"Oh no... Wuhu! Danger!"
Yang Liehuo saw the car wobbling and about to flip over and instinctively wanted to rush up to rescue Duan Wuhu, but his hair was grabbed, forcing his head back and nearly making him fall on the spot.
"Are you crazy? The airbags have deployed, Old Duan won’t die, hurry up and get ready to kill the zombies!"
Guo Dachao saw Yang Liehuo trying to oppose the car with his body and, terrified, grabbed Yang Liehuo’s hair, shouting frantically in his ear.
Bang, bang bang...
Just as everyone expected, the big dog rolled 270 degrees down the mountain road shortly after the car tilted, swaying left and right before stabilizing, with the driver’s position facing everyone.
The intense collision caused all the airbags in the big dog’s cabin to deploy, the steering wheel airbag, A-pillar airbag, side airbag, knee airbag...
Duan Wuhu was squeezed in the middle by the airbags, not seriously injured, although the glass had cut some bleeding marks on his face, like meat filling squeezed in a large pile of dough, temporarily without life-threatening danger.
The car crash didn’t kill many zombies directly, but it successfully blocked their charge, buying the team precious time to regroup, enough to allow a well-trained group to rally in the brief dozen or so seconds.
When everyone charged forward with cold weapons again, a ghastly scene unfolded before their eyes...
A bloody corpse lay on the ground, and over a dozen zombies were tearing at it; some had even broken their legs during the car crash but still fought with their kind for flesh.
The sight filled everyone with bitter anger, as they had no intention of using the bodies of their kind to lure the zombies to slaughter, yet the reality was extremely harsh.
"Sister Lian..."
"No wonder the zombies suddenly went quiet and didn’t continue to chase us!"
"Kill, kill all these beasts!"
Yang Liehuo gripped the steel rod tightly, his knuckles whitening, stepping forward and striking a zombie in the back of the head, its skull shattered, dead on the spot.
The zombies had undergone three rounds of enhancements, but one habit hadn’t changed: as long as they ate, they’d become very calm, even focused, ignoring their kind being killed beside them until their brains got pierced!
Woof woof!
A dog’s bark sounded, alerting everyone. Good Fortune rarely barked, but whenever it did, it meant something was amiss, and sure enough, it was!
The zombies hit by the car weren’t all severely injured; three crawled up laboriously from the roadside ditch, their eyes lifeless but blood red, and once on their feet, they charged at the humans crazily, ignoring the gap between friend and foe.
If it weren’t for Good Fortune’s warning, the three zombies might have posed some trouble for the humans, but now...
Splatter, splatter.
Yang Liehuo and Guo Dachao quickly dealt with the three zombies together.
"Sister Lian..."
The women with tears in their eyes took turns finishing off the zombies feasting on Sister Lian, some with mouthfuls of flesh falling onto Sister Lian’s corpse, an indescribably tragic scene.
Howl, howl!
The zombies that had been crippled by the car struggled to crawl, but death awaited them just the same.
In less than ten minutes, all the living zombies were slaughtered, with Guo Dachao carefully checking to make sure not a single one survived.
In the face of victory, no one felt the slightest bit of excitement, not only due to Sister Lian’s death but also because two companions had been bitten, almost a death sentence.
"Huff, huff huff..."
Everyone panted heavily, white mist rising in clusters over their heads. Duan Wuhu had been rescued from the car; besides some cuts on his face and a sprained wrist, he was mostly fine. Everyone looked gravely at the two bitten women!
"Yu Jiaohua, Guo Fenfang, you, you two... sigh!"
Yang Liehuo looked at Yu Jiaohua and Guo Fenfang in utter dismay. They were both survivors who had come out of Kuanzhuang with him, and Yu Jiaohua was even a neighbor from the same village, now facing life and death separation, he felt immense sorrow.
"It’s not the worst yet, Brother Huo, why are you so down?"
Lü Leiyang was somewhat more spirited than Yang Liehuo, patting him on the shoulder vigorously, urging him not to show despair, at least not in front of the wounded, or they might die from fright even if they could be saved.
Zhong Xiaoshan brushed back her disheveled hair, took a deep breath of cold air, eyes bloodshot, and looked solemnly at the two women, saying, "Sister Jiaohua, Sister Fenfang, one of you got your arm bitten, the other your thigh. If you amputate quickly, there’s a chance to survive. I think... you should choose for yourselves, whether to fight for life or accept fate, the choice is yours!"
She wasn’t as decisive as Zhang Su, able to make such a determination, and having worked in a hospital for years, seen many patients nearing death, understood their mindset, knowing not everyone was willing to spend everything and endure suffering for treatment.
Sometimes, a quick end was a form of mercy.
"We, I..."
"What should I choose, what should I do?"
Yu Jiaohua and Guo Fenfang’s faces went pale; they couldn’t even think, let alone make a choice, their lips trembling uncontrollably.
"We’ve developed a Corpse Transformation Inhibitor, it can’t guarantee a one hundred percent success rate, but there’s a possibility it could work. Qiu Hui is currently undergoing treatment in the lab, so please do not give up, believe in yourselves, in science, and in miracles!"
