The relationship between Mia Ginger and Tong Tong was pretty good, and Daniel Davis also genuinely wanted to make friends.
And the Petal Family parents were very hospitable.
Everyone spent a pleasant two-plus hours together; you could say both hosts and guests were happy.
At eight in the evening, Koa Jackson stood up to take his leave.
Daniel Davis also got up, smiling as he said, "Then we’ll head out too. We all have work tomorrow, so we won’t bother you any longer. Uncle, Auntie, you should rest early, and thank you for having us today."
"You’re leaving already?" Mother Petal stood up, a little reluctant.
The others all smiled at her.
Although Mother Petal was reluctant, she kept in mind that tomorrow was Monday, so she didn’t insist on keeping them, just reminded them to drive carefully. Together with Denver Petal and Olivia Williams, she walked the four of them down to the steps outside the door.
Koa Jackson and Daniel Davis didn’t let them walk them any farther.
Only after they saw them go back inside did they start walking toward where the cars were parked.
Daniel Davis held Tong Tong close, talking as they walked: "Tong Tong said you two also live in Cloudy Capital, that’s quite a coincidence. I always felt uneasy about this girl living alone; this is great now—if anything comes up, we’ll have to trouble you to look after her a bit."
"No need to be so polite." Koa Jackson pressed his lips together in a faint smile.
Mia Ginger nestled in the crook of his arm, poked her head out and smiled too. "We’re classmates. If Tong Tong needs anything, she can just call me."
"This girl has a soft temperament." Daniel Davis’s tone was full of affection.
"Then you definitely can’t bully her usually." Mia Ginger said with a grin.
"I’m too busy liking her to bully her, how would I even have the time?" Daniel Davis chuckled. "That much you can absolutely rest assured about."
"Mm-hmm." Mia Ginger nodded in response.
They were talking as they walked, and in no time they’d reached the cars.
Tong Tong had come in Daniel Davis’s car. Mia Ginger had originally planned to give her a ride back, but after one look from Koa Jackson, she dropped the idea.
After saying their goodbyes, the two of them got into their cars one after the other.
Mia Ginger couldn’t help muttering, "Actually, there was no need for Lawyer Davis to make a special trip."
As Koa Jackson started the car, he said mildly, "How many days have they even been together? They’re in that glued-together stage right now, of course they need some alone time. You can’t even read that kind of situation?"
"Oh." Mia Ginger froze for a moment. "I didn’t think of that."
"Seat belt." Koa Jackson reminded her.
Mia Ginger hurriedly fastened her seat belt, leaned back in the seat and sighed. "Fine, then we’ll just mind our own business."
Koa Jackson glanced at her and smiled. "Sleepy?"
"I’m okay." As Mia Ginger spoke she let out a yawn. After they drove out of the neighborhood, she turned slightly to look at Koa Jackson’s profile and said thoughtfully, "Brother Jackson, do you think two people who don’t love each other can be together?"
"What are you trying to ask this time?" Koa Jackson didn’t even turn his head.
Mia Ginger pressed her lips together. "I’m not even sure myself. It’s weird—at our get-together on Friday, I thought Lawyer Davis was really suitable for Tong Tong. But after just now, sitting at the Petal Family place for a while, I felt like they’re not as suitable as I imagined."
"Mm." Koa Jackson’s voice was indifferent.
"You think so too?" Seeing him respond, Mia Ginger perked up, sat up straight and asked.
"That classmate of yours..." Koa Jackson thought for a moment and still couldn’t find a fitting word to describe Tong Tong. After a while, he could only change tack and say, "It’s hard to say whether they’re suitable or not. I don’t really know them."
"I feel like Tong Tong was really stiff." Mia Ginger said thoughtfully. "It was like she’d become a different person."
Koa Jackson pressed his lips together in a brief smile and said lightly, "Why think so much? If you’re sleepy, recline the seat and take a nap. It’ll still be a while before we get home."
