Chapter 697 - 700 Rainbow Bird [2nd update, please subscribe]

"If I’m not mistaken, that’s a Rainbow Bird, the designated mount for Law Enforcers serving under the Divine Emperor."

"This red bird is the weakest of the Rainbow Birds, yet it’s still at the Foundation Establishment Realm."

"Why is a Law Enforcer here?"

The strength of the Law Enforcers was clearly delineated. Those who rode red birds, for example, were only at the Foundation Establishment Realm. Despite their humble strength, the Law Enforcers were an organization created by the Divine Emperor to patrol all corners of the world, uphold law and order, and represent his honor. Who would dare to look down on them?

Even if a dog were sitting atop that red bird, one would have to revere it as a deity.

Within the Golden Monkey Kingdom, the citizens were astonished.

Upon learning of the Law Enforcer’s arrival, the Monkey King immediately led several ministers to pay their respects.

Now, the red bird had arrived at the Divine Monkey Great General’s Mansion.

"Save me!" the Divine Monkey Great General cried out miserably. He knew he was saved.

The Law Enforcers existed to maintain peace throughout the world. In the past, whenever the Divine Monkey Great General considered rebelling or leading his troops to attack cities, a Law Enforcer would appear before him. They did not arrest him, but simply said, "You may rebel, and you may plot to seize cities. However, you have killed enough people this year. I forbid you from killing anyone else."

The Divine Monkey Great General had seen Law Enforcers twice before. One rode a yellow bird, while the other stood upon an orange one.

Sometimes, the words of a Law Enforcer were more effective than an imperial edict. For instance, when a Monarch wanted to execute a rebel’s entire family line, a Law Enforcer arrived and merely said, "For my sake, let them go." That Monarch obediently complied.

The existence of the Law Enforcers represented the honor of the Divine Emperor, one of the five great Immortal Emperors. Nominally, the Law Enforcers existed to serve the entire world.

"I am here. You will not die."

The red bird landed, and the Law Enforcer atop it leaped down. He wore a cloak that completely concealed his features.

Ordinarily, the Law Enforcer on the yellow bird should have handled this incident. However, his colleague was busy today, so he—a Foundation Establishment Realm cultivator riding a red bird—came instead. Although he was only at the Foundation Establishment Realm and his strength was modest, he was quite confident because of his identity as a Law Enforcer. Even those in higher Realms had to show him respect. He had heard of this Wu Tian, and in his view, even someone like Wu Tian had to give the Law Enforcers their due.

He looked at Wu Tian and said gravely, "Wu Tian, you have already killed enough people. You are not to kill anyone else for the rest of the year."

The Divine Monkey Great General breathed a sigh of relief. With a Law Enforcer speaking on his behalf, this matter should be over. The Law Enforcer organization was spread across the entire world. The only group that could boast greater numbers was the storytellers. The Law Enforcers served the Divine Emperor. As for the storytellers, they all looked identical, but their master was unknown. Naturally, many people believed the Law Enforcers held the upper hand.

Lan Niang also breathed a sigh of relief as she watched the Law Enforcer intervene. No matter what, she didn’t want her father to come to any harm. Dao Feng and the others thought the same. Wu Tian was powerful and decisive in his kills, but now that a Law Enforcer had arrived, it was impossible for him to kill the Divine Monkey Great General. One had to carefully consider the terrifying power the Law Enforcers represented.

"Heh heh heh." Just then, Wu Tian shook his head and gave a cold laugh. "A pity. No one can stop me from killing the one I intend to kill."

The Monkey King, leading his soldiers and ministers, had also arrived. They understood the situation and were stunned by Wu Tian’s words.

"Has he lost his mind?"

"Seriously, the Law Enforcer has already spoken. Does he still intend to kill?"

"Wu Tian, you are indeed formidable. I tried to investigate you but found nothing," the Law Enforcer said, sizing up Wu Tian. A glint soon appeared in his eyes. "Of course, that’s only temporary. The Law Enforcers are spread throughout the Lower and Upper Realms. How could we fail to uncover your origins? It’s merely a matter of time. So, I advise you not to be arrogant. Be sensible and leave now."

"Of course I will leave," Wu Tian replied calmly.

Hearing this, the Law Enforcer nodded and smiled. "That’s the right choice. We Law Enforcers are not your enemies; we simply uphold the law. People in this world are divided into nine ranks. A person of the ninth rank commits a crime if they kill ten people in a year. A person of the sixth rank may kill up to ten thousand. As for a person of the Third Class, they can kill up to one hundred thousand, but no more, or they will have violated the law."

Wu Tian hadn’t expected this. He had already killed tens of thousands of people this year, which meant the Law Enforcer considered him a sixth-rank individual.

The little one in Wu Tian’s arms asked curiously, "Who has the authority to create these ranks? Who has the right to establish this law?"

The Law Enforcer’s voice suddenly turned reverent as he knelt. "Naturally, it is one of the five great Immortal Emperors, the founder of the power hierarchy, the architect of the ’survival of the fittest’ principle, the Overlord of the Soul Law and the Law of the Five Senses—the Divine Emperor."

Wu Tian nodded and turned to leave.

So what if you’ve become famous in this region? When I, a Law Enforcer, speak, you still have to listen obediently, the Law Enforcer thought with a smile.

The Divine Monkey Great General also felt smug. Fate is on my side. You won’t be able to kill me today!

AHHH!

Suddenly, Wu Tian activated his Spiritual Martial Skills.

Instantly, the already-injured Divine Monkey Great General exploded into pieces. His moment of triumph was short-lived; the Divine Monkey Great General was dead!

"How dare you?"

At this sight, the Monkey King and the others were appalled. The Law Enforcer roared, a cold light shooting from his eyes as he stared at Wu Tian and ground out through his teeth, "I told you not to act! How could you still strike? Are you making a fool of me? Are you making a fool of us Law Enforcers? Are you making a fool of the Divine Emperor?"

Wu Tian remained silent.

The little one, however, just laughed. "With which eye did you see my dad kill someone? Besides, at most, my dad was toying with you, and you alone. How did that turn into him toying with all the Law Enforcers, let alone the Divine Emperor?

"Also, my dad has normal tastes. Why would he ’play’ with men?

"Dream on. Even if he were interested, he wouldn’t want you."

His childlike voice dripped with mockery.

"You..." Furious, the Law Enforcer stepped forward, his Foundation Establishment Realm aura surging forth.

No one around cared; that realm was laughably weak.

However, a layer of light gradually enveloped the Law Enforcer, causing the faces of many onlookers to twist with terror. The light resembled the brilliance of the sun, making it impossible to look at directly.

"The might of an Emperor!"

"That’s right. This is an Emperor’s Aegis."

Seeing this light, the Monkey King and the others gasped in unison, completely thunderstruck.

An Emperor’s Aegis could only be bestowed by an Immortal Emperor. Those with a Divine Body could kill cultivators beyond their Realm. Those protected by the Emperor’s Light could do the same.

When Wu Tian himself was a genuine Immortal Emperor, he had also bestowed this light upon some of his followers. However, as it was passed down through their bloodlines, the light had grown faint. This Law Enforcer’s light, however, was clearly first-generation.

The light was dazzling!

Bathed in the Emperor’s Light, the Law Enforcer’s confidence surged. He stood tall, his voice resonating with authority as he threatened Wu Tian, "Wu Tian, if you admit your mistake and return with me for ten years of solitary confinement, all your crimes will be forgiven. Otherwise..."
