Chapter 1023 - 1050: Deliberately Targeted (4)

Reagon Chapman also had such a day, all because of a man?

Just thinking about it makes one feel depressed.

Reagon Chapman also picked up the car and drove back with an indifferent expression.

——

At ten o’clock at night, Mia Ginger got home.

She felt both tired and hungry.

In fact, since one in the afternoon, she’d only had a glass of water.

Thinking of Reagon Chapman, she couldn’t help but feel upset again.

Mia yawned as she walked inside, and just as she entered the hall, the Chancellor sprang out from within, landing in her arms.

"Good boy." Mia raised her hand and rubbed its head. She stood up with a sigh of relief and locked eyes with someone who stood up from the sofa. In surprise, she said, "Tohng Toahng?"

"Yes, you’re back?" Tohng Toahng smiled softly at her.

Mia looked at her and only then noticed the injury on her forehead, becoming even more perplexed.

She took a step closer and asked, "What happened to you?"

After speaking, she glanced around, "Where are Brother Jackson and Aunt Lee?"

"Dr. Jackson just got a call; it seemed to be about an operation, so he probably went to the room. Aunt Lee went to bed after bringing your brother, and Uncle Lewis was just here."

"Oh." Mia nodded and asked again, "What happened to your forehead?"

Tohng Toahng pressed her lips together, still looking a bit shaken.

Mia asked softly, "Did something happen?"

"Yes." Tohng Toahng nodded. "It was just after work this afternoon. I worked a bit late today and caught a ride back. Just as it got dark, a few men cornered me at the entrance of the neighborhood and insisted I get in their car. Fortunately, Dr. Jackson was passing by and helped me."

Though Tohng Toahng explained it simply, Mia somewhat understood and mused, "You got hurt during the scuffle?"

"I didn’t dare go home." Tohng Toahng looked at her and said, "You know, my parents are really protective of me. If I even get a scratch on my finger, the housekeeper tells them. I don’t want them to worry, so I..."

Tohng Toahng asked her, "Can I stay at your place for a night?"

Mia nodded, "Sure, you’ve told Brother Jackson, right?"

"Yes," Tohng Toahng said softly. "We didn’t talk much; he’s been busy on work calls since he got back. Uncle Lewis was here, too, so I waited for you to come back first."

"Have you had dinner?"

"Not really hungry." Tohng Toahng forced a smile, visibly downcast.

Mia patted her arm, "It’s okay, just relax and stay over for a night. Let’s eat first, I’m starving."

"Why are you back so late?"

"Don’t mention it. It’s a long story."

Tohng Toahng couldn’t help but smile, "This industry’s pace is really fast. I don’t like it very much either."

"Oh?" Mia had already put down her bag, walking with her towards the dining room. Hearing what she said, she was surprised and laughed, "Don’t like it? I thought you were quite fit for the children’s channel. Didn’t you really like kids?"

"I do like kids." Tohng Toahng smiled bitterly, "But I’m not a children’s channel host. I’m just an intern behind the scenes, mainly doing odd jobs every day. It’s not what you imagined."

Mia was silent for a moment.

She knew Tohng Toahng didn’t choose this major out of interest, but because of Camden River.

Now that she and Camden River weren’t working together, she’s essentially pursuing a field she has no interest in.

Of course, she feels powerless.

Mia sighed and asked softly, "So what are you planning to do?"

Tohng Toahng thought for a moment, and with a serious face, said, "Once the internship ends, I probably won’t continue this. If I decide to stay in Cloud Capital, I want to apply for something related to policing, or at least an administrative position. After thinking about it, I like that kind of work environment. The television station is too complicated; I really dislike it."

"Police?" Mia laughed and said, "You’d actually suit that quite well."

"Yes, let’s see how it goes. For now, I’ll finish the internship first." Tohng Toahng also laughed.

As they chatted, they reached the dining room.

Aunt Lee had just come out and brought out the saved dinner for Mia.

It was already quite late, and even though she was hungry, Mia couldn’t eat much. She ate a little with Tohng Toahng, set her up with a place to stay, and then went back to her room.

Koa Jackson wasn’t there.

Mia went to the study to look for him and found him on the phone, looking serious, as if still discussing work matters.

Not wanting to disturb him, Mia made a gesture and then went to the bedroom to take a shower.

The warm water washed away the day’s fatigue, and by the time she had showered and wrapped herself in a towel, it was past midnight.

Koa Jackson was already leaning against the headboard.

Seeing her come out, he put down the medical dictionary he was holding and asked her, "What happened today?"

Mia kicked off her slippers and climbed into bed, wrapping her arms around his neck through the quilt. "I’m so tired and don’t want to talk about it. I couldn’t explain it in a few words anyway. What about you? You seemed busy too?"

"Yes, there’s a consultation meeting tomorrow afternoon."

"Oh." Mia nodded, lifted the quilt, laid on his chest, and hugged him tightly, jokingly, "Then I’ll give you some strength."

Koa Jackson chuckled, "Shouldn’t I be saying that? Are you getting used to it?"

"It’s okay." Mia thought about Reagon Chapman’s cold face and didn’t want to spoil her mood by mentioning it, so she smiled and said, "The team leader seemed to think my writing skills were pretty good. Just before clocking out, they asked for some help, and before I knew it, it was late."

After speaking, she stuck out her tongue playfully.

Koa Jackson smiled, pinched her nose gently, and said, "As long as you’re fine. We have to get up early tomorrow, so let’s sleep."
