The Assassin’s Embrace
"Wasn’t this guy completely silent just now ..." Queen thought as she gazed into Julian’s eyes
She was positive she didn’t see his lips move but the voice in her head, a calm male voice, was none other than the one who just stood across from her
This was the first time the assassins’ guild’s number one killer in the history of mankind felt genuinely threatened
What surprised her was this man’s comprehension of her abilities
She didn’t get second in the assassin rankings because of her overwhelming cultivation power
In fact, she wasn’t even close to the Gold Realm
Her talent lied in a special cultivation method which allowed her to move with such incredible speed most Gold Realm cultivators couldn’t land a single strike on her
Couple that with her knowledge of utilizing poisons and concealed weaponry and she had taken countless lives before they even realized the fight had started
The vast majority of her victims’ last memories were the dazzling flashes of her butterfly knives
However, this man, Julian, stood as if he wasn’t even aware of the battle that had ensued
Not only did he effortlessly evade her opening attack
He remained within striking distance of her butterfly knife for nearly half a minute before she could even attempt to land another one
Her first attack was nothing more than an opening
The real killing blow was the butterfly knife itself
A poisonous mist would emerge from a special slot on the knife as soon as it touched the ground, suffocating anyone within a meter’s vicinity
Normally, the victim would be dead within ten seconds of the mist spreading
But the man simply stood his ground, unaffected by the toxic gas whatsoever
This confirmed the intel she had gathered before accepting the mission
This man, Julian, was indeed immune to poison
The wind blew across the reservoir, clearing the toxic mist
Queen straightened her posture and the frivolous smile faded away, replaced by a serious expression as she regarded the man in front of her
"It’s rare to meet someone like you," She said sincerely
"I think you deserve to know my name first before I kill you"
She tapped one of the butterfly knives with her fingers, her movements languid yet predatory
"My name is Queen"
"I’m twenty-three years old," Queen said as she continued tapping the knife’s hilt
"I live in Milan, Italy."Single, currently," Queen said with a small smile
"My occupation is killing people on the dark web"
"I’m ranked second on the assassin leaderboard with a one hundred percent kill rate," Queen said proudly
"I don’t smoke."Rarely drink alcohol," Queen shrugged
"Go to bed at eleven every night and get eight hours of sleep"
"Before bed, I have a glass of hot milk"
"After twenty minutes of assassination training every day, I take a short nap and wake up fully refreshed every morning"
"Never feel tired or stressed," Queen said
"The doctors say I’m in perfect health"
Julian blinked several times, stunned beyond words
The whole reservoir fell silent as the evening breeze blew through the grass
Finally, Julian scratched the back of his head and let out a laugh
"...Wait, wait a second," he said, genuinely confused
"What are you talking about?"
Queen looked him straight in the eye
"Look, all I’m saying is that if I set my sights on you, the only outcome possible is your death"
She was smiling, her tone light and airy but every word rang with an ironclad conviction
"If you’re still alive after I’ve set my mind on you, it’ll be a great bother for me"
"Which is why no matter what, I’m going to kill you"
With the last word, two butterfly knives manifested in Queen’s hands, whirling around her fingers like two silver butterflies
She tossed her head back, her knives trailing ribbons of light, dancing around her like a mesmerizing performance but the killer intent emanating from them was enough to give anyone second thoughts
Not a single stumble in her movements or wasted motion in her attack
Her every flick of the wrist spoke volumes of her countless kills
Julian’s eyes followed the lithe movement of the knives until they locked onto Queen’s calm, calculating eyes
A helpless chuckle escaped his lips
"So you really aren’t giving me an option, are you?"
Standing against an assassin who had set her sights on his heart, a soft smile graced Julian’s lips
"In fact, I was hoping we could discuss this over a nice cup of coffee,"
Queen said nothing in response
No witty remark, no insult
She simply took a step forward, lowering her center of gravity slightly
At that moment, the sky seemed to darken, the evening breeze stilled, and the world held its breath as if it understood the gravity of the situation
The lighthearted atmosphere dissipated as the tension between the two combatants skyrocketed
All that was left was a silent battlefield with two people willing to kill each other
Then, without a single warning,
Julian stiffened
The smile on his face faded away, confusion replacing it
His pupils constricted
His breathing became ragged
"Wha..."
His body suddenly went limp, his knees buckling underneath his own weight
His whole body jerked as if something was pulling him down, suddenly losing all sense of balance
Thud!
Julian’s back hit the ground, the impact reverberating through the night
His hands twitched feebly while his lungs fought for every bit of air
Then his whole body gave one last convulsion before going completely limp.
