Chapter 344: Frost Against the Order

Frost gathered around Didi’s clenched seal while Hajin’s three Rings continued turning. Her accepted royal label held both knees against nullstone, yet she made no movement toward Eirwen’s servant passage.

"Didi goes next," Hajin said, keeping Aegis closed beside the pinned guard captain, "your label leaves, then Juna plus Loccy can move without making you carry them."

"Captain Roen goes before me," Didi replied, forcing her sword point away from the floor, "his escort still has five palace attendants waiting beyond that screen."

The five-Shard captain tried raising one knee beside her before the command tightened. His greater accepted rank drove proportionally heavier force through his core, returning both armored legs against the floor.

"My charge remains inside this room," Roen said, keeping one hand around his sword hilt, "the escort clears its last passage after the princess crosses."

"Your charge includes every servant placed behind your guards," she said, looking toward the five unranked attendants, "take them beyond the eastern stair while the route still exists."

Eirwen counted twenty-two breaths beneath the twelve white-gold threads entering her core. Raw green control held the servant arch open, although thin fractures had begun spreading along the nullstone around her planted bow.

Hajin crossed toward Didi through the reduced resistance around his three Rings. The Witness Avatar followed his circulation with its crowned helm while keeping every accepted rank pinned beneath one armored hand.

"Leaving first protects them faster than fighting the order from underneath it," he said, stopping outside Didi’s pressure thread, "you have three Shards locked by a law built to punish their use."

"Then I use the part already beneath the punishment," she said, opening her empty seal hand, "I will not ask Roen’s people to remain because my title makes me first through the door."

Her answer gave three Shards no additional strength against a law capable of pinning twelve. It changed where Didi intended to spend their limited movement, placing Roen’s remaining duty ahead of her own escape.

Hajin saw every pressured pathway tighten before she lifted the sword another finger. Forcing frost through those routes risked internal backlash, while leaving them passive preserved her body at the expense of the people still waiting below.

The choice left Hajin no uncertainty about what she intended, although its method remained unfinished. Didi turned her sword until its flat surface rested beside the white-gold thread entering her royal label.

She released frost inward through all three pinned Shards instead of projecting it toward the armor. Pale-blue mana crossed each pressured core, accepting the command’s weight before carrying that burden toward her sword arm.

The hierarchy reacted immediately, increasing the downward force assigned to her accepted rank. Didi’s shoulders dropped, but her sword continued rising one finger at a time beside the visible command thread.

[ Didi circulation under foreign command ]

[ Active Shards: three ]

[ Frost route: self-directed through pinned pathways ]

[ Additional royal current: unstable / unidentified ]

Aria compared the unidentified current against the gold that had answered Didi’s archive override. Their foundations overlapped, although the silver carried through her frost prevented any reliable classification from the surviving record.

Gold appeared beneath the pale-blue mana where her blood had answered the archive override. It should have followed the Crown’s purified color, but Didi’s frost drew silver through its center before either current reached the blade.

One thin silver-gold line formed along the sword from guard to point. It carried no completed prayer, fourth Shard, or named technique inside Aria’s examination.

The Witness Avatar turned from Hajin when the new frequency touched its governing law. Every rank label brightened together, recognizing a royal current attempting to contest the command from inside an accepted position.

"There," Hajin said, following the central white-gold thread through Divine Eye, "freeze the line entering the floor, and nothing beyond it."

Didi shifted the sword point across the visible junction without striking nullstone. Silver-gold frost entered one command thread, surrounding its moving script before the avatar could withdraw the connection.

The central hierarchy line froze between the armored hand plus the measured floor. White-gold labels remained above every person, but their downward pressure stopped for a single breath.

That narrow result gave Hajin a clean evacuation interval instead of a combat opening. He kept his Chain loose around the armor, preventing an attack from consuming the breath Didi had created for Roen.

[ Hierarchical command interruption ]

[ Affected thread: central kneeling instruction ]

[ Duration estimate: one breath ]

[ Stable royal technique formed: no ]

Hajin gave the opening to one person instead of crowding the narrow passage with every fighter. Captain Roen rose beneath his five Shards, crossed Eirwen’s bow, then lost his accepted rank label inside the unranked route.

"Escort moves now," he ordered, recovering his full voice beyond the arch, "lamp crew takes the eastern stair while coronation attendants remain between two guards."

The five waiting attendants entered the cleared lower passage as the other guards closed around them. Both councilors followed behind the group, leaving Roen free to take the final rear position beneath the archive key.

Roen reached the second landing before the restored law could reconnect with his former rank. He counted all five attendants between the forward guards, then ordered the archive key turned behind their complete escort.

Silver vanished from Didi’s sword before the last attendant reached the second landing. Gold followed it into the extinguished edge, leaving ordinary pale frost across the blade when the frozen command thread broke apart.

The Witness Avatar closed its hand, restoring the hierarchy through a replacement line. Didi struck both knees again while the returning force cracked frost across the floor beneath her sword.

No new Shard formed beside her shoulder after the interruption ended beneath the restored command. Her count remained three, her mana had fallen, plus the silver-gold current left no stable pattern Aria could preserve as a usable skill.

[ Didi Shard count: three / unchanged ]

[ Unstable royal current: exhausted ]

[ Repeatable circulation path: unavailable ]

Brief heat moved through Didi’s sword arm after the silver-gold current disappeared. Aria found strained pathways without a fracture, ownership mark, foreign residue, or continuing command beyond the avatar’s restored pressure.

"Seventeen breaths," Eirwen said, keeping the servant arch braced after every guard cleared it, "the attendants are beyond the command, but everyone remaining still requires a route."

Juna could stand without feeding Didi additional pressure while she remained in place. Loccy held the same position across the room, conserving her numb arms plus the three Wings still closed beneath her rank symbols.

Hajin left his fourth Ring unopened despite the Witness returning its attention toward his bloodline. Didi had purchased an evacuation breath, and spending that result upon an immediate attack would put her beneath the answer.

The armored hand moved away from the restored floor thread before pointing directly toward her. White-gold script erased the lesser designation previously written beside Didi’s three Shards.

{Subject: Princess Didi.}

{Prior hierarchy position: lesser / three Shards.}

{Contested command through royal blood: confirmed.}

{Reclassification: royal claimant.}

{Disposition: marked for removal.}

Aria isolated the reclassification from every legitimate Crown record still preserved below the chamber. The hostile law had interpreted resistance as a rival claim, granting Didi no office, succession standing, or recognized royal authority.

Didi lifted her frost-covered sword despite the extinguished silver-gold edge remaining along its ordinary steel. The Witness Avatar had measured her choice as a claim to rule, while Hajin had seen it begin as her refusal to step ahead of five servants.
