The Assassin’s Resolve
"WASN’T this man silent just now..." Queen thought as she looked at Julian D’Aurelius.
She was sure that the man’s lips did not move an inch.
However, that calm and collected male voice rang in her ears.
Julian, the famous assassin, was genuinely surprised for the first time in years.
More surprising was that the man had an accurate understanding of her skills.
It was not because her cultivation was so extraordinary that she ranked second on the assassin hierarchy list.
On the contrary, her own cultivation was far from being enough to reach the Gold Realm.
What made her so renowned in the assassin circle was her unique cultivation method, allowing her to possess extraordinary swiftness, rendering most Gold Realm warriors helplessly stunned before her attacks.
Coupled with her mastery of stealth and poisons, her foes usually found themselves already poisoned and wounded long before they could land a single strike.
But Julian was different.
Not only had he evaded her opening move, he continued to stay within the range of the butterfly knife’s attack for nearly a whole minute.
Her weapon’s killing ability was none other than the invisible toxic mist emitted from a special mechanism built into the knife.
This mist was undetectable to the naked eye and was immediately absorbed by anyone within a meter’s distance.
Normally, a single breath of this mist would be enough to kill a Gold Realm warrior within ten seconds, leaving them paralyzed and poisoned.
However, the mysterious man in front of her had not shown any symptoms of being poisoned, despite being within the range of the mist.
This was precisely the information that Queen had verified before accepting the assassination mission.
The man truly possessed an incredible poison resistance.
The toxic mist, along with the last traces of the butterfly knife’s killing intent, was carried off by the wind.
Queen stood tall and straightened her posture.
The mischievous smile on her face gradually faded, replaced by a serious look, as if paying respect.
"It’s really rare to meet someone like you," Queen said calmly.
"I should introduce myself properly."
She took out one of the butterfly knives and placed it lightly on her finger.
"My name is Queen."
"I’m twenty-three years old."I live in Milan, Italy."I’m unmarried."
"My profession is receiving the contract through the dark web."
"I’m currently ranked second with a one hundred percent success rate."I don’t smoke."I only drink occasionally."
"I go to bed at eleven every day and ensure that I get eight hours of sleep."
"Before going to sleep, I drink a glass of warm milk."
"After twenty minutes of assassin training every day, I take a short nap and can wake up energized every morning without any stress."My last medical examination showed no health problems."The doctor said I’m physically in good condition."
Julian blinked a few times.
The reservoir had fallen silent, and even the evening breeze seemed to have halted.
Finally, Julian rubbed the back of his head and exhaled.
"...Wait.
What are you talking about exactly?"
Queen gazed at Julian straight in the eyes.
"All I’m trying to say is that once I’ve set my heart on someone as my target, I will stop at nothing until they’re dead."
Queen’s tone was calm and collected, but the determination in her voice left no room for questions.
"If an assassination fails, it leaves me feeling dissatisfied and spiritually empty, therefore, regardless of the circumstances, I will always take you down."
As soon as Queen finished speaking, two butterfly knives materialized in her hands as if by magic.
She flicked her wrists, and the elegant twin blades began spinning gracefully in her fingers, painting beautiful silver arcs in the fading sunlight.
Like butterflies fluttering in the wind, they captivated attention with their amazing beauty and elegance while concealing a deadly and ruthless killer intent.
Her dexterous fingers did not make a single mistake as she skillfully tossed the two knives, spinning them end over end with increasing speed, creating a beautiful but deadly blur of silver in her hands.
Julian could not help but follow the mesmerizing movement of the knives with his eyes, only to lock gazes with Queen’s calm and fearless eyes.
A sigh escaped Julian’s lips as he shook his head.
"So you really don’t intend to back down, do you?"
Standing in front of a woman who was set on taking his life, Julian somehow managed a faint and mocking smile.
"I was actually hoping we could discuss some terms over a nice cup of coffee."
Queen did not respond, her lips remaining sealed, not giving any indication of her thoughts.
Instead, she took a step to the side, lowering her center of gravity slightly.
Suddenly, the entire world fell silent.
Even the evening breeze seemed to have stopped, as if the world itself was holding its breath, waiting for the next development.
The mischievous atmosphere had vanished, replaced by an oppressive and tense environment.
In this silent world, only two people remained.
Their confrontation had begun.
Then, without warning, Julian stiffened.
The relaxed and mocking smile on his face faded away, replaced by bewilderment and confusion.
His pupils constricted, and his breathing became uneven.
"Wha..t.. .?"
Before he could finish, his knees buckled underneath him, sending him sprawling on the ground, stunned and disoriented.
His arms flailed desperately for a moment before going limp, his chest rising and falling with each labored breath.
Finally, his body gave a shuddering jerk and went completely still.
