Chapter 282: Echoes and Acquaintances

The healed universe stretched out before them like a canvas freshly restored. Planets spun in perfect orbits once more. Stars burned with renewed vigor. Civilizations that had teetered on the brink of oblivion now stirred back to life, unaware of how close they had come to permanent erasure. The other Kieran stood at the edge of what remained of his homeworld’s shattered moon, hands shoved deep into his pockets, his tired eyes scanning the reformed reality with a mixture of relief and lingering exhaustion.

Adams stood a short distance away, arms crossed, his expression one of casual indifference. The Omnipotent System had done its work effortlessly—no fanfare, no drain on his infinite reserves. Just pure, overwhelming dominance over existence itself.

Magnus and his two Omni companions materialized without fanfare a respectful distance away. The silver-haired leader of the Omni observed the restored cosmos with quiet appreciation, his galaxy-like eyes reflecting the newly ignited stars. Lirael, the weaver of fates, stood gracefully beside him, her form shimmering with threads of possibility. Thorne, the guardian of thresholds, maintained a stoic vigil, his presence a bulwark against further decay.

"Adams Albert," Magnus spoke first, his voice resonant yet warm, carrying the weight of eons without a trace of hostility. "Your intervention was... swift. As expected. We sensed the disturbance and came to observe. It seems we arrived just in time to witness the aftermath."

Adams shrugged, not bothering to turn fully toward them. "It was broken. I fixed it. Simple as that. You three showing up again after all this time? Must be important."

The other Kieran watched the exchange closely. This was the Adams he remembered from his own shattered timeline—the being who had once offered salvation only to watch from afar. Seeing him interact so casually with the Omni sent a strange mix of nostalgia and unease through him.

Lirael stepped forward, her voice soft like silk over steel. "We hold no ill will, Adams. You made your choice long ago, after Oblivion fell. We respected it then, and we respect it now. But this distortion... it wears fragments of our signatures. It consumes rather than destroys. We believe it may be targeting branches connected to you."

Thorne nodded gravely. "An impersonator. Powerful enough to mimic us convincingly across multiple universes, yet careful not to provoke you directly. We came to warn you... and to offer what little assistance we can provide."

Adams finally turned, his golden eyes meeting Magnus’ gaze evenly. There was no tension, no battle readiness—just the quiet acknowledgment of beings who had long since moved past petty rivalries. "So someone’s playing dress-up with your faces. Eating at the edges of reality. Annoying, but not surprising. The multiverse is full of opportunists."

The other Kieran spoke up, his voice rough. "In my universe, it wasn’t just eating. It was systematic. Whole timelines unraveled. I thought it was one of you at first... until I met the real Adams."

Magnus regarded the alternate Kieran with measured curiosity. "Another branch. Another version. You have our sympathies for what you endured. We Omni maintain balance where we can, but even we have limits. Adams, however..." He allowed himself a small, respectful smile. "He operates on an entirely different scale."

Adams let out a soft breath that wasn’t quite a laugh. "Flattery won’t get you a seat at my table, Magnus. But I appreciate the honesty. No games this time?"

"None," Magnus confirmed. "We simply wish to understand the source of this echo. If it grows stronger, it could destabilize even higher layers. Your insight would be invaluable."

Lirael extended a hand, and a shimmering thread of pure information appeared—trails of distorted auras, faint signatures, and locations where the impersonator had struck. "This is what we’ve gathered. The Core your... associate carries may act as a key or a beacon. We can guide you toward the strongest distortions if you wish."

The other Kieran tensed slightly at the mention of the Core, but Adams raised a hand calmly. "Easy. He’s under my watch. The kid passed the test. Now he’s part of the show."

Thorne studied Adams carefully. "You seem... intrigued. More than usual."

Adams’ lips twitched into a faint smile. "Maybe. It’s been a while since anything managed to wear your faces and cause this much noise without getting erased instantly. Could be entertaining. Boredom’s been winning lately."

Magnus inclined his head. "Then we will leave the matter in your capable hands. Should you require our direct involvement, the Omni stand ready. Not as superiors—never that—but as allies in preserving what remains of order."

The three figures began to fade, their presence withdrawing politely from the restored universe. Magnus’ final words lingered. "Take care, Adams. And should you ever reconsider a place among us... the offer remains open. Though I suspect your answer will be the same."

As they vanished, Adams turned back to the other Kieran. The alternate version of the man stared at the spot where the Omni had stood, processing everything.

"You really are stronger than them," the other Kieran said quietly. "They treat you like... an equal who chose to be something more."

Adams shrugged again. "They’re janitors keeping the lights on. Respectable work, but I’ve seen beyond the hallway. As for you..." He gestured at the healed cosmos. "Your universe is stable for now. Go back to your Arianna. Tell her I said hello. And keep that Core close. It might draw more attention soon."

The other Kieran nodded slowly, the weight of centuries in his tired eyes. "This impersonator... if it’s coming for universes connected to you, mine might not be safe forever."

"Then handle it," Adams replied simply. "Or don’t. Either way, it’ll be interesting to watch."

With a casual snap of his fingers, a portal opened for the alternate Kieran. Before stepping through, the man paused.

"Thanks. For saving them."

Adams didn’t respond immediately. He simply watched as the other Kieran departed, the portal sealing behind him.

Alone once more in the vastness, Adams let the silence stretch. The new quest prompt from his System still lingered in his awareness—the first of its kind. A quiet chuckle escaped him.

"Even you are changing, huh?" he murmured to the invisible interface. "Fine. Let’s see where this echo leads."

The game, it seemed, had only just begun.
