[A mutated slime that consumes human and organic wastes. It rapidly grows and reproduces the same species based on caloric and mana intake.]
Adrian leaned forward to read the detailed explanation.
[When these monsters are killed and their cores are extracted, the body’s blob of mass left behind is a highly flammable material which can be used as high grade fuel. Since the slimes use their internal mana to purify all of the wastes that they consume, this resulting oil is going to be very pure. It isn’t really recommended for cooking but you can definitely use it for burning things and fueling other things.]
Adrian just stared at the blue screen as a massive grin spread across his face.
"Okay. I actually fucking love this."
Finding an endless supply of clean burning fuel was massive for his future plans.
He looked closely at the system screen again.
"What about the core you talked about though? What does it even do?"
[The slime’s monster core works similar to any other monster core found in nature.]
[However, slimes usually always have a monster core inside them. For every other monster, it is extremely hard for them to form a monster core naturally. Only monsters from the rank of C and above have a guaranteed chance of having a monster core inside them.]
[Any monster below that rank has a really negligible chance of having monster cores. But this completely excludes the slimes. Slimes are only formed because of the monster core pulling matter together.]
Adrian slowly nodded as the whole thing finally clicked in his brain.
Normally a mage or knight would have to risk their life hunting C rank beasts just to get a guaranteed monster core drop. They were incredibly valuable batteries for runic tools since they could be used as a substitute for mana crystals.
And now the system was basically telling him he could farm an infinite amount of them just by letting slimes eat the city’s garbage.
"Okay then. We are obviously going with the third option."
It completely solved the waste issue. It gave him oil that he could use ad fuel and it generated monster cores all at the exact same time.
He sat up a bit straighter on the bed.
"Tell me more about slimes," he said as he recalled the multiple slime-based anime and manga he read on Earth in his past life. Those things were always portrayed as weak early-game mobs but a few stories showed how insanely overpowered they could be if you actually used them properly.
He saw a massive amount of potential in this monster.
[Slimes are considered as one of the weakest monsters in existence.]
[They only do one thing which is consume matter and grow from it. It does not matter what matter it is as long as it is organic. They consume, they grow, and once they reach a certain mass, they divide and multiply.]
[Slimes have historically never mutated into something extremely dangerous. They have gained elemental capabilities in the past due to consuming specific high level monster carcasses, but these traits do not get genetically transferred to their offspring.]
Adrian nodded as he read all of it and rubbed his chin.
’So a slime is basically just a glorified poop cleaner in this world.’ he thought to himself as he looked up at the screen.
He gave a satisfied nod.
"Okay then. Make me a version of this slime that can work exactly like you said but just way more efficient."
He got up from the bed and started pacing around the room.
"I want the whole city’s waste to be cleaned regularly. I want the slimes to not only keep up with the massive waste production of my territory but I want them to be highly efficient in the actual conversion process too."
He stopped by the window and looked out at his sprawling city.
"As for the oil they produce... I guess I can use it for combustion purposes. For example starting a large fire for the forges or something. Honestly I don’t really know yet."
He rubbed the back of his neck.
"I can’t really use it directly to fry stuff since it’s obviously going to be toxic. It’s basically just refined monster fluid so cooking with it is totally out of the question. But I’m pretty sure I can use it for something else. I don’t-"
He suddenly stopped speaking mid-sentence.
He immediately remembered something he completely forgot about.
He still hadn’t given his people a proper lighting solution for the night. Oil lamps were the one thing that would actually make a massive difference right now and keep the city’s productivity high after the sun finally went down.
But Adrian already had something else planned for that.
Something he completely forgot.
It was none other than Aria’s magical torch.
He remembered holding the prototype his daughter proudly made for him. He remembered telling her he was going to make it more efficient before he mass produced it to give out to the people. But with everything that happened after that and due to all the chaos... he completely forgot about it.
Adrian looked at his system and immediately got to work.
He still had a few days before he had to get back to his official political duties but there were a lot of things he had to prepare before he did that.
And on top of that he had a message to send.
He walked over to his study table and sat down. He smirked as he picked up a fine quill and dipped it into a glass bottle of ink.
"Let’s just see how you get me to join your stupid war when I send you this," he muttered to himself.
He started writing.
He basically just wrote down the cold and hard facts of the whole situation. He made damn sure his tone was perfectly balanced too just in case he accidentally pissed the emperor off.
Almost ten minutes later he was finally done.
