Chapter 445: Ash Did Not Grow into a Mountain

Lana carried the measuring stick into the registry loft while Ash stood on the marked floorboard without being told.

The town had spent two weeks turning his early growth into a mountain rumor, and the rumor had reached merchants who sold charts beside the gate.

Hajin watched Ash reach for a loaf on the upper shelf, miss by two fingers, and drag a stool across the floor with stubborn determination.

Aria pulled every height, weight, and vocabulary note from the first week Ash arrived in the Sixth.

’If the Stream still thinks he gains a handspan every nap, kill that math before someone sells it again,’ Hajin thought, holding the loaf above the measuring board.

Lana set the stick against the wall notch and pointed at the floor.

"Hold still, and do not blink-step halfway through the measurement while the board is against your heels," Lana instructed.

Ash held still for three breaths, then rose onto his toes when Hajin lowered the loaf beyond his reach.

Lana pressed his heels down with two fingers and waited until the soles stayed flat.

The new mark sat above the early baby notches, yet nowhere near the absurd curve merchants had drawn across the tavern boards.

Lana held the old chart beside the wall and showed the first notch, the sudden four-centimeter jump, and the slower marks that followed.

The measurement line rose in steps rather than a cliff, and the visual difference made the rumor look less impressive than its sellers had claimed.

Ash reached toward the loaf again, failed to touch it, and dragged the stool into position without asking an adult to lift him.

Hajin moved the bread only after Ash’s feet settled on the stool, allowing the ordinary problem to show what the measurements could not.

Aria overlaid the numbers in Hajin’s thoughts as a sequence of ordinary steps rather than a warning.

"The early record shows a four-centimeter increase across three days during initial core stabilization, and the rate fell sharply after the first week," Aria explained.

Another line appeared beside the height record, listing vocabulary, balance, appetite, and the older-child stature Ash now carried through the registry.

"Current stature and speech match an older human child while his species age remains far younger," Aria continued, keeping biology separate from combat progression.

Hajin set the loaf on the shelf and crouched beside Ash.

"You are growing steadily, not turning into a mountain, and the shelf still wins when the stool is missing," Hajin told him.

Ash considered the shelf, the stool, and the measuring stick before lifting his chin.

"The shelf is cheating, and I want the loaf moved to a fair height for everyone," Ash replied, pointing at the bread.

Lana covered a smile with the measuring board while Hajin moved the loaf onto the table.

Vella arrived with a spare notebook and checked Ash’s pulse, core warmth, and the faint geometric lines across his chest.

The lines appeared only when the child grew annoyed at being measured, fading when Vella placed a cup of water within reach.

"There is no pathway strain from the early jump, and the stabilization burst spent itself during the first week," Vella said, writing beside the health column.

"Steady growth remains, yet a larger body does not grant a new combat stage or permission to carry ore," she added, turning the notebook toward Hajin.

Ash flexed both hands as if the warning were a compliment, then looked toward Hajin for a translation.

"Vella means you are strong, and she still refuses to let you tow ore for entertainment," Hajin explained, returning the notebook.

Ash climbed Hajin’s side in three pulls and settled on his shoulder while the measuring stick remained beside the floorboard.

"Still here, not mountain, and the shelf remains unfair to anyone without a stool," Ash announced, resting his chin against Hajin’s head.

Juna snorted from the loft rail with her ears tipped toward the open stairway.

"The child learned the joke before the adults finished arguing about the ruler," Juna said, rubbing one ear.

Ferra leaned in the doorway with a forge rod used as a spare measurement check and a stack of confiscated tavern sketches.

"I can forge a taller door, but I refuse to forge a myth, and the gate board gets only measured lines," Ferra declared.

Eirwen listened from the lower step with her embassy braid plain, taking notes as if species biology could become treaty-relevant.

"Alder records do not measure living custodians by human childhood calendars, so your correction prevents panic policy," Eirwen said, closing her notebook.

Marrick entered with a pinning hammer and three copies of Aria’s summary.

"The public notice will use early stabilization burst, slowed rate, and current stature, while the mountain curve becomes a fineable chart," Marrick announced.

Hans read the first copy over Marrick’s shoulder and tapped the final line.

"Add that he still climbs people when displeased, so soldiers receive the useful warning instead of a clean biology report," Hans said.

Lana wrote the habit beneath the biological rule while Ash tugged Hajin’s hair until his feet touched the floor.

"Down now, and stop turning my shoulder into a ladder while the registry is working," Hajin told him, rubbing the spot where Ash’s heels had pressed.

Ash frowned at the measuring stick, then took its handle with both hands.

"The stick makes the room boring, and I want the high shelf test repeated with witnesses," Ash replied, dragging the tool toward the ladder.

Hajin caught the far end before the child could swing it into the rafters.

"The measurement is finished, and the next test happens after lunch with no weapon attached to the ruler," Hajin said.

Ash blinked once, accepted the restriction, and placed the stick against the wall with exaggerated care.

The child watched from the clinic threshold with Loccy behind her, then pointed toward Ash’s height marks as if comparing toys rather than species.

Loccy shifted her splinted arms and angled the coat edge toward the child.

"He is still small enough to carry, and heavy enough to stay when he decides the floor belongs to him," Loccy told her.

Hajin rubbed his shoulder and looked at the honest notches again.

’Older child shape, steady rate, same habits, and no mountain,’ he thought, lowering Ash onto the stool.

The Stream opened across his vision as the gate notice went up.

[ Loccy_Defense_Squad: ] The tank described Ash’s entire power system in one sentence.

[ CringeSlayer91: ] He said not mountain out loud, and the Stream has died happy.

[ ashley (Mod): ] Keep medical claims limited to the posted measurements and signed health column.

Aria filed the reconciled ledger beneath Ash’s unknown designation without forcing a species name from an incomplete divine record.

"The public joke now has a biological boundary, with no combat implication or Ring progression attached to stature," Aria reported.

Marrick pinned the three-line correction beside the gate rates while Lana kept the measuring stick in her hand.

"Post it, and ignore any new curve until the merchant brings a ruler that agrees with the wall," Hajin instructed Marrick.

Ash heard the rule in Hajin’s voice and climbed him again out of pure principle, resting his chin on Hajin’s head.

"Displeased with the measurement, and displeased with the public notice," Ash declared, tightening his grip.

"Your complaint is recorded, and your feet still return to the floor when the work needs both shoulders," Hajin answered.

Lana bribed Ash down with fruit after the child attempted one careful climb toward the loft beam.

The growth ledger listed measured development rather than combat progression, and no Ring, Zone, or Fragment recovery attached itself to the child’s height.

Vella signed the health column after confirming the early stabilization burst had ended, while Lana added dates beside every notch for future comparisons.

Ash’s vocabulary notes remained separate from the physical record, since a new word did not announce a new species stage.

The household returned to ordinary work when the measuring stick rested beside the wall, and the mountain rumor died beneath honest marks.

Marrick compared the confiscated tavern chart with the wall and cut the exaggerated curve into strips for packing material.

Lana kept the real measurement board beside the registry ruler, while Vella signed the health note without treating a steady height as a medical miracle.

Ash watched the paper chart disappear into a crate and looked satisfied until the fruit bowl moved beyond his reach again.

The child pointed at the bowl, then at Hajin’s shoulder, and the household recognized the next climbing attempt before it began.

Ash reached for the fruit bowl and paused before his fingers touched it when a thin ringlet flickered beneath his covered wrist.

The light pointed once toward the sealed road beyond the registry, then vanished before Aria could classify its direction.

Hajin caught Ash’s hand without squeezing it, while Lana moved the measuring stick away from the child’s reach.

The next change left no height mark, no vocabulary entry, and no explanation on the household board.

Aria kept the unexplained flicker separate from the growth ledger, while Hajin held Ash’s wrist and waited for the covered light to remain quiet.
