Chapter 316 - 178: Jiang Chengcheng, Danger Precognition, the Soothsayer

After all, once the sole enforcers of order departed, Jin City had completely devolved into a steel jungle where the strong preyed on the weak.

That was why the Thirteenth Division had a terrible reputation among the common survivors. Many of them were workers who had answered the Federation’s call at the start of the apocalypse, staying behind to construct the Wu City defensive line. Yet the Thirteenth Division had left the front lines on their own accord, abandoning them without so much as a word.

This left Jin City, the State Capital of Jiangnan Province, completely exposed and at the mercy of the Zerg Race.

In truth, the Thirteenth Division couldn’t really be blamed. They were bound to follow orders from high command, and without a solution to their logistical problems, they wouldn’t have been able to hold out for long anyway.

But now that Lin Feng had taken over Jin City, he wanted to establish his own ruling order. To do that, he had to stamp out the kind of moral blackmail being forced on his group before it could even start.

His goal was to save the entire human race, not just the hundred thousand old, weak, sick, and disabled residents of Jin City.

Han Yuxin walked ahead, leading the way for Lin Feng.

Following behind Lin Feng were Ling Yi and the members of his Battle Group.

The day before, Chen Yanyan had already given Han Yuxin a brief overview of Ling Yi’s background.

However, she hadn’t mentioned anything about the Mother Empress Avatar. She only brought up Ling Yi’s background as a researcher, explaining that she was here to help Lin Feng with the Genetic Warrior modification project.

As a result, Han Yuxin didn’t pay her much attention.

She simply regarded Ling Yi as another scientific researcher, like Director Ling Shuyan.

The office for the temporary base was located in a five-star hotel that overlooked the river.

The main reason was for practical concerns; accommodation and meals could be handled on-site.

A few minutes later...

In the top-floor conference room, Lin Feng stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking down at the busy survivors. They were fishing along the Riverfront and on the bridge spanning the river, using nets and other homemade tools.

Farther out, on the sandbar islands in the Great River and near the nature park, even more people were fishing.

Ling Yi was sprawled on a sofa, rubbing her eyes. She watched the humans on the Riverfront hauling in massive catches of fish, an anguished look on her face.

Han Yuxin had changed out of the women’s suit she’d been wearing earlier. She now wore a form-fitting white shirt and a hip-hugging short skirt, the very picture of a private secretary.

Hugging a file organizer to her chest, Han Yuxin walked up behind Lin Feng. Her long, shapely legs were clad in black stockings, and she wore a pair of gray-black, red-soled high heels. She shot a glance at the completely undisciplined Ling Yi before turning back to Lin Feng with a smile and saying:

"We can thank those monstrous gang leaders for one thing—the people are quite docile now. They haven’t made many demands. They’re too busy worrying about where their next meal will come from. Still, there are some who aren’t content with that. They’re secretly trying to stir up trouble and disrupt the order..."

Lin Feng nodded, not overly concerned.

"Have you notified Betty?"

Han Yuxin opened her file organizer. Inside were schedules and records of various matters. She pushed up her glasses.

"Yes, she’s been notified. She should be here by tomorrow. Did you want to meet with her here? If you’re in a hurry to get back, she’ll probably raise a fuss and insist on going to the Wu City front to meet you in person."

Lin Feng shook his head.

"Let’s not risk that. I’ll meet her before we leave. The camp at Wu City isn’t safe right now, especially for her."

"We’ll leave tomorrow afternoon. Schedule a meeting with her before then."

Han Yuxin nodded, the corners of her lips curling slightly. ’It seems my face mask and early night were worth it,’ she thought. ’I’ve finally gotten my complexion back to its best state so I can give my full attention to arranging Lin Feng’s overnight stay.’

She then looked down at the next item on her list and continued,

"There’s something else I think I should report to you."

Lin Feng turned his head, waiting for her to continue.

Han Yuxin paused for a moment, gathering her thoughts.

"It’s about the little girl you and Miss Chen brought here, the Enhanced Person named Jiang Chengcheng. After I arranged for her to kill the ’cargo,’ she successfully became an Awakener."

"But the Superpower she Awakened..."

"What about it?" Lin Feng’s interest was piqued. He remembered the resilient little weed of a girl from the docks and the Superpower she had already started to Awaken.

Han Yuxin took a deep breath.

"Regarding the danger-perception Superpower you described, it seems to have changed now that she has fully Awakened."

"Jiang Chengcheng... she now seems to be able to sense danger ahead of time."

Lin Feng’s eyes narrowed slightly.

"Ahead of time? You mean, before the danger even manifests?"

Han Yuxin nodded.

"A few days ago, while we were pushing to expand our territory, we were ambushed. An enemy sniper was targeting us from several hundred meters away."

"But Jiang Chengcheng, who was with the team looking for her parents, gave us a warning ahead of time, telling us to take cover in the buildings along the street."

"Just a dozen seconds after she spoke, one of our front-line members was hit by a long-range shot. Luckily, he was wearing Red Armor, so he only suffered internal chest injuries and a mild concussion."

"If the enemy had possessed heavy weaponry, like a Mortar or an anti-materiel sniper rifle, our casualties would have been immense."

"It was only then that we realized her Superpower had changed. She isn’t sensing present danger, but danger that is *about to* happen nearby!"

"It’s less like perception and more like the prophecies of a Prophet..."

Lin Feng’s pupils contracted. He instantly recalled the Tier Six Peak Spine God he had encountered in the Spirit World.

Nearby, Ling Yi’s interest was piqued as well.

"I wouldn’t call her a Prophet. Precognition is more accurate. She can likely perceive future dangers that might befall her or the people around her..."

Lin Feng nodded and said to Han Yuxin,

"Bring her here. I want to see for myself."

’No matter how miraculous the Superpower, once I see her in person, my Identification ability will reveal everything.’

Han Yuxin was already prepared for this. She had kept Jiang Chengcheng close; the girl was in the hotel right now. A single phone call was all it would take for someone to escort her up.
