see far, like a telescope." Yu Haoming said softly, feeling his power was quite redundant. Otherwise, those people wouldn’t have abandoned him.
Xu Mumu nodded, understanding. However, Yu Haoming’s ability wasn’t entirely useless. Being able to see far distances could be quite valuable for their group.
The breakfast was simple, consisting of buns Xu Mumu took from the space.
As he ate the fragrant buns, Yu Haoming kept his head down. These people kept providing him with food; even though they had a Space Ability User, they were so generous.
After breakfast, Xu Mumu told Yin Lin about Yu Haoming. Next, it was up to Yin Lin to work on Yu Haoming’s mindset. Yu Haoming’s superpower was quite useful, bringing significant benefits to the team, so Xu Mumu planned to integrate him into their group.
Yin Yang understood his wife’s intentions and didn’t oppose. After all, the ability to see far was quite advantageous.
It didn’t take long to convince Yu Haoming, as his requirements were simple—just food and drink.
Yu Haoming successfully joined the team. The members from the Yin Family had been carefully selected by Yin Yang, so there were no unpleasant personalities, making the integration smooth.
Yu Haoming adapted quickly, and by evening, he was completely comfortable with the team.
Seeing the phones that the team had exchanged from the Imperial City still working, Yu Haoming felt envious. If he had gone to the Imperial City at the start of the apocalypse, he wouldn’t have suffered so much on the mountain.
Through the phones, he learned much about the situation in the Imperial City.
Outside, the hail grew larger, and despite the warm fire, the cold was still felt.
"This hail, who knows when it will stop—it’s so cold." Yin Chuchu held her hands over the fire and a hot water bottle, still feeling the chill.
"It will last at least another three or four days." Yu Haoming said, looking at the skies outside as he warmed himself by the fire.
"You can predict the weather?" Yin Chuchu asked in surprise.
"A little bit, I learned it from my grandfather." Yu Haoming blushed slightly.
Yin Yang glanced at Yu Haoming and quickly looked away. Being able to read the weather was a skill.
If this hail was going to last three to four more days, they needed to prepare more firewood by tomorrow.
Xu Mumu and Yin Yang exchanged a look, sharing the same thought. Although they had charcoal in the space, with firewood available outside, Xu Mumu decided not to use it just yet.
